He returned from the bathroom to see that she’d done the opposite of what he told her to do. He rolled his eyes; it was nothing new. Regardless of how frustrated she always made him, he was actually kind of proud of her in a way. Her stubbornness was one of the traits he fell in love with first anyway- he loved a good challenge.
“You’re just making this harder for yourself.” From his vantage point he spotted the pill under the far dresser. If he could roll his eyes any further, they’d be back inside his head. Whatever, he was trying to make it a little better for her but if that’s how she was gonna be..
“Aright, let’s see,” he said softly. He made his way to the side of the bed. His fingers felt the sides of her nose to see which parts he needed to adjust. He held the sides of her head firmly and against the pillow.
“3, 2, 1..” He gave her a countdown to brace for the pain. His thumbs pushed back on her nose in opposite directions, crunching the material back into place with a grotesque sound. This would be so much easier if she just regenerated like he did.
The chunk that she bit out of his hand was already grown over but her nose was still broken in one spot.
“One more time…”
In the back of her mind, she’d always known that he’d splurged on real handcuffs, but she had chosen to ignore it. When she pulled on them, they had the right amount of give - and she had the wrong amount of tools. She knew how to get out of them. The mental imagine of the bobbi pins in his bathroom was more torture than the handcuffs themselves.
Before he came back, she looked around for something, anything, but it was short lived. He was already back and lecturing her and holding her face tight to fix what she assumed was a really fucked up nose.
She didn’t move. She didn’t yell. She didn’t even whimper. The only sign of pain that she emitted was the soft fist she formed and the shaky breath after he finished the first adjustment. Her brain was focused.
Open door, six windows, knives in the kitchen, weapons in the bedside table. Thirty-four cameras total, all with sound, all sent to her flat, most likely not been looked into yet. Blunt objects at every turn. Twenty-four steps to the door, eight to the first window, twelve to the second, ten to the third, eight to the fourth, eighteen to the third, two to the second and first. Reduce the steps by one if running. Casualty permitted–
Head swiveled in his direction as if she wasn’t expecting him to fix it again. But she straightened her head, obediently.
He readjusted his fingers in the opposite direction, her nose looking just nearly normal now.
“Here we go..”
He pushed quickly and a softer, but equally disgusting, grinding sound came from her face.
“Alright now, that’s better,” he said, holding her chin in his bitten hand, gently pointing her face up to his as he inspected his handiwork. He moved her face to one side, then the other, looking at her nose from both sides. Aside from the crusted blood coating her upper lip, it looked as if nothing happened.
“Be careful now babe.” He stood up, his massive hand wrapping around her upper arm to pull her up to a sitting position. Mello stood straight, looked at her for a moment, nodded and walked off to the attached bathroom. Time to get rid of anything she can use to escape because he already knew she was an expert at it. Not necessary for him to risk anything at this point.
“Okay,” he mumbled under his breath. He pulled open all of the drawers and one by one, emptied their entire contents into the garbage can. Bobbi pins, hair ties, brushes, toothpaste and toothbrushes, all into the can.
“I’m keeping this in the other room so you can’t go anywhere.” He narrowed his eyes at her like he expected her to do something about it.
But she couldn’t. She was cuffed to the bed. He laughed and went to put the things in the other room, leaving her handcuffed and locking the door behind himself.

those who escape hell, however, never talk about it & nothing much bothers them after that.

