It would surprise absolutely no one who knew her that Talia had spent the majority of her Halloween weekend indulging in the movie theatre’s horror movie marathon; her first in Eureka, but certainly not the first time she’d done something similar. Still, in the months since she’d moved to town, the Theatre had become something of a safe haven for her, a place to go, something to do, that didn’t risk running into the man she’d yet to actually meet. After all, everyone who went to the movies was there to watch the screen, not chat to other patrons, though it was still more sociable than watching those same movies alone in your apartment. That was the theory, anyway, but coming away from the concessions stand, Talia saw something flutter to the ground, away from the party ahead of her. She glanced down, then up, then down again, decision made. She quickly grabbed what had fallen, and cleared her throat. “Excuse me, sorry, I—” Talia broke off, holding up the fallen object. “I think this is yours.”

As much time Melisa spent on social media making sure that her posts were up to date, her emails were taken care of and her texts were sent, during Halloween time, she loved to watch scary movies. While she didn’t make it a secret, she also didn’t really mention it when talking with friends and with her time being here in Eureka, she always made time to go to the Theatre for scary movies during the town Halloween event. As she sipped on her drink that she bought before the movie, she never realized that her bracelet had slipped off until someone brought it to her attention a moment later. Turning around, she spotted a woman with her bracelet in hand and sighed of relief. “Thank you so much for finding it,” she said, taking the bracelet and putting it safe into her pocket so it wouldn’t escape her anymore.

“That’s all a part of the healing process, unfortunately. Horrendous, but it’ll help you move forward with some more peace.” She’d been through it herself. Amelia was sure she met her soulmate back in New York City. They were together for three years, but when things went south with her job there, he relinquished all support, putting his networking and connections above her. The Arquette was devastate, but better now than later. Since then, she’d merely focused on herself, her move back to Eureka, and her family. “I don’t think he’ll hate you forever…he just needs to process the hurt in his own time.” So she’d hope. “Yeah, you’re right,” Melisa said with a sigh, glancing away from her friend as the flashbacks from that night were flooding her head. It was only a matter of time that Amelia spoke up again, making the model focus on her rather than the fight between herself and Clayton. “His own time being forever,” she said with no other thought and while she knew that he would eventually turn a corner in his own time, she felt like it was going to be years until then. When Amelia started talking about how she had been, Melisa found herself smiling a little bit more than before. “Pretty boring? Sounds like you’ve been pretty busy to me,” she said with a soft chuckle before raising her glass to her lips to take another sip before letting a soft laugh escape her lips. “As hot of a couple we would be, I’ve actually been kind of developing feelings for one of my good friends and I don’t exactly know how to feel about it quite yet,” she admitted, thinking about Cooper and the night they hooked up. “I know for a fact that you’ll find someone great sometime soon, Mills. You’re a pretty amazing person.”

Weston nodded when Melisa mentioned she had been keeping busy with work lately— if anyone could relate to that more, it would be him. He had always been driven and ambitious, but during the last few months of his mother’s hospital treatment, he had gone off track and made a few bad choices. Melisa was a stark reminder of those poor decisions, but she was also a reminder that he used to have friends who cared about his well being, too. All he could do was hope that they both had matured and moved on from the past. “Right, you’re a big time model now, huh. Kendall Jenner’s got nothin’ on you,” He joked with a chuckle and a polite smile. “I’ve been doing really good. I might not have won the mayoral campaign but city council president ain’t too bad,” Once the bartender came around to bring him his card and receipt, Weston figured it’d be rude to run off now, especially after running into an old friend. “Alright, let me buy your next drink — and maybe apologize for never reaching out after two years,” After the drama between themselves and Clayton, Weston had sort of imploded on himself and ignored all of her friendships and personal obligations, instead focusing on work, which meant he and Melisa never did get to talk about things or get closure. However, things were different now and he really wanted her to know it wasn’t personal back then, given everything going on with his mother and her eventual passing, he hadn’t been the best version of himself.

