            ❝ Ah, I thought you were a FOREIGNER ! ❞ Delight present in onyx orbs as soon as the new guy’s name introduced ; glad that he wasn’t the only one here with the same ethnicity. The blond hair was not a giveaway since he really expected the man to be an American or something. Hand reached up to scratch the back of his neck, apologizing. He didn’t really want the man to feel uncomfortable around him. ❝ Sorry, it’s been too long since I met another Japanese … I was in Arizona before, a long time ago. Exchange student program. Have you been … ?❞

      As by estimate, they should be there within ten to fifteen minutes tops. God, he was hungry but he could still hold it in. Heiwajima seemed the quiet type though, looking throughout the window all the time. Well, that he could work with ; Shiro appreciated the silence somehow. 

            ❝ No problem, Heiwajima-san. ❞

Shizuo blinks, rather startled by the other’s excitement over finding out his Japanese heritage. He furrows his eyebrows in thought; Does he really look like a foreigner that much? He does dye his hair blond and he’s rather tall, but he’s pretty certain his looks are, well, Asian.

“That is fine,” Shizuo answers the other man then, shrugging his shoulders, “I guess the blond hair is a bit misleading.” He shakes his head then, trying to think of where Arizona is located really, though he knows that it’s somewhere not Japan. “I have never been,” he says, finding himself a little bit curious, “is the place nice?”

         It was such an understatement to be honest. She just witness a human, a mere human, crush an iron sign with his bare fist–something a normal human can ever do. Curiosity was there but yet she found herself thinking what for at this matter, she wasn’t here to understand human after all. 

          “ Do you really need to? I don’t understand the motivation for the urge to find a replacement for it. “

          Humans are weird, most of them let themselves be controlled and dependent on papers with numbers written on it. She knew it was called ‘ money ‘ but she doesn’t understand how a piece of paper holds so much power. 

That... is not the reaction he expects. Shizuo almost wants to laugh; such nonchalance! It’s refreshing, in a way that he doesn’t even manage to really fathom. The blond’s shoulders relax then, rubbing the back of his neck a bit sheepishly. “Yeah. I did.”

“Hmm, the authorities usually want it paid,” he says, as a way of explanation. “And replaced.”

“Mmhmm, no problem. While we walk can I ask you for an Identification? I do need to report you unfortunately before we arrive at the office.” He smiles awkwardly- he hated this part of the job. “Sorry its just my duty.”

A low sigh escapes the blond. Guess he has to endure the progression, anyway. Well, his mother has taught him to be a law abiding citizens, and if this is the law, then, well, who is he to complain?

“Right,” Shizuo lets out, clucking his tongue as he digs his wallet from his pocket, taking out his identity card. “The name’s Heiwajima Shizuo.”

      A nod acknowledged request as Shiro walked pass the ‘ new guy ’ ( he was rather glad that he wasn’t the only new guy in the island, but since he hadn’t pass territories yet, he’d name the blond just like that ) out of the complex. He called for a taxi and motioned for the man to follow while he thought about treating his neighbor of the fare ; a small thing since he earned his first salary, a good reason to celebrate it through a delicious breakfast. 

            ❝ Sorry, I still don’t know how to navigate here so I called for a cab. Hope you didn’t mind, ❞ Shiro filled in the silence, back laid on the car’s leather cushion. He could call upon Black anytime, of course, but he wouldn’t know what to do with a giant space robot lion and where to park her ; she’d get irritated and humiliated for such small thing. 

         ❝ I’m Takashi Shirogane, by the way. I’ll pay for it, don’t worry. ❞

Shizuo follows the other guy easily enough with steady steps. Perhaps it’s the years spent with following Tom-san around as his bodyguard, but the position is comfortable enough that Shizuo feels a bit like falling into old habits. Upon noticing the cab, though, the blond blinks, crushing what is left of his cigarette and throwing it to the nearby trash bin. Can’t do to smoke in a car with air conditioner, after all.

“It’s okay,” Shizuo mumbles to the other guy, hands in his pockets as he sits, eyes trained on the road outside of the cab. At the other’s introduction, though, the blond glances at the white haired guy’s way, nodding in acknowledgement.

“Heiwajima Shizuo,” a pause, and then, “and... thanks.”

Yukari was debating on buying something for him. She wanted to pay him a visit and bring something sweet that they can both share. However she’s seen him often getting something rather on the bitter side. Something less sweet. So here she was, trying to figure out which wasn’t too sweet. She might have also been staring at the cheesecake for too long because she was debating if it was sweet or not.

Apparently someone saw her staring at it for too long as well.

