When Ross takes care of Merlin on his own
Campbell hummed as if he understood, but honestly, he was lying. "Wants are prolly ne'er very easy," he mused, trying to talk on Merlin's level, but knowing full well that it wasn't his forte.
"Anyways.. uh, I cannae help ye. With maths." Or anything. Cam smiled slightly. "Sorry."
"You should see Ross at night trying to decide what to eat when nothing sounds good," He replied with a small smirk.
He closed his books and piled them up neatly. "Then it's a problem for another day. Now. Though I cannot be burned, there are still strict rules about me and using a stove. Can you help me make some mac and cheese?"
"Probably." Cam smiled. "Uhm. From scratch or from a box? B'cause I might need a youtube tutorial or sumthin'.." He wasn't terribly good at cooking, or more like.. he didn't see the point of putting effort in when it was just for himself.
"Are ye allowed tae leave here? We could go out fer lunch, too," he suggested. "Ef we bring back sum gifts fer th'grownups, they cannae get too mad at us fer et, surely."
Merlin's eyes lit up at the chance to go on an adventure! "Yes! Let's go to lunch! I'm fond of either from scratch or box, but let's go out! Please! And...they don't need to know. What they don't know won't stress them out. But Ross is bribable with food. So as long as we bring him back something, he'll smooth things over with my dad if he gets upset."
Campbell hummed as if he understood, but honestly, he was lying. "Wants are prolly ne'er very easy," he mused, trying to talk on Merlin's level, but knowing full well that it wasn't his forte.

“Math has always sucked.”
"I knew it!" Merlin smiled in vindication. His father was trained to be good at numbers and code. Ross was good at numbers because of gambling. Numbers confused Merlin, and he preferred art, writing, and history. Things with stories!
"Were there any subjects in school you liked?"
Cam grinned and shrugged. "Uhm.. not really, mostly b'cause I was behind a lot, sae even ef I liked the subject, et still stressed me out."
He paused. "Dae ye go tae school? Or dae yer dad's..?"
"Every time we move some place new they say they'll think about it," He replied with a frown. "They teach me stuff. Magical courses to cover the basics, and it'll go into more detail as I get older. But also normal stuff. Writing, reading, maths. World history, mostly focusing on where we're at usually. Plants so I know which ones are safe and which ones not to touch. Poison ivy was an experience..."
"Hm, I bet et was." Cam half smiled. He wondered what Merlin would prefer, a normal school or this, but didn't ask. Whatever the answer to that question was, neither of them had any influence on it, anyway.
"Es et hard? Magic?" He'd seen what Robin could do, and he knew Jack had some abilities too, but Cam still couldn't wrap his head around it.
Merlin tilted his head and hummed. Not a question he's ever been asked. He was the youngest magic user anywhere he went and was almost always around other magic users. Through natural talent or trained experience...he was the the novice. The one being taught.
He never thought if magic was hard before. "Sometimes..." Merlin settled on. "A lot of the time...it's a response to my wants or needs. When I was younger...well, if I wanted my teddy I'd summon him to me. If I was cold or if it was too dark...well, I'd start a fire. Fire doesn't hurt me!" He was quick to add. He remembered needing to tell that fact. "When I get upset, my magic would react to that...help me voice what I didn't know the words to."
"Magic is easier when your wants are simple...getting older and learning the rules of the world...the rules of magic...learning that being you can scare people or make them angry..."
"Magic is easy. The world it's in is hard." He settled on.
“Math has always sucked.”

“Remember, it’s trash can, not trash can’t.”
"Except Ross. He's British. So he's technically rubbish."
Andie had to fight back a laugh as she shook her head. “That’s not nice, Firebug.”
"But I'm technically right. Which is the best kind of right," He replied with a smirk. The power of words was ingrained in him how important it was. They allowed room for wiggle room and loopholes, but given what they were, could become literal manifestations.
"Who were you tryin' to motivate anyway?"
“Remember, it’s trash can, not trash can’t.”
"Except Ross. He's British. So he's technically rubbish."
"Can I bribe your silence with a sweet?" It worked on Ross.
"My family is not conventional. I'm constantly running away, and whenever my father finds me, he grades me on how far I got and how well I survived.
"Most he's ever been pissed at is that my taste after a few days goes high end and it's a pretty dead give away I'll be Home Alone 2-ing it somewhere fancy. Not because of the price but because of the predictability.
"Why am I gonna struggle to descale a fish and deal with the bones when I can have room service literally bring me a pizza on a silver platter?"
"Making things disappear is easy. Sometimes you don't even need magic to do it. Making them reappear, however...that's a whole other business. I try to keep it to inanimate objects."
❝ you can ask me anything you want. i promise i'll answer truthfully except the things i feel like lying about. ❞ - @merlin-trades
“Mm, I see Ross has been extolling his infinite wisdom again,” Andie replied, chuckling. “You wouldn’t happen to know what happened to the cupcake I was saving on the fridge, would you?”
@merlin-trades
"Mayhaps..." Merlin drawled with a bit of a smirk.
"Hmmm...." he's been playing poker with Ross since...a long time. Plus with the 'family business' keeping cool, calm, and collected was something they actually practiced. Still...Andie was one of the few who could read him better than most. "Sounds like a tall person issue. I haven't hit my growth spurt yet so...no?"

“Is it true that every season is spooky because adulthood is being haunted by your life choices?”
“WHAT SORT OF IRRESPONSIBLE ADULT TOLD YOU THE TRUTH?!”
"His name's Ross. I ask him questions, he answers them. He doesn't lie. Not to me. But he's busy on an emergency and so I'm all alone. It's why I summoned you."
“Is it true that every season is spooky because adulthood is being haunted by your life choices?”
Starters for child muses.

Adult muse speaking to a child muse:
“You can’t come with, you’re too young.”
“Why is there a child here?”
“So, what do you usually do for fun.”
“What did those kids say to you?”
“There’s nothing under your bed.”
“Math has always sucked.”
“Excuse me, you should not be saying that. How old are you?”
Child to Adult
“My teacher gave me detention”
“Let’s play a game.”
“Why does homework even exist?”
“I’m not a little kid anymore.”
“I can reach the top shelf! I’m getting really tall.”
“Can we have a puppy?”
Child to Child
“Can I copy off of you?”
“Do you want to play house?”
“Do you want to have a sleepover?”
“My mom grounded me for what you did.”
“I can’t play with you anymore.”
