“Precious”
24 x 30 in
Oil and oil pastel on canvas
Statement: Preserving image, whether physical in the bodily or objective sense, is an inherent want in human existence. Natural forces present as age, and remove our control of preservation; living in the present, we have no real way to undo the effects of the past. Every coat of paint, pill, spore and surgery are evidence of this struggle. Beyond the physical, consciousness is aging at every moment, erasing memories without allowing us to even execute such attempts at preservation. Accepting that everyone's state of being is in constant flux is difficult to reconcile with, even while being in a turbulent decade. However, it's in recognizing the familiarity of the scenes we have left that we can accept their new form—those tarnished hoop earrings, and that raggedy Walter A. Wood shirt are still here after all.
recently completed this body of work as my final painting for the semester! :)
