kaveh, who literally just stopped by gandharva ville to share some freshly ground coffee and it turned into a lil chat about mehrak:

kaveh: but i'm perfectly fine????

on the one hand, this means that kaveh has not caught onto alhaitham's 32-step master plan to subtly nudge and manipulate kaveh into accepting kindness and maintaining healthier lifestyle habits

on the other hand….. 😮‍💨

in the words of the immortal ben wyatt, kaveh defends himself with "could a depressed person make mehrak??"

his greatest hope for mehrak was that she would understand him….

haikavetham's chara lore is literally

alhaitham: yeah this is a house for us but kaveh said no

kaveh: oh yeah my kinda ex (its complicated) renovated our former worksite into a house and invited me but it was kinda awkward and i dont wanna see him again so i turned him down…

honestly just thinking about it, of course kaveh turned down the house! not only did he not need an extra house, he'd have to deal with the fact that alhaitham decided to live in the place where they broke up

…he's not going to think about that

adding onto this, that means he designed and built mehrak, his little light that he hoped would be able to understand him, in this house that used to be their former research center

and incorporated a pattern alhaitham designed while they were in school together into her attacks

on kaveh's anger

a thing that gets overlooked a lot imo is that fandom gets a WAY different look at kaveh than the rest of sumeru because we see him through alhaitham

for example:

if you mentioned the broke artist trope to anyone around kaveh, they'd be all ?? wdym he's broke, kaveh built that amazing palace

pretty sure kaveh manages to recover from his bankruptcy with only dori, alhaitham, & tighnari in the know

similarly, with kaveh's "cute" anger:

alhaitham purposefully annoys kaveh at times bc he thinks its funny (& useful to distract kaveh from worse feelings, like in his hangout)

tighnari also treats kaveh being irritated as not that srs. but in those situations, kaveh's not actually angry

kaveh when he's truly angry:

he tears up a cherished thesis & ends a beloved friendship for good. (years will pass before he ever spends time with that person again)

an angry kaveh drops clients in a fit of rage.

angry kaveh plans to move out asap.

kaveh when he's angry is impulsive and makes drastic decisions. that's not when he's reacting to being teased ("hey! you...!")

but because we see kaveh around alhaitham more, we see more of the latter & think its the former

wherein kaveh confesses first

in general i think kaveh has to be the one to break the stalemate that is their situationship

just given all their baggage/history, haitham's more likely to favor the status quo

but kaveh is the one who regrets saying that he wishes they had never been friends (the final break)

so its important for him to be the one who is ready to take that step forward & say that he would like for them to be more than friends..!

but ofc this is just his feelings, its fine if alhaitham doesn't return them that way, kaveh is perfectly happy that they are friends again--

alhaitham: can i kiss you?

kaveh: what?

alhaitham: consent is a necessary part of any relationship, no?

kaveh: ...oh!!! then, yes!! yes, you can-- wait no, i want to kiss YOU

(later they argue over who kissed who first but in the moment… who's really keeping track 😊)

and then one of his hangout routes is about how even if you can't be understood, companionship is just as valuable

…the takeaway being kaveh might never be understood by the masses despite how he longs to belong to the crowd (chara story 5), but maybe he can have a companion

additionally, they're a monument to excess, not to good taste

they exemplify having too much money & not knowing how to use it to improve your local community

instead you just opt for the most opulent and generic interiors produced thousands of miles away and shipped to your door

anyways i think kaveh would be a "eat the rich" and "being a billionaire is immoral" kinda guy

if he was real and lived in the US in the 80s or something, he'd be on a FBI watchlist for having suspected communist/socialist leanings (and they'd be right, but they shouldn't interfere with his career/block his travel like that 😭)

because the akademiya has only just finished its tally of innovations stemming from their unfinished student thesis

and the akademiya is nowhere near ready to cope with the breakthroughs & insights from another collaborative project (their marriage)

their application for grant funding will mysteriously be entangled in bureaucratic red tape & then be stuck in "under review" status for ages

until alhaitham gets annoyed & suggests self-funding bc their first preliminary paper has been completed for a week already (kaveh had 5 coffees & drafted it in one very long work session before taking the nap of his life)

imagine finally meeting god for the first time (though your fiance rescued her and then was her direct report for several months) because she's the one pulling strings to make sure you two can get married before the next century