He let go of her face but not without ‘accidentally’ bumping her nose with the side of his palm. He watched her face for a few seconds before reaching for the damp washcloth. He wiped her nose again, blotting up the new blood that had ran. Mello picked up the ice pack and rested it on the bridge of her nose.
“Don’t move so much, keep the ice there. Maybe it’ll numb it for you when I fix it.” He mumbled, matter-of-factly.
“Give it a few minutes and I’ll fix it for you. May need some bandages to keep it in place, let me see if I have any.” At this point he wasn’t really talking to anyone in particular, just talking to fill the silence. He made his way to the bathroom to look for some dressings.
It was easy with her barrage of military and security training to withstand the amount of pain that he was giving her. The little bump and the ice pack didn’t bother her - she didn’t do much else besides sit there, jaw wired shut with tension, under-tongue dry. He’d find it difficult to break her. But she knew she was small and weaker than a normal person. By now, she should have eaten and taken her medication. She would obey him due to her lack of options.
It wasn’t the first time she’d had a bone set, however.
After he left, she swallowed what blood and spit she had left in her mouth and tilted her head so that the ice pack fell off of her face. Making sure the taste of blood was mostly gone, she spit the pill as far as she could, off the bed. “Amateur.”
He returned from the bathroom to see that she'd done the opposite of what he told her to do. He rolled his eyes; it was nothing new. “What the fuck!” He pulled his hand from her teeth, leaving a sizable chuck of it left behind between her teeth. No matter, it immediately started to patch itself, slowly growing over the spot she ripped it away.
“You little bitch.” He grabbed the pill from the sheets where it fell, pinched her cheeks painfully open with the other hand and dropped it into her mouth. He held her mouth open with one hand, poured water into her mouth and shut it before she had any idea of spitting it back out. He held her mouth shut tightly and held her head back. He smirked to himself and pinched her nose closed tightly. Tighter than he had to, just to cause her more pain. He may have twisted it just a bit too.
“I’m gonna hold your mouth just like this until you swallow that pill. You don’t swallow it, you’ll faint and aspirate the water and the pill. You’ll die and you won’t be my problem anymore. Be a good girl and just swallow it.” Even if she drank the water but not the pill, he was still going to reset her nose. Again, up to her.
Meat was in her mouth. More blood, his blood. She didn’t want to swallow it, so she spit it out - only to be met with his hand.
He forced the pill in her mouth so hard that she felt it scrape against her top and bottom teeth. She tasted it and preferred the blood. Oh, his words confirmed her beliefs. The bite hadn’t been an experiment, but it might has well have been– how easy would it have been for him to simply back away and leave her alone, or explain that he was only trying to help her. Instead, he grabbed her. Whimpers rumbled just barely under his hand.
Finally, the mist in her eyes forced itself out and the tears slid down to rest on his pinky. But underneath, he had been right to assume - she swallowed the water and hid the pill under her tongue. Soon after, her breathing slowed.
‘Good girl’, she’d show him.

He grabbed her chin with his hand, but gently, and turned her head towards him.
“Just lemme clean it,” he said softly, running the towel along the edges of her nostrils and her top lip. He watched her face as he cleaned the blood from it’s surface. He could feel her hatred for him now.
He set the damp towel, now stained bright red with fresh blood, beside her on the bed and wandered himself into the kitchen. He pulled an ice pack from the freezer door, bent it to get it more flexible, and wrapped it around a fresh dish towel. Mello rummaged through his cabinet and finally found something that would be helpful. He poured her a glass of water and walked back into the bedroom.
“I need you to sit up. I know you can’t by yourself so here, I’m gonna help you.” He leaned down, bear hugged her, and lifted her up to a sitting position. Mello fluffed a pillow and put it behind her back for a little more comfort.
“I brought you a painkiller. You have to take it because I’m going to reset your nose. If you decide not to take it, that’s your decision. But I’m still going to reset your nose.” He held out his hand with the small hydrocodone in the center of his palm, waiting for her decision.
By the time he returned, her nose had already brought forth blood, spilling down her nose and mouth and neck again. Too much had pooled in her mouth by now - she felt nauseous. And she remembered reading in uni that one could swallow a pint of blood before their body forced them to vomit. She had been there before. The ice pack had been pressed to her body before, too. It wasn’t unfamiliar at all. Whether it was her jaw or an after-sex ritual, she knew that ice pack. It practically belonged to her.
And when he hugged her, she felt anger.
Maybe it was normal that his words didn’t register in her head. It didn’t matter at all what he was saying because it was meaningless. She assumed that everything in the past he’d said was bullshit. Her mind reeled back around again. What was he? He never told her. Liar.
Watery blue eyes circled down to his palm. A pill. She hadn’t heard him. Her fatigue and anger were too thick. But her hands were tied, so when she leaned forward, right before her lips took the pill, it was reflexive that her teeth sank harshly into the side of his hand until blood squirted into her mouth and she knew there was no fucking letting go.
“What the fuck!” He pulled his hand from her teeth, leaving a sizable chuck of it left behind between her teeth. No matter, it immediately started to patch itself, slowly growing over the spot she ripped it away.

