Severitus Fic Rec List

Severitus is the HP fic term for Snape mentoring, adopting, or fathering Harry. Their relationship is gen, not romantic, but fics often contain side pairings. Most of these–about 90%– contain child abuse/neglect. I have bolded, added warnings for particularly bad instances and sexual abuse. But it’s a great category of fic because angst and awesome writing. And also angst. And sometimes angst.

My notes: Parts 1-3 are from Scorpius's POV and part 4 is a prequel from Harry's POV. Short fics that tell a lovely story of a new family. I really liked seeing things from Scorpius's point of view, how he observed his father's behavior and his new relationship with Harry. I could've read more of these short stories.

Finding out the answer is actually him, and that his Veela heritage is wreaking havoc on his ability to work, sleep, and above all be in the same room as Malfoy, is a surprise to say the least. But this is fine. Harry’s been through worse, and he can just sit this one out, regardless of how much his body is screaming for the one person he doesn’t want to ask for help. Can’t he?

Excerpt: "....He didn't trust himself not to ruin everything they’d carefully built up between them, and which he was surprised to find meant an awful lot to him. Harry wanted to keep Draco around, not whip his cock out and frighten him off forever."

Notes, review & spoilers: Harry tries to stay away from Draco but it isn't going as well as he had planned. I liked the author's writing style. The fic is just the right length as well for this type of story.

An Honourable Man by Cithara

Summary:  After being held hostage by the Death Eaters, a blood magic ritual threatens Harry's life and Severus must step in and marry him to ensure his safety. As they embark on a marriage, Severus realises that he knows very little about the man he's married, and indeed has many lessons to learn about himself. 

Review, notes and spoilers: If I had time, I would have read this at one go. This was really well written and told from Severus’s POV.  

The first chapter had me in tears. The way Severus treated Harry in the first stages of their marriage was just so heartbreaking and then there is Draco who is furiously defending Harry. The horrors Harry had to endure in the hands of Death Eaters have left him quiet, kind and broken. Severus is not the title’s “Honourable Man” in the beginning although he himself believes so. His character grows as the story goes on and he finds new sides of himself. This story is about listening your partner, accepting them as they are, offering support when it’s needed and growing together.

Temporary Mate by Lomonaaeren

Summary: Escorting Malfoy on a dangerous mission in another dimension to speak to French Veela, Harry and his fellow Aurors are attacked and left for dead. Harry and Malfoy are the only survivors, and wounds the attackers inflicted have released Malfoy’s Veela heritage. Now he’s probably going to die unless Harry can successfully bind himself to Malfoy as a temporary mate—and they still have to survive the trek to reach the Veela stronghold.

Review, notes, spoilers: Story begins immediately after what was described in the summary. You can probably guess the bond doesn’t stay temporary but needs fulfillment. Their bond is tested by other Veelas, their family and friends. I actually thought that the story would span mostly in the other dimension but it was half and half. Begins there but then moves to ‘Earth’. The characters are typical to the author and I find comfort in that. I know what I’ll get. <3 Story has Harry’s and Draco’s POVs.

Lifetime Decisions by SasuNarufan13

Summary: Astoria isn't able to conceive due to a misfired spell. Harry offers to be their surrogate, wanting to help one of his best friends. Draco agrees and while both think they can keep their hearts out of it, it will prove very difficult to just stay friends when Harry falls pregnant.

Review, notes and spoilers: Harry is warm-hearted and would do anything for his friends. Draco wants to have kids and raise them differently from his own upbringing. All that love but nowhere to put it. Astoria’s situation is difficult and when Harry gets pregnant with Draco’s child, she distances herself from her husband. Meanwhile Draco realizes that the thing growing inside of Harry is a real baby :’) 

I read this at one go, it was addictive. The characters are good and believable. Harry’s fears made me want to protect them, precious little characters <3 There’s a little confusion going on between Harry and Draco, I wanted to scream “Honestly! Teenagers... *eyeroll*”. But it was all well and good ^^ Has Draco’s and Harry’s POVs.

The Courtship of Harry Potter  by Diana Williams (dkwilliams)

Review: During their 7th year at Hogwarts Erastes Rites takes place. Erastes is an older wizard who wants to mentor a younger boy in exchange for sex. Harry gets offers and before he decides who he chooses, courting ensues. This is a really nice fic, light and easy to read. Kids are kids, Severus is Severus..  No Voldemort in sight. Happy ending with a closing epilogue.

Notes: This is a story of how Severus finds his soulmate, how he treasures the miracle that life has given him (Harry), how he secretly courts Harry (or so he thinks), how they learn things from each other, trust the bond and slowly become more intimate. It’s a long fic but you can barely notice it. Even though it starts from 1st year at Hogwarts the plot goes forward quickly and before you know it it’s already the 7th year. Voldemort doesn’t overwhelm this story, this is about Harry & Severus. Golden Trio works together nicely, no temper tantrums.

This is a story of love and healing and green things and living, and how Harry learns to live for what he died for. 

Notes: This was a nice story to read as pastime. The fic starts with everyone grieving and Harry is slowly figuring out his life after the war. The mood is kind of tranquil? Romania’s nature is described beautifully and I’d like nothing more than just stay at Charlie’s place too. 15 chapters went fast and it felt like the story and romance was just beginning.

At first Harry thought he was imagining the voice, too. Made sense, as he couldn't seem to stop thinking about Malfoy. But no, the man was actually in the visiting team's locker room, leaning against the wall as Harry stepped from the showers. Harry adjusted the towel slung around his hips, and looked around, but all his team mates had left by then. "Who let you in here?"

Notes: The story starts with a Quidditch match where Draco gets the Snitch with questionable methods. Harry of course thinks that there's more to it than meets the eye and starts a liaison with his former enemy.

Edit: 8/2021. I read this fic back in 2014 and I had saved it in my tumblr drafts. I can’t make better tags for this or tell you more of it because so much time has passed.
