Much as I wouldโve been thrilled to vote for Bernie (and did in the primaries), please remember that if you think voting for another candidate in the 2020 election is โmaking your voice heardโ or โnot settling for the lesser of two evils,โ you are fooling yourself.
No third-party candidate is going to have an actual viable shot to win the 2020 presidential election. They didnโt have a shot in 2016 either, no matter what people like to tell themselves. And that dissension among liberal and Democratic voters is exactly why we lost. (That and the 20-year smear campaign and the Russian bots, but I digress.)
Republicans and conservatives will vote along party lines come hell or high water. Theyโve been conditioned to do it and theyโll continue to do it. There is no division and no thought of voting for someone other than the Republican candidate.
So yes, a vote for someone other than Trumpโs opponent is essentially a vote for Trump. Because itโs one less vote for a candidate who actually stands a nationwide chance of preventing his re-election.
This same bullshit happened in 2000, and we WARNED people in 2016, but folks didnโt listen. We cannot afford to make the same mistake two terms in a row.
Yes, Biden is a piece of shit too. But heโs a piece of shit that stands a chance of listening to the populace and actually has some goddamn political experience, rather than an unhinged megalomaniacal bigot who acts with impunity, ignores science and human rights (when he isnโt shitting on them), and refuses to be counseled or advised by anyone who isnโt a syncophantic enabler.
Itโs going to be Biden or Trump this November. Thatโs just the way it is. I donโt like it and neither do many of you. But hereโs the thing - liking it is irrelevant right now.
We canโt afford four more years of Trump.
