thefighternextdoor,
When she had pleaded for him to quit speaking to her the way he was, Cloud became quiet and stood in the dark room with his eyes now focusing on the floor as he stayed deep in thought for a few moments, listening to her every word. He knew she was right. The kids both needed him and he wasn’t playing the role of a father at the least. “…I have been going back to the Forgotten City after working most days…” Cloud admitted. He knew he had to be nothing but honest towards her, even if it made her upset.
He then stepped closer to her, wanting so badly to console her or take away the disappointment she was feeling towards him in that moment but was unsure of what to say or what actions to follow through with.
“The Forgotten City…” It wasn’t like she could yell at him for that, not in the slightest however she was surprised that he was able to go to such a place with the type of memories that it held.
But no. She wasn’t here to feel sad, or re-hash memories out in her mind and she caught his stepping forward with a piercing look, raising her head so that she could look him straight in the eyes. “Regardless,” for a split moment Tifa was silent and then she was continuing, “That doesn’t mean that you can’t call. Can’t let us know that you’re alright and you’re not laying dead in a ditch somewhere, Cloud!” She took a deep breath, swiping her palm across a brow as her eyes slid shut for a moment. “It’s like you try to worry us.”
"I know..." He replied quietly at a low tone after hearing her lecture of staying in contact. He realized he could at least get back to their calls, texts, and messages. Though, he never had much to say. He didn't want to be honest about Forgotten City during that time. Once he heard that final statement, Cloud lifted his head to look directly into her hazel eyes. "No." He said firmly before stepping closer and placing a hand onto her shoulder. "....I don't try to hurt you."
His eyes stayed focus on hers as he stood in silence for a few moments. He slid his gloved palm along her arm until he reached her wrist, where he then held his fingers loosely around her wrist. "Maybe...I'm not fit for the role of a father." His tone had saddened and he lowered his head once more.

..mother..?
shurikenxturk,
Though he knew he’d seen her in the past, he never knew her name. When she smiled at him and spoke in that familiar tone, Cloud lowered his head in thought as memories poured in. He remembered Zack talking to this girl while they were trying to escape Shinra all those years back.
“…What is your name..” He asked quietly as he narrowed both mako infused eyes.
Cissnei watched as Cloud silently observed her. She knew he was trying to figure out just who she was. The Turk wasn’t surprised in the slightest that he didn’t remember her. They had only met for a moment, and again he was in a coma of sorts.
The auburn haired Turk nodded politely and smiled softly. “I am Cissnei.”
Once she introduced herself, he started to remember vaguely, Zack saying the name once or twice. "..Do you--mn...Did you know Zack...?" Cloud asked in a mono-tone after bringing his head back up to look into her eyes.
thatdamnreno started following you.
"Something up...?" Cloud asked coldly towards the red head.
marlene-wallace,
“I’m on my way home tonight.”
Those words echoed in her head. She was taken aback yet ecstatic at the same time. Cloud is coming home! She couldn’t contain the giant smile that spread across her face.
“Okay!” That didn’t sound overly happy, right?
“I miss you Cloud.”
After hearing her last words, Cloud merely smiled to himself then flipped his phone closed to end the call. He slipped the electronic into his pocket before swinging a leg over his bike and starting the engine. Though, before he had left, the blonde looked around him and stared at the peaceful water that glistened under the blue lighting. ”I’ll come back…so..you’re not alone.” He said in a low tone before kicking his foot up and driving down the Forgotten City’s paths.
It had taken him some time to finally arrive at 7th Heaven. It felt like ages since he was last at home and so after parking the Fenrir, he quietly made his way up the steps and pushed open the door in attempts to not wake anyone. After securing the lock on the door, the ex-SOLDIER then made his way upstairs to Denzel’s and Marlene’s bedroom, then swiftly snuck in. He noticed both children in their bed’s but knelt down next to Marlene’s. His hand lightly gliding over her forehead to brush her bangs out of her sleeping eyes.
Though deep in sleep with the phone tucked in-between her hands, she could feel someone else’s presence in the room. Someone so close to her, breathing on her, touching her forehead. Could it be—?
Her eyelids drew back, revealing sleepy yet curious brown eyes.
“Cloud…?” she mumbled. She rubbed her eyelids, yawned, and squinted in the dark. Spiked blonde hair and bright blue eyes came to view. She gasped and quickly sat upright.
“Cloud!” she exclaimed in pure bliss. She wrapped her arms around him tightly as she buried her head at the crook of his neck. “You’re home…”
Surprised by her sudden embrace, Cloud's eyes widened and he blinked. An arm then slowly lifted and wrapped around the petite frame; holding her securely for a few moments. He then placed both hands on her shoulders to pull her from the hug and looked into her tired eyes. "Let's not wake Denzel". Cloud whispered softly before turning his head to glance back at the boy who was fast asleep under the thin sheets.
"Are you tired?" He asked Marlene with concern. "Why don't you go back to sleep...In the morning, you can come to the slums with me."
thefighternextdoor,
Sleeping…in the office. Cloud merely shook his head, not wanting to stir up any nerves especially when she seemed upset with him enough as it was. “…I’m sorry.” Was all he could say. He knew that being away from the family was hurting them, as well as himself. Yet he couldn’t bring himself to leave the Forgotten City as he felt that he would be leaving an old friend in loneliness.
“I..had to take care of some things.” He muttered coldly as his head turned slightly to the side. His arm then reached out so he could close the office door in order to keep their conversation private from both Marlene and Denzel who were hopefully still asleep.
At least he apologized, that was a plus although Tifa was never quite sure if he ever meant those words or not. So many people used it more and more, it was like the words meaning has diminished, a simple phrase designed more to get people off someones back rather than to express remorse.
“Please don’t speak to me like that..” she asked, a bit hurt by the cold tone used, watching as he closed the door before moving to lean against the wall. “You always have to take care of things. There are things to take care of here too, you know. The kids constantly miss you when you’re gone, there are people who will prefer to talk to you over anyone else and I can never quite tell them where you are because half the time I have no clue.” She sighed, running a hand through her already rumpled hair, eyes leaving him and drifting to the side.

