Tord could fix anything. No, really. He probably saved us a lot of money in the time that he lived with us. When I saw that giant robot, I actually wasn't too surprised--if he could fix anything, he could probably build anything too. He could have made a living in so many different ways, and I was jealous of him because of that. The only thing I ever knew how to do was draw, and I couldn't even replace a tire on my car without giving up and calling for Tord. Whenever I would call for him to fix something, he'd end up dragging out this enormous tool box that probably weighed more than him (literally dragging it, he couldn't lift it without the help of me or Matt). We used to joke that when he was a kid he was bit by a dad. He did have a lot of dad-ish tendencies. He could have been an engineer (which, now that I think about it, is technically what he is now), and he was smart enough to be a physicist. He could fix things like a plumber, and build things like a carpenter; he fixed cars a lot too, which was something he enjoyed. That's good because there was always something wrong with his old car. He wasn't as much of a trigger happy guy as people seem to portray him as. Rarely did he ever actually use a gun. But I'll be damned if I haven't seen him disassemble and reassemble a gun with his eyes closed in a matter of a minute. He had so much opportunity, and he fucked himself over with something completely impossible. Whatever. Not my problem anymore.

There was a lot about Tord that I didn't know. Not that he kept anything from me, but because he never openly talked about himself without being asked. He did the strangest things, such as washing his hands at the sink for a solid two hours. I never asked him about it for years, but when I did, he told me he has severe obsessive compulsive disorder. Noticeable quirks such as that were definitely okay to point out, I concluded, but the various pill bottles in his room, his lack of sense of smell, and sunken in cheeks (despite being noticeably overweight) definitely were not. One day he was out somewhere with Matt, and I decided to sneak into his room to take a look at the prescriptions printed on some of the bottles. Several pill bottles were empty, and some had the labels ripped off. One of them, with the label ripped off, contained Xanax. This, of course, was highly concerning. I didn't know if he was snorting them or using them for anxiety or what. I took a look at another pill bottle stashed away in his side table drawer, still with the label intact and about half full. It was prescribed to him, and it was something called "Suboxine". I wasn't quite sure what it was. After a quick Google, I'd been informed that Suboxine is prescribed to people with opiate and heroin addiction to relieve withdrawal symptoms. I didn't ask him about that, nor did I tell a soul.

Of course I don't miss him. Heh, why would I? I always told him how much he sucked, all the time. No matter what was going on he... he always said somethin' stupid. It was pretty funny. Now it's kind of empty without him. Kinda makes you regret all the things you said to him when he was still around. All those terrible, mean things. Things I didn't... didn't mean. Things I want to take back. Some loser would probably wish that he'd come back, or maybe visit him in a dream, or somethin' stupid like that, so he maybe he could say something stupid like 'goodbye' or 'it's okay' Or 'I'm sorry.'

