she had been watching this particular human for quite some time. she was interested in the way he maneuvered, the way he worked. he reminded him of her own brother — a head always stuck in one of those book things, squinted eyes bagged with exhaustion yet curiosity. she wanted to talk to him, get to know him. wanted to be his FRIEND.

mermaids were known to be persistent, pushy even. but mabel meant no harm, she was just tired of braiding her own hair. that, and dipper’s. besides, this kid’s was just too perfect ! so raising from the water, she seats herself upon the rocky shelf, patting the water eagerly with her tail.

the words soar past her ‘ ears ‘ without a second thought, the mermaid reclined easily against a rather warm rock. she didn’t understand this triangle very much — what was this about shooting stars and bubble dimensions ? carefree as always, her tail instead flips happily beneath the waves, optics LOCKED with the singular of the other. a question — she always didn’t hear it.

her voice was soft and warm, fingers spinning circles in the tub’s water. her eyes were downcasted, tail flipping gently in the water. the tub was much too small for her, she was practically a beached whale in here ! but she didn’t complain — dipper had really helped her when she needed it. sure, he would grow embarrassed when he’s stumble into her bathroom late at night, but they got along fairly well.
she liked the company. she liked her small task of BABYSITTING — dipper wasn’t the best when it came to hygiene. so she’d remind him ever now or so ; did you brush your teeth ? make sure you wash your hair ! keep your chin up and wear clean pants !
she really enjoyed helping him. she enjoyed listening to his stories, enjoying looking over the that journal with him, even if she couldn’t read the words. she knew he was excited, passionate, BRIGHT MINDED. but lately, there was a question that lurked in her fishy little mind, making her speak the words almost timidly.
