“MENINAS—” he called, halting the footsteps behind him, with no dominance but gentle interest, “COME. EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT I SEE:  HOW FARE YOUR COMRADES? ARE THEY MOTIVATED? DO THEY UNDERSTAND THEIR TASKS RESPECT THEIR SUPERIORS?”

Briefly, she stops – then cautiously coming closer, watchful as if he were not a man, A GOD, but an easily spooked wild animal. Insulting, perhaps, but she means nothing but respect as she bows in greeting. “Your Majesty.”

She shoots a pensive look out and down. “We are well – some of us restless perhaps, EAGER – but motivation and morale is high.” Early on, she had learned to never measure respect solely by that to superiors, and it’s honesty that compels her to share her actual thoughts. “I believe –” everyone respects you goes unsaid, “ –– the Sternritter respect the Schutzstaffel, and I think many Soldat aspire to the abilities of higher ranks. It’s only that those who share a rank can sometimes be a little … LACKING.”

   They’re having a contest to see who can throw a building the furthest. Gerard needed something to do before he and the other Schutzstaffel lay siege to the Soul Palace, so he’s entered an impromptu contest of strength. So far, Meninas has proven her power by sending a structure skyrocketing across the Seireitei. Gerard walks over and grapples another building before flipping it up and over his back, tearing it from the ground and launching it into the sky.

“Excellent form!” she shouts, squinting against the sun to see where his throw will land – even from a distance, she can feel the ground tremble, and a cloud of dust and debris rises far, far away from them.

Really, it’s a shame so few can play this game, even amongst the Sternritter. She remembers vividly how intimidated she was by Gerard (she was intimidated by most Sternritter, but Schutzstaffel in particular), and how HAPPY she was to find out it was baseless – he’s vivacious, jovial, and great to train with. “Gerard, I wonder – do you know if your power has a LIMIT?”

           SO TO HOME  the Hunter finally arrives, a line of Soldat following behind him. While there wasn’t a single falter in their leader’s step, the others looked too weary, too tired. And behind them, pulled and restrained, were a bevy of beaten and rather gaunt Hollow.

         “ WE’VE ARRIVED!  We’ve arrived at Silbern! Halt, all of you! Don’t move until I tell you to! ”  Quilge’s voice rang out, loud enough for everyone else to hear. He turned, gaze scanning over the group. Nothing seemed out of place; he turned once more.

           Some steps were taken away, for a moment. The doors of the glimmering city stood, opening to an icy breath. Upon examination, someone else was standing: The Power. Pleasantly surprised (although never showing it), Quilge gave a quick nod to her.   “ Greetings to you, Meninas. Going somewhere? ”

Whenever one of their army units was set to return, she left Silbern for another perch, a roof gutter, balcony or the top of a spire, exposed to ice and wind. It was quiet except on the most windy days, and while she waited, she could watch the skies of their made world. PEACEFUL, unlike the world of the Living or elsewhere. It was no surprise to her that the Jail arrived with perfectly punctuality; his control over the troops was perhaps one of the few things more defined than his cheekbones.

“All I do is wait, Quilge,” she smiled, no trace of irony in her tone as she briefly studied the soldiers under his command. Smoothly, her eyes strayed to the Hollows he’d brought with him, expression still unfaltering in its amiableness. Perhaps it was dangerous for ordinary Soldat to be based in Hueco Mundo, but it was surprising to see the state of both parties. “Have you had a PLEASANT stay?”