When we were kids, around fourteen, we would all sit in Tom's basement and listen to music and smoke his mum's cigarettes that he stole. I think we were all kind of sad, and when Tord joined us in the summer, and he and Tom were friends, he would smoke cigarettes with us and tell us that he was sad, too. That was weird to me, because we all knew that Tord came from a wealthy family and had a good life. I told him I didn't know why he of all people would be sad, and he told me he didn't either. I think that's what helped me understand a little more. Sometimes we spent days holed up in Tom's house. Sometimes we talked for hours, all four of us invested in the most intellectual conversation that fourteen year old boys could have. I think Tom was the first to admit that he kind of wanted to die, and the rest of us just kind of nodded our heads in agreement. None of us tried to kill ourselves. Not when we were teenagers, at least.
Edd
Matt's pretty dumb. That's a rule of thumb around the house. He's a vain, ginger, squared jawed, absent minded, forgetful air head who constantly does everything the complete opposite of what you want. And you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way.
Tom
I always thought Tom's eyes were kind of pretty. On top of the black in his eyes, they were also fogged, and cloudy. I have no idea how he's able to see, but he manages. I guess it's different than the way I see, or Edd sees. They just suit him. I asked him one day what his eyes looked like before they were black, and he went digging around in some old photo albums from when he was a really little kid. It almost looked off--seeing Tom, but with ice blue eyes instead of his signature fogged black. Even after seeing that, I still think his black eyes are prettier.
Matt
I wanted to believe that Tord was a good person. He always seemed to like me for some reason. Even when he came back, he centered on me. It made me feel special. So when I learned he was just using us to get his robot and destroy our home... I was crushed. I was very upset. It might have been bad to let my anger out on Tord by making his own robot attack him, but I had to get it out somehow. And now... now he may never come back. If he does, it'll probably be to carry out some revenge plot on us all. But a part of me likes to think he'll come back, apologize, and let us all become friends again. We can only hope.
Edd
Tord was…Warm. I liked him a lot, and I think he liked me, too. He was charming, and always had a way to make someone blush from his words. He was very touchy, and I could always feel his body heat when he would have his hand on my shoulder or his arm around me when he spoke to me. Not in a sweaty, gross way, but in a friendly way. His smile was sincere, and his cheeks would always flush when he got excited about something he talked about. Once he got the hang of English, he never stopped talking, but it only seemed to be around me. Normally, of course, I find that annoying, but a lot of times, he talked about me. He would tell me that he could never quite decide whether my eyes were ice-blue or sky blue, and he would assure me that people find my confidence attractive, and not overbearing–at least, it was to him. Despite all the sweet talk and blushing we’d share, neither of us had anything regarding feelings for each other besides close friendship. He was my best friend. And damn, I miss having a friend.
Matt
I wanted to make it in the big city. I wanted to draw, make comics, write... I wanted to be known. But I got there and realized it was not as simple as I dreamed it would be. There were bills, there were taxes... I became poor. I became homeless. I joined the military again, where else could I go? I loved guns, I needed food and shelter, it seemed like a perfect fit. Yeah, okay, I did some bad things to get to where I was, but I was living was I not? I looked back on my old memories with happiness at first, but I eventually realized... they did this to me. They didn't try and stop me from going to the big city. They were probably sitting at home, doing nothing, not thinking about me, not caring about if I was okay. They did this! I hate them for doing this to me! I... I... I miss them. I really miss them. I just want everything to go back to how it was...
Tord
I wasn't a popular kid. I know, shocking, how could someone like me NOT have friends? All I wanted to do was talk about my day, and my week, my family. APPARENTLY that's 'rude' and 'narcissistic' and that 'I shouldn't yawn and look around for something else to do when they talk back to me.' Edd, Tord, they were the first real people who talked to me! Tord, not speaking English, was the perfect person to talk to about my favorite things. Edd, however, talked back occasionally. That got on my nerves a bit... but Edd's still my friend. I guess Tord could still be my friend after everything that happened. Maybe. Tom's a good friend, too, even if he doesn't admit it. I've changed a lot since I was that age. Will I still talk about myself to Edd and Tom whenever I feel like it though? Indubitably.
Matt
I was the first out of Edd, Matt and I to meet Tord. Every year, once a year, Tord's family would travel to England during the summer. Tord knew very little English when I first talked to him, because we were both only around seven or eight. He saw me, and he frantically waved his chubby little hands at me and said, 'Hallo!' And I said hello back. His eyes went big, like he was surprised that I responded, and he said 'Hallo! Hallo! Mitt navn er Tord! Tord!' And I didn't realize what was happening, but he was dragged away by his mother's iron grip before I could say anything. The next year, he returned to England with his family again. I recognized him when I saw him talking to Edd at the playground. He knew a little more English this time, like shapes, and colors, and body parts--basic stuff that would get him by in normal conversations a nine year old would have. He recognized me from the previous year, and he told me his eyes were weird too, and pointed out that one of his was green, and the other was blue. And in the weirdest way, that made me feel a little better about myself.
Tom
I never... really wanted my eyes to be like they are. They aren't hollow, or missing, they're just black. Believe it or not, my eyes weren't like this originally. When I was around three years old or so, I was on a playground at school like a normal kid my age would be. I was on top of the playset, having the time of my life, when some other kid pushed me over. I don't remember his name, or really what he looked like, it was so long ago, I guess. I fell and hit my face on one of the monkey bars. Not just my face, I hit my eyes. I was out for a few hours, and when I woke up, I was in the hospital. My parents said it was 'hyphema' or something like that. I couldn't really see that well, but I got used to it, and eventually I just kinda went with it without complaint. It helped a little to see that 2D guy from that Gorilla band or whatever have the same condition.
Tom
Often when they fought, Tord would jut the bottom of his jaw out and flare his nostrils, and Tom would clench his fists and poke his chest out in an attempt to look bigger, and both ways were very familiar to each other, as well as Matt and I; we would watch from a safe distance. Looking bigger than Tord wasn’t a challenge, as Tom was about a foot taller than the other, but he was significantly thin–he looked almost malnourished. I always tried to get him to eat more. And Tord would talk between his clenched teeth in Norwegian, and Tom would start to shake. Soon enough, Tord’s freckly face would be bright red and he’d be on top of Tom, smashing his fists into his face, and Matt would try to pry him off, and I would just keep yelling and crying, don’t hurt him, you’re gonna kill him, you don’t hit him when he’s down. Tord always won. So when he looked down from that huge machine at me with his jutted jaw and flared nostrils, I think I knew something big was going to happen.