While this was talk with Weston was bringing back all of the fun memories between them, Melisa needed to remind herself that she was moving on from the past and going towards a better, brighter future that had less drama in her life. Chuckling to his words, she nodded with a smirk to his Kendall Jenner comment. “I’m making my way towards Kendall Jenner status that’s for sure,” she said, flipping her hair back over her shoulder. Her smirk then turned into a smile as she listened to him talk about himself and how he had been doing these past couple of years. “I’m glad you’re doing well, really, I am,” she said genuinely, wanting to have a somewhat good connection with Weston. “Plus, we all know that you’ll be mayor in no time,” she added, nudging him with her shoulder gently. When he apologized, she glanced away from him and bit on her lower lip. All she could think about was constantly apologizing to Clayton from their recent talk. “You don’t need to apologize, Weston. Reaching out is a two-way street, I could’ve reached out too and I chose not to,” she explained with a shrug. “I’m sorry too.”

Melisa Azra Demir was born and raised Los Angeles, California and to her parents that loved her unconditionally. While being an only child brought her a lot of joy, she also felt alone at times as she had no one to play with when her parents were both working. She got along great with her nanny, but that wasn’t enough for her. While her parents loved her very much, she was taught to keep her head down in the books and become the best doctor she could be. Her father was a high class neurosurgeon and while he supported everything she wanted to do, being the best doctor she could be was what really was going to make him proud. All she wanted to do was make him proud so once she got older and reached high school, she still kept her head down in the books and was pretty reserved. Sure, she had some friends and loved flirting with boys, but she needed to love her studies more so she could be the best doctor.

It was her senior year of high school and Melisa had straight A’s and on her way to becoming a doctor. As much as she wanted to make her parents proud, she realizes that she was a kind of boring person. It was like a light switched in her head and she knew that this wasn’t the life for her. After that night, she started drinking alcohol, trying drugs, hooking up with guys and becoming more of a rebel and she loved it. She was having way more fun and while doing all of this, she was still an angel at home towards her parents and they had no idea about her rebellious side. Well, that was until she graduated high school and told her parents that she didn’t want to be a doctor at all and wanted to live her own life how she wanted to. To be honest, she had no idea what she wanted to do but at least she was going to be off to college and figuring that out.

Melisa got accepted and started her undergrad at University of California, Los Angeles. Going to UCLA was amazing and everything that she wanted. She was in a sorority, she slept around, went to all of the parties she could and loved not being under her parents roof anymore. She would couch surf for the summers, staying with friends just so she didn’t have to stay at home, though she did visit for holidays and visited some weekends if she wanted to. By the time she was a junior in college, she was out with friends during the day when she was offered a modeling gig and knowing how gorgeous she was already with a lot of confidence, she said yes. Sure, Melisa knew that she had a big ego, but she couldn’t turn this kind of a job away. Getting her bachelors in communications, she continued her job as a model and started to become known in the area.

When Melisa was twenty-three, she had been all over the country for photoshoots, she had walked many runways, been introduced to fashion designers and was loving her life becoming a known model. Though her parents weren’t the proudest of her for new career path, she was loving her life and that was all that mattered. Two years passed, now twenty-five and found stumbling across Eureka, California. She had a photoshoot in the city and while she was having her fun doing that, she decided to be rebellious and get a tattoo. She had no idea that her life would change when she walked into that tattoo parlor. She had no idea that she would be falling in love with the man who gave her the little tattoo on her hip. Clayton Baker, it was like love at first sight. Even when her photoshoots were done in Eureka, she decided to stay and get to know this sexy, amazing, Clayton Baker. Three years fly by and the two were living their best lives together. While she lived with him in downtown Eureka, she was still able to travel for other photoshoots and fashion shows. She had become really close friends with Clayton’s best friend, Weston though she didn’t realize how close they really had become.