She looked up, seeing a rather tall blond man referring to her. She glanced at the cake and shook her head. She smiled ❝Oh no, feel free to take it. I’m afraid it might be too sweet for the person I’m giving it too.❞

Too sweet? He’ll call blasphemy. No sweets is too sweet. But then again, Shizuo does have a sweet tooth. Shinra did mention his teeth will rot faster than he could blink--which is the very definition of exaggeration like everything the underground doctor is--if he eat sweets like Shizuo eats his.

Whatever. The trick is in aftercare. Brush your teeth, people, geez.

Nodding in acceptance over what the other said, making sure to mutter out a short ‘thank you’ her way, Shizuo raises his hand to notify the waitress. “Excuse me,” he points at the cake he’s been eyeing before, “I would like to buy this.”

Kikineri turns to the voice, enjoying the last inhale of his cigarette before it was to be put out. He pulled it out and blew the smoke out his nose, turning his head away for a second so it wouldn't float in front of the civilians face- that would be rude.

“Ah, thank you for reporting it. though you’d have to go to the office if you want to pay a fine. I can lead you there if you don’t know the way~” He smiled, he noticed the sign earlier this morning and sent a report in but there was no evidence to know who did it. At least someone was honest about it.

Well, that’s a rather easy acceptance. Shizuo would be lying if he said he wasn’t surprised; while the police force in Ikebukuro knows better, he has actually let himself think that he’ll face some pretty shitty procedures and questioning in this town, particularly of the reasons as to why the street sign was suddenly bent that way.

Though he’s heard that Talia is apparently a bit supernatural and shit, not that he’ll know about such a thing explicitly, since Shizuo doesn’t really care about such a thing, so that’s probably why.

“Sure,” the blond nods briskly, “thank you, uh... Officer.”

Upon the suggestion of his ever energetic classmate– Ash, Hakuba did want to try the Talia chat room and he met some people there. Sometimes he felt that Kuroba and Miss Hatter was right about taking breaks for once. All the cases he worked are considered neutral and not much has happened interestingly.

If his idiot ( he’s looking at you Kaito ) of a former schoolmate decided to crash in the party like the last time, he won’t be surprised. Hakuba was surprised he’s making friends himself that he’s not sure if he’d consider Kuroba as his friend.

“Almost done,” Hakuba said, nodding after he checked himself in the mirror. Watson was patiently perched on her ‘cage’. He was set to meeting this ‘blueshi’ person– he doesn’t mind being friends with him.

“Watson, behave will you?” The detective said to his falcon as she remained indifferent about it. The bird just gave a loud squawk in response, after hearing Hakuba’s usual lecture. Watson then flew off into the skies. 

“There she goes,” Hakuba watched the bird flew gracefully until she was gone. The detective heard a door bell ring. The detective assumed that ‘blueshi’ is here with the food.

“Coming, coming.” Walking briskly, he opened the door to see the blond man with the food he saw in chat. “Sorry, I’m a bit late. Are you… ‘blueshi’?”

He hasn’t really expected a teenager, though looking back, Shizuo guesses that kids these days do mature rather early. Either with excellent upbringing or shitty condition, there is no inbetween. For him, it was the latter, with his strength that he had despised and the troubles that kept on coming towards him. For Hakuba, well, let’s hope it is the former rather than the latter.

“Yep,” the blond answers, feeling a bit of a crave for a cig. “The name’s Heiwajima Shizuo. Just call me whatever you want,” as long as the teen stays polite. They aren’t in the comfortable sort of companionship yet after all; unless Hakuba is like Shinra in ways that there is nothing called ‘respect’ or ‘personal boundaries’ in that small head of his, which is a bit unlikely considering what he’s seen in the chat room. “Should I just call you Hakuba or would you prefer something else?”

Yo, @ekodadetective​, there’s a man with FOOD outside!!

That’s quite a long way to get to this place, Shizuo muses, shifting his feet a little bit as he rechecks his phone yet once again after he rings the bell to a certain room. He hasn’t really bothered to really venture Talia, so this is a great chance to motivate him to actually let himself walk around a bit. Though Shizuo has never been someone who gives food out to people other than the ones he’s good friends with--mostly because why would anyone want to accept anything from the Heiwajima Shizuo? No one, that is--so this is an entirely new experience for him.

He has no one he knows of beforehand, that’s why he tries to make an effort to actually get to know someone. It gets excruciatingly lonely sometimes; his only good graces are that he’s still able to make phone calls and chat with his friends back in Ikebukuro. Shinra has been irritating, as usual.

He can only hope this one effort doesn’t end badly. This Hakuba guy doesn’t sound like a bad person in the chatroom, at the very least.

....He hopes he hasn’t gotten to the wrong room, though. That would be an awkward experience.

