Space Of Variations: POISONED ART:

it’s fine metalcore. nothing too special but nothing awful. some of the riffs here are actually pretty interesting but through the vast majority of this albums runtime you get what you expect when you throw on a modern metalcore album. it’s a decent way to spend 40mins but you can direct your attention to any other metalcore record that’s even kind of unique. 6.3/10

Guilt Trip: God Forgives:

a quick simple hardcore EP. super heavy, with punchy breakdowns and awesome vocals. just a simple good heavy time. that being said, it sounds like every other hardcore record. as someone who is still getting into hardcore music as a whole, i’m personally not tired of it but i understand someone not really vibing with this for that reason. 8/10

Wolfchant: Echoes of a Time Once Past

pretty unique music!!! it has elements of power metal and death metal which is a combo i very rarely see, but it works in this case. it’s pretty damn heavy and has some solid riffage throughout. the vocals are stellar, nice and raw screams and weirdly solid cleans despite them sounding “off.” it wasn’t anything too great but i enjoyed it enough for what it is. 8/10

Converge: Love Is Not Enough:

goddamn these boys never fail to deliver. it’s heavy as fuck chaotic metalcore. when you hear the phrase “new converge album” you want it to sound like this album does. every moment feels like an ass beating, and it leaves you wanting more in the best way possible. 9/10

Holy Wars: Ceremony:

im usually not too huge on this band, but i love this song. it’s super cool and catchy, sounding like the usual alt metal that they have, but it brings in heavier moments and harsh vocals that i adore. this is just a fun catchy banger of a song. 8/10

Knocked Loose & Denzel Curry: Hive Mind:

this is one of the coolest songs i’ve ever heard. it’s like you took bring the noise and brought it to the modern era of metal and hip hop. it’s absolutely amazing, stupid heavy and stupid fun. people say it’s disjointed and while i can see that critique, i feel it works and it works *really* well. good luck to any single this year competing with this, this might be a lock for song of the year. 10/10

ILLENIUM & Bring Me The Horizon: Slave to the Rithm

a fun single that combines the best of both artists. hearing oli scream over harsh electronic sounds was really cool. nothing super special or inventive but any cool blend of metalcore and electronic music is always fun. 8/10

KMFDM: ENEMY

solid industrial music. super dancy with a great message throughout it. i love the variety here, there’s elements of reggae, rock, ska, and obviously metal here. some songs are better than others, it does feel like it has some filler but overall i enjoyed it. 7.5/10

Ends in Tragedy & Dance: A Dance, a Tragedy:

this is one of my favorite hardcore EPS ever now. this is fucking insane. really leans into that amazing mathcore sound but also taps into old school underoath style of music. chaotic and heavy, and ridiculously cool. where ever these two bands play live is where i want to be. 9.5/10

Skulltruckers Motherfuckers: Skulltruckers Motherfuckers Mot Verden - undertittel: FUCK YOU:

despite the crazy ass name, this album kind of sucks. it does live up to its name, it’s absolutely insane to listen to, jumping from normal metal riffs to saxophone to spoken word to piano to awful high pitched yelling in single songs. problem is, it just doesn’t work. it doesn’t feel right or flow and the whole thing comes off as annoying and try hard. i wanted better from a band called skulltruckers motherfuckers. 3.5/10

Shatterheart: Infernal Symphony

deeply mediocre symphonic metal. extremely generic song writing, with decent but slightly pitchy vocals, and absolutely nothing else. i did like some of the songs but a couple of them were just extremely awkward and did not work well at all. 5.5/10

I Am Mook: Hollow Allegory:

now this is just silly deathcore in the best way. this ep has the most overblown production, dumbass samples, and ridiculous breakdowns i’ve heard in a long time. it’s just stupid music for low IQ people. naturally i happened to really enjoy it. 8.5/10

TRAN: Escuro Iridescence:

stunningly beautiful and weird prog metal. really cool clean guitar riffs that blend into the heavier riffs, awesome vocals both clean and the occasional harsh, and absolutely wacky sections of music. finding albums like these are why i love finding these small bands, you really never know what you’re going to get. 8.3/10

Armando de Castro & Barón Rojo: Hard Rock

incredibly dull and lifeless rock album. stock riffs, awful production, and AWFUL vocals. the only song i liked was Muñeco Hinchable which had really cool guitar work. everything else was incredibly basic and honestly boring as fuck. 3.7/10

Night Of The Vampire: The Enchanting Winds of the Dreamweaving Masquerade:

this is absolutely astounding. combining black metal vocals, riffs, and production style with a heavy use of bright keys makes for a shockingly danceable black metal record. it’s so unique and incredibly fun the whole way through. it’s so cool to have such a bright sounding black metal album that really feels so fun. if you like black metal but want something unique from the genre check this out. 9/10

Sleeping Giant: The Beauty of Obliteration:

this is a pretty strong death metal record. every song was nice and long and pretty damn slow. outside of that it’s extremely standard. there wasn’t anything crazy interesting but it was solid. the final track was 9mins and easily the best part of the record, really ambient too. 8.5/10