thefighternextdoor,
The amount of relief that hit his chest when he saw her face caused Cloud to release a deep sigh. His eyes closed for a short moment as he shook his head. “Everything, is alright.” He stated before walking closer to her. Though he wondered why she was not in bed at such an hour.
”..Tifa. Why are you not asleep when it’s past midnight?” He asked quietly, with a sound of deep concern in his tone. “And..it’s cold.” He stated as his mako hues brought their attention to her bare arms. He attempted to avoid the questioning on where he’s been for the past few days, yet stayed quiet in his speech so he would not wake the two children.
“I was sleeping…” she stated softly, feet moving so that her toes were overlapping slightly as her eyes slowly lowered to the ground for a few moments. She wasn’t about to bring up that she had only recently fallen asleep for what seemed like only moments in the office of all area’s.
“How…” she started before trailing off, not quite knowing how to start with her mind still fuzzy. “I’m glad nothing’s wrong.” That sounded like a good way to start. “How did it go? Did it take longer than you expected?” A slightly hidden jab in her words designed to let him know that she wasn’t all that happy with him at this moment. His coming back late, it wasn’t something that any of them appreciated. But at least he was coming home.

thefighternextdoor,
Being that it had hit midnight, Cloud sighed as he walked up the steps to his home, 7th Heaven. It was a long day and he knew since he’d been out working everyday, he hadn’t had a chance to spend much time with Tifa or even Denzel. He was aware of this, so he was expecting that she might be slightly upset with him.
Cloud opened the front door quietly then closed it behind him. His eyes narrowed in order to bring focus through the dark room. She must be in bed. He thought to himself as he then dropped his keys onto one of the tables and made his way up the stairs and to the kids bedroom.
He peeked through the crack of the door to check on them. Seeing both Marlene and Denzel resting comfortably in their separate beds. Once he was reassured of their safety, Cloud turned around and walked across the hall towards the bedroom both him and Tifa shared. ”Tifa..?” He whispered quietly then looked around the room.
“Tifa?!” The bed was empty. He flicked on the room light and glanced around with a look of worry written over his facial features. Turning around sharply, he left the bedroom in slight panic and made his way to the other end of the top floor. “Tifa? Tifa.” His tone was quiet , yet stern.
Sleep had continued to evade her for a while now, and about an hour or so ago she had given up, swinging herself out of the bed that was slightly too chilly for her taste at the moment to pad out of the room—the blanket wrapped around her trailing along the floor. She hovered in the doorway to the kids room for a few moments, watching their even breaths before moving on, content that they were sleeping just fine.
If only her father knew that the little girl who wanted to experience being saved by a knight and tried to traverse Mt. Nibel because she was too young and stubborn to accept that her mother was gone was now trying to be the best mother figure that she could to two children that were not her own.
It was never too late for paperwork, something she had figured out not that long ago and the small office was her next step, forgoing the desk to sit on the floor against the wall with the papers and the blanket wrapped around her tighter than the chair would have permitted. A spur of the moment decision turning all the better as she finally managed to nod off—-
Re-awaking as the sound of her name being called softly reached her ears. Thinking one of the sleeping kids needed her she hoped up, rushing into the hall only to discover that it was someone else.
“Cloud?” She called just as softly, concern coming through in her voice as she walked closer. “Is everything alright?”
The amount of relief that hit his chest when he saw her face caused Cloud to release a deep sigh. His eyes closed for a short moment as he shook his head. "Everything, is alright." He stated before walking closer to her. Though he wondered why she was not in bed at such an hour.

shurikenxturk,
Once he crossed her path, Cloud’s eyes widened and he stopped before quickly turning and calling out to her. “Hey!” He said, waiting for her response.
Cissnei was finally returning to the Shin-Ra building after a mission. As she was walking, she heard a name call out to her. Turning her head, she found the source of the voice. The Turk turned her body and raised an eyebrow. It was Cloud, but the last time she had seen him he was in a mako induced stupor.
Folding her arms, she nodded softly and flashed a small smile. “Hello.”
Though he knew he'd seen her in the past, he never knew her name. When she smiled at him and spoke in that familiar tone, Cloud lowered his head in thought as memories poured in. He remembered Zack talking to this girl while they were trying to escape Shinra all those years back.
