                                Faerun’s Midsummer Festival 

                                                 June 21st-27th

Who: This event is open to all Forgotten Realms RPers.

What: A Midsummer Festival, held in towns and cities across Faerun, celebrates the seasons and the sheer joy and potential of life. Dancing, games, and feasting are just some of the activities to be explored at the festival in the company of friends old and new!

How: As with the Neverwinter Ball, RPers are free to participate in this event in whatever manner and to whatever extent they choose. In the weeks leading up to the event, for example, you could RP your muse asking another muse to attend the Festival or the dance with them. On the first day, I will post a general description of the Festival. Each day I will post a new Event for the day, as a suggestion of things your muse might do or see. You can run with those Events and turn them into starters or incorporate them into RPs, or simply ignore them. It’s up to you! Everything will be tagged Faerun Midsummer Festival, and it’s recommended you use those tags for your RPs as well.

When: I will post the description of the Festival and the first Event by 12AM (CT) June 21st. After that, I will post events once a day by 10AM (CT). Where: While the main Festival will be set at Crossroad Keep, the location is absolutely flexible and up to the RPer.

Danial raised an eyebrow, a soft bark of delighted laughter escaping him. “Well, that’s a useful spell,” he declared with a grin. His gaze turned appraising and sly as he glanced at Asher. “Now I know you can do that, next time we might just have to make more of a mess,” he teased lightheartedly. With that, he grabbed Asher’s shoulders to tug the elf in for one last kiss. “Thank you,” he rumbled. “For everything.”

Asher rose on his toes for the kiss Danial bestowed, smiling like a contented cat all the while. “‘Twas my pleasure, Danial.” His eyes twinkled as he laughed. “Ah, as I’m sure you remember quite vividly.”

The light in his eyes softened then, his palm cupping Danial’s cheek. He stroked Danial’s cheek tenderly then dropped his hand to clasp the mercenary’s own. “Let us return, our road awaits.”

Violet blushes again, looking very intently into her mug. “I cannot honestly say I look at the female members in that way enough to give you your answer,” she mumbles into her drink. “Though some are more…popular than others.”

Danial continued to grin, and took a sip of his drink. “And what about you?” he asked, quite curious as to whether or not she was even available. “Surely you’re one of the popular ladies in your guild.”

Violet laughs derisively at the very thought. “No, not me,” she says. “I am perhaps the least popular lady in the guild.”

“Surely not!” Danial exclaimed. “A lovely woman like yourself must have a dozen men at her heels!” His grin turned teasing. “Surely you aren’t lying to me, Lady Violet.”

“No, no, I’m pretty unpopular,” she says. “My father has made more than a few enemies there, and the sins of the father do in fact have an effect.”

For a brief but noticeable moment, Danial’s expression turned grim and stormy. “That,” he growled quietly, trying to hide the brunt of his upset behind a swallow of wine, “is true more often than not.”

Then, like a mask had been slipped back into place, the grim anger was gone. “But that’s why we prove people wrong, yes? Show them we aren’t our fathers’ children.”

Every muscle in Danial’s body was tensed, and his eyes were utterly cold as he stared at the drow. There was hate in his gaze, violent and fierce enough to stir apprehension in the heart of any normal enemy.

But the drow was no normal enemy, and Danial was painfully aware of that fact. He and his tiefling ally could take the bastard, but there wasn’t even a sliver of a chance that they might get to him before he took the tortured woman’s head off.

Frustration thumping through him with every beat of his heart, the mercenary lowered his greatsword until the tip met the floor with a soft ring of metal on stone. “Let her go,” he growled, yielding to the impossibility of the situation.

Alamondar lowered his own sword, silencing and stilling his next spell - one of invisibility. As he disappeared, Balithor stepped to the side, knowing the drow would be walking out, probably still prepared to end Aruya’s life. 

Sure enough, Alamondar’s voice echoed from the entrance. “This isn’t over…” Balithor glanced at the human before rushing forward to the tortured woman. “Thanks for the assistance, friend. I would not have been able to take him alone, as much as I might have wished otherwise. Will you help me get her down and take care of her? Please?” The hellfire powers receded as he spoke, yet the glow in his eyes remained, as they always did.

Danial stood frozen in place, watching the entrance to the cave suspiciously, and only sheathed his weapon when his newfound ally asked him for help. He couldn’t stop himself from wincing, stomach turning a little, when he fully took in the tortured woman’s condition for the first time. She was beyond battered- the bastard had taken his time to break her, body and spirit.

“Let’s get the barbed wire off,” he instructed, unclasping his cloak with one hand and quickly spreading it on the filthy floor. “Then hold her shoulders and try not to let her fall. I’ll get her feet.” Without waiting for Balithor to respond, he hastened to the hanging woman’s side and began trying to free her from the barbed wire wrapped around her wrists. The barbs slide from her skin with small trickles of blood, leaving behind shallow puncture wounds. He expected her to whimper, or speak, but the woman, whoever she was, simply lay limp and virtually lifeless. It was as if she couldn’t feel the small pain of those wounds. Given the extremity of her other injuries, Danial wasn’t surprised.

Once he was finished removing the wire he tossed it unceremoniously to one side and reached for the chains around her ankles. He was certain he’d be able to slip her feet through the loops of metal, but it would be agonizing for her. "I’ll move fast,” he said quietly, not even certain if he was attempting to comfort the woman or share his pan with his ally. “We’ll lay her on my cloak. Ready?”

“I hate escort work,” she says. “That’s why I’m so rarely assigned it. I…don’t get along well with people.”

Every time she had been assigned to be as escort they had looked too closely and saw what she was. Twice, she had been forced to kill who she was escorting to preserve her own life. Manifesto did not assign those jobs to her anymore. It cost the guild money and get her a great deal of personal stress.

“’Assigned’?” Danial echoed curiously. “PArt of a crew, I take it? Or one of those guilds out of the cities?” His own suspicions about her actual line of work remained, but he was hardly about to come out and say he’d guessed she was a thief.

Red wine (Effron)

Effron was in his arms, and they were both humming and singing quietly in the empty hall. To anyone else the scene would have looked ridiculous- a tall necromancer with a twisted arm, dancing with a taller mercenary in front of a taxidermy bear with a fine red dress and a pile of empty bottles at her feet.

To Danial, it felt wonderful.

The alcohol in his system was signing as surely as he was, and sending a dozen or more suggestions winging through his hazy mind. Some he was able to discard immediately. No matter how intriguing he found Effron, he wasn’t about to try and bed the man when they were both so very drunk. Nor was he going to ask him about himself, or begin any conversation that might dampen both their spirits. So, Danial did the only thing that felt right.

He leaned forward and gently pressed his lips to Effron’s.