Melisa was spending the evening with Weston sharing a few glasses of wine when she realized that she had developed some feelings towards him. It was obvious at the two were attracted to one another but she didn’t think about that at the time she was with Clayton. A bottle goes down and then the two were kissing, making out and they ended up sleeping together. It was terrifying when Clayton found out and while it ruined Melisa and broke her heart, she realized that she needed to fix herself. After their breakup and moving out, Melisa found a place downtown to live at. Two years have passed and Melisa has thrown herself more into her modeling career; traveling more, meeting celebrities and collaborating and she was having the time of her life. Now having a little break and spending more time in Eureka, she is starting to move on from Clayton and grow and continue to live her life to the fullest.

The moment Cooper laid eyes on her he found Melisa attractive. It wasn’t just her looks that he like, as cliché as it sounded it was her personality. She knew how to make him laugh, she knew how to make him smile and she knew how to knock down his walls. This was all new for him, and as scared as he was he was more excited. It had been a while since Cooper had done this. Sure he did the one night stands, but for some reason they still always left him feeling empty. With Melisa though, he sometimes made her fell full. She understood where Melisa was coming from, but could sympathize with the hurt Clayton had experienced too. “I know it’s a lame ass saying, but I truly do believe everything happens for a reason and what needs to workout will in its own time.”

After the conversation, more like fight she had with Clayton, Melisa needed a good cry and then a girls night out with one of her favorite friends, Amelia. Weston had just finished up drinks with a few of his fellow colleagues at the taproom –– admittedly not his favorite choice but as always, Weston lived to put the desires of others ahead of his own, and his friends had been fans of sours and ciders and therefore dictated the meeting place. He was waiting for his credit card from the waitress after paying for the round of drinks when a familiar voice seemed to ring through his ears. It had been a very long time since he had seen Melisa and it was safe to say she had throw him for a surprise. “Melisa — it’s been a while. And nah, still not much of a cider guy but I’ve always been a pleasing other’s kind of guy,” He hadn’t heard much about what she was up to nor did he care to dig around since his focus the last few years had been on building his career and repairing his friendship — both of which he had been fairly successful at. Seeing Melisa again meant Clayton would eventually run into her as well, and that’s what Weston was really worried about. Clayton wasn’t always the best at expressing his emotions, but he knew seeing the girl who broke his heart would be leaving him feeling some type of way, so Weston was already preparing to deal with that when it would inevitably come. “So how’ve you been the last few years?” He asked, mostly to be polite even though there was suddenly a lot running through his mind since as much as he used to appreciate and adore his friendship with Melisa, things changed and he wasn’t quite sure if they could ever go back to how they used to be.

While Melisa assumed that their connection wasn’t going to be as adoring and strong as it was in the past, they could at least remain civil with each other unlike her and Clayton. She chuckled to his words and as much as she wanted to make a dirty joke about him being a pleasing other’s kind of guy, she kept her thoughts clean...for now. It didn’t come as a shock that Weston was surprised to see her though she hoped she was a good surprise. “I can understand that very well,” she said with a nod before ordering herself a drink and leaning back in her chair. When he asked how she had been the past few years, she gave him a small smile. “I’ve been digging in deep with work and it’s been amazing to say the least. I’m loving my life as a well known model and been traveling all around for photoshoots and advertising,” she told him with more of a smile now. “Been in and out of Eureka for a while but I don’t have any big fashion shows coming up quite yet so I’ll be sticking around for a while,” she added before giving a nod of thanks to the bartender before taking a sip of her drink. “What about you, Weston? Clayton stared at the woman in front of him and as much as he would have loved to have no expression come over his features when she confessed as to why she actually slept with Weston, the male flinched at her words. Knowing the flinch was exposing the way her words had took him back. Maybe he had been expecting what Weston had told him, some emotional excuse that would explain why the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with had decided to throw away everything they had and the last thing he really imagined her saying to him was that she had sex with his best friend because she was attracted to him. “So… Not only did you ruin our relationship but you ruined my friendship because you wanted to know what it was like?” He laughed bitterly as he shook his head, parting his lips but nothing else would leave his mouth. “You’re something fuckin’ else, Melisa.”

