Day 3: “Young Animals// Can You Miss The World?”

So it is a free-flowing punk rock vibing strut with cool riffs and drums. I do some cool vocal harmonies throughout. And play some tricks with the guitar. My favorite part of the song kicks in after the experimental bridge lulls a listener in. Day 2, “Markus’ Perpetual Summer”

I still hadn’t bought the bass, so I used midi and I think I came up with a pretty cool bass sound that comes in after the first chorus. The part of the track I am most proud of is the lead guitar in the first verse. To me, it sounds like it is alive and breathing. The title came from the feeling I had finally being done with school. I was asking myself, “Is this my last summer with no obligations?” and also, “What do I do with myself with all this free time?” Last thing I want to mention is the breakdown before the last chorus, all the instruments besides the drum are with my mouth, and I still haven’t gotten over how that is possible with computers nowadays. This was the last song I recorded before moving recently, and it expresses my grandest fear of becoming a curmudgeonous hermit. You won’t be able to tell because I mix and mess with the sounds I record so much, but this song, like the rest you’ll hear this week, was recorded with a cheapo acoustic guitar. I also realized if I wanted the sound I had in my head, I would have to buy a bass guitar. So I went to a pawn shop and the guy gave me a sweet deal. I don’t think he knew what he had! BUT I DID. MWAHAHAR. It almost makes me feel like I have a band again! The drums will make you want to dance! The bass will make you want to move your hips! The song ends with the lyrics, “Hold you head up” chanted over and over and then I tell the listener or I guess everyone that I love them, and it’s because I do. more than that : if you see a girl being harassed, she won’t always have that reflex. So YOU go and tell her : “Hiiii (insert random name here) I didn’t see you ! what are you doing here ? So glad to see you, come sit with me”. I promise you the girl won’t think twice before going with you. I was with friends in a late night tramway once, everyone was drunk and tired, and there was a girl all alone in the seat facing ours. She minded her own business, finishing the sauce of an empty french fries carton. Two drunk guys show up and sit on each side of her, telling her that she shouldn’t eat that, that she will get fat, that it would be a shame to let such a pretty body go fat, and a various number of disgusting things. So I said “hey Julie, why are you letting those douchebags annoy you, come back, sit with us.” She looked at me and immediately changed sides to sit with us. The guys were surprised, saying “she’s your friend ?!” and I just replied “yes, and you’re annoying her right now.” I stayed with her until she got out of the tramway safe. When you’re being harassed it’s sometimes very hard to think straight and find a quick way to react, so I encourage everybody to do this if you see another woman being harassed. Pretend you know her, and that she’s your friend. Let her know you’re here to side with her and protect her. Help girls be safe.