He scrunched his nose at the sight of her skirt riding. He pulled down just to make her a little more decent looking. You know… other than her face covered in blood. Right, about that.
Mello wandered into the master bath attached to his room and ran a washcloth under hot water. His mind was wandering as the water flowed over his fingers. He got lost in his thoughts for a moment. Thinking of what he’d just done and how he could fix it. He couldn’t but he’d try. He didn’t know what to do at this point. If only she’d have given him another chance, it wouldn’t have gotten this bad.
His mind came back when he realized how hot the water had gotten against his skin. He pulled the cloth from the stream, closed the spout, and wrung out the excess water. He pulled an extra dry towel from the rack and headed back to the bed.
Mello sat on the bed beside her and began to wipe her face with the warm cloth.
“I didn’t mean to–” he mumbled, dabbing at her slightly crooked nose.
She felt the hem of her skirt move and it scared her. Just for a moment, it really did make her nervous. But he pulled it down - what kind of logic was that? He’d inadvertently beat her, tie her up, choke her, make her bloody… she wasn’t sure where his cap was. Where it ended.
While he was gone, she did nothing. Her energy was fading. As her eyes closed, she wonder how much blood would be caked to her face when she woke up.
In her head, she fought. He blamed her, didn’t he? He blamed her for his own violence. Her broken nose had to be a result of her choices, not his. So when he came in to wipe her face, it was only natural that she flinched away. Energy came back to her so suddenly, crawling up her toes to flood into her neck so that she could swivel away from him. Her chest rose and fell, as if it took the wind out of her .
He grabbed her chin with his hand, but gently, and turned her head towards him.

It was a surprise to him, the pain in his groin. One second she was calm and the next she had hit him in the nuts. It fucking hurt. He groaned and his hands went between his legs, applying pressure to try to stop the hurt but through his suffering, he saw her scramble to her feet and try to run for it.
He reached out with one of his hands and grabbed at her ankle, yanking her back to him and causing her to fall face first to the floor. He heard a loud crack and spotted blood pouring out of her nose. He didn’t care. The pain in his crotch and his anger was clouding his kindness once again, like always.
“Nope,” he said, finitely. “You’re not going anywhere now for sure.” He winced the pain away and stood up, moving his hand quickly from her ankle to her wrists and dragged her over to his night stand. He rummaged around in the drawer and he pulled out shiny handcuffs that he bought more for sex but they would do; he splurged on the real ones anyway.
He cuffed her hands together, gathered her up and threw her on the bed, wasting no time in tying her legs together too. He wasn’t gonna trust that she couldn’t get out of this so for extra safe measure, he taped her knees together too. Helped that he was a kinky fuck because this was all at his immediate disposal.
For a moment, she thought she had it. Her legs were carrying her despite the dizziness from the trip there. and the door was in her sight - wide open and bright day ahead. She could feel the air on her face that wasn’t central.
When her face hit the floor, she felt her nose and teeth crack. Blood filled her nose and mouth. For a moment, she couldn’t see. She even thought that her tooth had cracked - no. It was just her nose, truly broken, spilling blood on the floor and into her mouth, down her neck. She was a sight of red and black and white, quite different from the flowery image that he wanted her to be.
A trail of blood led from the kitchen to his bedroom, pooling at the nightstand where she sat there, ears ringing, once again incapacitated. She spat, unwittingly, next to the bed. This was the person she fell in love with. Now, he was the cause of blood loss - and it had nothing to do with her heart.
“Please, please,” clouded with blood.
As he tied her to the bed and her skirt rose to her midsection, she leaned her head back, as if it would stop the bleeding. If anything, she choked for a moment, and her thin legs begged to be freed, struggling against the tape.
He scrunched his nose at the sight of her skirt riding. He pulled down just to make her a little more decent looking. You know... other than her face covered in blood. Right, about that.