Melisa’s heart was pounding hard in her chest and even though she wanted to throw up and cry all at the same time, she stood her ground and kept a straight face. Seeing Clayton flinch to her words was surprising though she didn’t react, she just kept her eyes on his. She said all that she needed to say and she told him the truth, that was the biggest part. “Well, now you know the real reasons and we can go on with our lives,” she said, more like she could go home with her groceries and cry this all out. “Goodbye, Clayton.” Turning around, she began to walk away and let a tear fall down her cheek as she did so.

Clayton glanced around to look at the people staring in their direction, his tongue brushing along his lower lip as he turned his head to look away from the woman in front of her. “Then what’s the point in this conversation?” He asked, letting his gaze move back towards her. He thought about all of the promises the two of them made together and the engagement ring that burned a hole in his sock drawer even after all these two years. He scrunched up his nose as he tilted his head down to look at the sidewalk. “If this was what you wanted to talk about… You should have just left me alone, Melisa.” There was no reason to reopen the wounds when she couldn’t answer the simple questions he had. It was why he never asked them to begin with.

“Fuck, Clayton...” Melisa shook her head and ran her fingers through her hair more out of a nervous habit as she knew that she was going to explode. “Do you really want to know the connection I had with Weston? Do you really want to know that I cheated on you because of the attraction I had towards your best friend? There’s nothing else to say other than I fucked up and I wish my whole heart could’ve been yours. I wish I could take back what I did but I can’t,” she said, her eyes not leaving his and she could’ve give a single fuck about other people listening in. Eureka already knew their past so it wasn’t news. “You can hate me forever and while we both keep hating me, just know that I’ll never forgive myself.”

Clayton scoffed with a bitter laugh to follow as his hand left his pocket and raised up towards his face, brushing his fingers along his jaw. “Then what did you want?” He asked, keeping his eyes on the woman in front of him even though looking at her was killing him. For the last two years he had kept every single woman who attempted to get close to him at arms distance and the last woman who almost broke through the wall was someone he pushed away as hard and quick as he could, a woman who was capable of helping him more on from Melisa yet he still found a way to ruin it like everything else that touched him. “You made a choice that night. You chose to sleep with my best friend and ruin what we had. I don’t know why you think that’s something I can easily forget because it’s been two years.”

“I don’t know what the fuck I wanted, Clayton! I don’t know what was going through my head that night and as much as I could change everything that I did..” Melisa shut her mouth as she realized how fired up she was getting and she closed her eyes and took a breath to calm herself down. “There’s no excuse about what I did and there’s no reason for me to keep standing here to try and explain everything when I know that it can’t be changed,” she said softly, feeling tears wanting to well up in her eyes but didn’t allow them to. Not yet. Running her fingers through her dark hair, she shrugged to his words. Fuck...this was killing her. “And you made the right choice by leaving. You deserve someone that will give you the world and I’m sorry I couldn’t be that for you,” she said before looking away and taking another breath before looking back into his eyes that she used to adore for so long. “I know that you don’t believe me or care at all but I hope you have a good life and I wish you the best.”

All the bitter conversations between him and Weston at the beginning of the year and somehow all that pain he had worked on getting past was flooding right back in. “I don’t… get it, Melisa. I’ll never get it.” He let his eyes focus on her. “I just don’t want you in my life and nothing you say or do will change any of that.”

Opening up this conversation probably wasn’t the best right now but it’s better now than never. Taking a deep breath trying to calm her heart rate, she kept her eyes on his and tried to ignore the pain she felt in her chest. She was always going to feel this pain no matter what. All of the guilt still carried with her. “I never wanted to be with him, Clayton,” she quickly said though she wanted to explain. While he didn’t give a shit about what she said right now, she still wanted to explain. “I should’ve stopped what was happening, I should’ve been better for you and I’ll always be sorry. I’ll always hate that part of myself for doing that to you,” she said, not wanting to say much more because there wasn’t much more to say. Nodding to his words, she looked down at the ground for a moment before meeting his gaze again. “I get it, I understand.” While all of this happened years ago, she still wanted to cry. It still hurt like hell.
