very late awakining, i've always felt home in water and really grew up surrounded by it. felt connection to nature/water spiritually and wished for a more direct connection, but now i've realized im definitely some sort of semi-aquatic merperson. so not a typical one with a single tail!

anyways im so done with land lovers, id be happy to make more friends in this community, also im from california :)

Fellow semi-aquatic! I was able to either spend longer out of water than most mers or shift to a human form because I remember enjoying sitting on the beach when I was a mer.

Hi! I always felt a deep love and a connection to the ocean, the sea animals and fishes. I love to swim, I don't know if there's a link that could explain this, but I'm a pisces. I dream since my childhood to be a mermaid, I just discovered I'm a mermaid kin thanks to your blog ! What could I do to explore and express this aspect of my life?

I'm so excited for you! It's always amazing to discover a new aspect of yourself.

My biggest suggestion is to 1) check out and/or join a mermaidkin community and 2) take time to discover what best fits you. Even just scrolling through mer kin Tumblr tags can help you connect with others that share this very special experience. As for the second, your specific experience as a mermaid can help determine what will help you. For example, I lived in a small cove/lagoon so I don't enjoy long stretches of beach as much as other mermaids do.

Hello ^^' I don't know if I'm a mermaid, but I've recently been feeling that I may have a kintype related to oceans/ponds and storms, I also very much enjoy singing in private but I have a fear of drowning, any thoughts?

My first thought was perhaps you come from a place where sirens come from those who others tried to drown. Or perhaps you enjoyed being near water until one day something happened to turn it against you.

Then again, I had a terrible fear of deep water until I was nearly a teenager!

There are so many water-related kintypes for you to explore. Besides mermaids, there are also aquatic creatures, naiads/nereids/oceanids, and sea monsters, just to name a few. A joy for singing is generally attributed to mermaids and/or sirens but it could simply be a personality trait of your specific past kin.

Always explore yourself! You know more than anyone else what the truth is, even if it takes time to reveal itself.

do you have any tips for coping with merfolk kinfeels during quarantine? i've been showering and taking lots of baths as much as i can but it just isn't the same!! i wanna be near the ocean and it pains me not to be

Quarantine may be officially over but as a landlocked mer who usually has to resort to pools and baths, I very much feel you!

Oftentimes, I'll run a bath, turn off the lights, and lay in it while meditating. I'll send myself back to my little island and hang out there until I begin to feel better. Add some salt and shells and it's not too-too difficult to pretend you're back in the ocean!

Watching oceanscapes also helps. You could set up a bowl or tub of water to stick your feet in while watching them on TV or watch them on a tablet or phone while you're in your bath.

I hope you're able to spend plenty of time near the ocean soon!

Hello!

I've answered a similar ask before where I mentioned I don't have a lot of good advice on this, but I'll do my best!

I was able to find out many details of my kin type through meditation. There's plenty of guided meditations you can find on YouTube and by searching the kin community. If you'd like, you could also consult someone who does pendulum readings or something similar.

Your soul knows best. If you have a deep, innate feeling (no matter how small or how hidden) that you are meant to be a mermaid, you probably are! That's how I began my journey - I simply felt in the back of my mind that I wasn't made for land.