@mellogeorge starter call.
“Know anyplace open at this hour that serves half decent coffee? Or at least not poisonous?” The insomniac ran his hands over his face, feeling the heated sting from eyes that hadn’t spent enough time closed in nearly seventy-two hours. “—Hell… even if it is poison.”
He snorted at the comment the other made and nodded his head. "You know, I do actually know a place, it should be down the road.." He motioned his hand for the man to follow him. "Do you mind if I join you?"

He looked down at her, pained that she was avoiding his eyes. He was sure, in his heart of hearts, that this time he would honestly try to change for her. He loved her deeply, and he had since they started dating. It was a strange feeling to.. actually feel anything for another person since his entire life he’d been indifferent to anyone else.
He lived a painful childhood which definitely contributed to his myriad of psychological problems. His parents treated him like a freak because that’s what he was to them. They didn’t exactly know what he was so they condemned his very existence. As Mello grew older, he started to develop sociopathic tendencies like torturing the neighborhood pets until he eventually lit them on fire which made his parents push him away even further. It was hard for him to acknowledge any flaws within his own psyche because to him, it was normal. Only when ever getting close to anyone ever did they bring it up to him how crazy he’d be acting.
He heard her words and he figured she was just meaning let her hands go, so he did.
“Kori, I swear. Please. I don’t recognize it in myself, I don’t. I can’t help myself with something I can’t see.” He was talking to the floor physically, but couldn’t actually look at her when admitting anything like this.
He’d never discussed his past with her.
When they were together, it didn’t matter. When they were next to each other, watching Netflix, eating, messing the sheets, smoking - it didn’t matter. The two of them had potential to build something together, in her mind, and it hadn’t gotten far enough in the relationship to discuss the seriousness of what their pasts had been. Hers hadn’t exactly been a walk in the park, either, but his, the past she didn’t know, was riddled with reasons.
She didn’t expect him to actually let her hands go. He was just naive, she guessed. It was the only explanation. But she took the opportunity - she was slow at first, slipping her wrists away from each other but still on his lap, flexing her hands. His words were pleading. Like a child. Why hadn’t she seen these red flags before? Why hadn’t she noticed? She, of all people. Of all people.
Her arm launched and fist connected with his crotch, bony white knuckles twisting harshly into his groin. At the same time, her feet were willing her to move with every bit of strength they had. She was trying to run. The door was still open. She could do it - she could go. She had to yell. Tell someone, anyone–
–I don’t think I can do this anymore.
It was a surprise to him, the pain in his groin. One second she was calm and the next she had hit him in the nuts. It fucking hurt. He groaned and his hands went between his legs, applying pressure to try to stop the hurt but through his suffering, he saw her scramble to her feet and try to run for it.

He got off of her chest but pulled her so her head was in his lap as he leaned against the back of his bedroom door. He held both of her tiny wrists with one of his hands and stroked her hair with the other.
“I kn–” he swallowed the lump in his throat. “I know, I’m sorry. Kori, I really didn’t mean to. I know this isn’t right. I’ll get some help, I’ll go to therapy or something or whatever. I can make it right. I promise I can.”
He ran his fingers through her fine blonde hair, remembering the great times they had with each other in the beginning and how he wished he could reverse the time to back then and prevent himself from ever hitting her in the first place. He wanted to make things right but the last time they put him on medications that gave him the emotional capacity of a plank of wood. He didn’t want that again but maybe if it would keep her around, he would.
Her vision was beginning to focus again. As she looked at the ceiling, the only thing in view that didn’t seem to want to hurt her, her instincts began to focus as well. How did she get there? What was he? The door was still open. Her purse was gone. Her gun was gone. He had her hands and they were strong. She knew from the many times they’d fucked that there was no way to get out of his grip.
It was almost funny to her how he spoke lovingly to her. Promised to fix it. And yet… he held her hands, forbidding her to leave, manipulating her. When her hands shifted just a bit at the thought, he had moved her head, and she felt her hair tug just a bit at the strange positioning of the two of them. She looked up, and this time, she was firm. As if she hadn’t heard a word he said.
“Let me go.”
He looked down at her, pained that she was avoiding his eyes. He was sure, in his heart of hearts, that this time he would honestly try to change for her.
