A short Guide to Dragon Body Language

Neutral. Posture is high, a reassured dragon.

Respectful, submissive. Dragon keeps their head, wings, and tail low to show they are not a threat; makes them appear smaller.

Aggressive, on the attack. Wings spread in full, jaws open to show teeth. Often accompanied by roaring.

Defensive, threat. Wings spread, jaws open. Legs in a wide stance in preparation to fight if needed. Tail thrashes. Often accompanied by growls or roars.

Fearful, submissive. Legs tucked together and tail below the body. Head is held low. Often accompanied by ‘whimpers’ or low, non-threatening growls.

Happy, elated. Tip of the tail wags, wings may flap or legs may do ‘happy stompies’. Occasionally snorts.

Relaxed. Also known as the, “Pancake.” Dragon senses no threat and shows no signs of aggression or defensiveness. Dragon may stretch out across the ground.

Curious, playful, excited. Legs tucked to hide away claws, wings not spread. Tip of tail may wag. Dragon is observant to read the situation or other dragon’s body language.

(Mostly applicable to true dragons, wyverns, drakes, and lung dragons).