      The man was just locking up his apartment when there’s was something in the air, smelling like nicotine and trouble. He followed the scent, eventually connecting to a cigarette butt on the fingers of another guy, blond and taller a few inches than him. 

            ❝ You’re the new guy, ❞ Shiro pointed out, hand on his hip as he turned to face the person. It would be rude not to. He just also arrived here and haven’t seen familiar faces beside from Keith’s, so it would be good to establish connections with neighbors in the complex. ❝ It’s fine, I’m also new here. FUKUOKA is a good place to eat, I heard. There’s traditional Japanese cuisine as well as Western and Eastern cuisines are provided. I was about to go there myself for a good breakfast. Would you want to join me ? ❞ 

At the first sentence the other guy utters, his eyebrow involuntarily twitches, but Shizuo says nothing, simply choosing to patiently listen to what the other has to say next. It can be said that he’s not disappointed; the other guy is pretty decent at the moment, he supposes, since at least he hasn’t pissed off the ex-bartender just yet.

And his way of talking reminds Shizuo of Tom-san too, so that’s probably another variable that causes him to stay nonchalant. Besides, the guy’s in the same place as him. Better not make an enemy out of a neighbor. He won’t want another flea to suddenly pop out in this new place (not that there’s any other flea that can defeat Izaya in terms of mutual hatred, but he digresses), after all.

“Japanese’s good,” he says then, because nothing can beat the good ol’ Japanese cuisine. Just like no restaurants can ever really beat his mother’s cooking. “Lead the way, please.”

The guilt eats him up a little bit. So, a certain crushed street sign is left behind, and he hasn’t exactly gotten any notice from the police that asks for some fine regarding his destruction of public facilities. Then he remembers that the police here doesn’t know him like the police of Ikebukuro, and ends up walking toward the one police office he’s seen in passing.

“Uh,” is his smart conversation starter to one of the police officers, “I’m here to... pay?” He scratches his cheek, “I destroyed a street sign a few days ago.”

While this place isn’t as bad as Ikebukuro--not that Ikebukuro is bad, it’s simply filled with Yakuza, gangs and other troublesome shit he’d rather not deal with--he has to change his opinion over that the place is completely safe.

Of course, no place is completely safe. And no place is completely able not to piss him off either. Trying to mug him is one thing, trying to hit his head with a metal pipe in their efforts to take his money is another.

His logic goes like this: if they hit his head, he’s going to bleed, and if they hit his head hard enough, there’s a chance he’s going to die. Because they hit his head with metal, that means they are aiming to kill right? That means they want him to die for a single wallet, right?

SO IF HE FIGHTS BACK, IT’S OKAY, RIGHT?!

They end up getting thrown to the wall, and if the government or anyone else wants that wall repaired, those thugs are going to pay for it, not him. He doesn’t give a shit. It’s their own damn fault. Mouth twitching at the sight of another person coming--is it the police or another thug, he doesn’t give a damn anymore--Shizuo shouts.

“What do you want, huh?! Wanna try to mug me like those bastards, too, haaaa?!”

There’s only one blueberry cheesecake left.

Now, don’t mistake that Heiwajima Shizuo, with his nicotine consummation and all of that, means that he doesn’t like sweets. Oh no, nobody can be as wrong as that, because he likes sweets. Marvels in it. If it is socially acceptable to swim in cream he would, but that’s not allowed and it’s dirty too so he’ll settle with eating them in large amounts.

The point is, there is only one blueberry cheesecake left in this small bakery.

With the intensity to which he’s staring at it, one can say that his eyes are practically glued to it. However his gaze soon turns to the girl next to him, who seems to want it too, maybe, perhaps, he doesn’t really know.

Shizuo stares at the cake.

“...You can have it.”

It was a mere bout of frustration, really. A certain bespectacled doctor had called him and managed to piss him off even when they’re miles away. He didn’t mean to crush a street sign with his bare hands, honest. He really didn’t mean to.

Staring at the person on the other side of the street, Shizuo awkwardly shuffles his feet. Damn, and here he thinks he’s gotten a pretty good hold on his temper lately. Figures there finally comes a time when he snaps. Releasing his hold on the street sign--in which it is now bent rather awkwardly--the ex-bartender rubs the back of his head.

“Uh... I’ll pay for the replacement?”

“Hey,” Shizuo mutters, sounding nonchalant and completely at ease despite his contrasting thoughts. He’s not exactly keen on talking to strangers, mostly because what if they piss him off? People better not piss him off, but he’s pretty sure his REPUTATION hasn’t reached this place. Flicking his cigarette’s ash away, he sighs.

“...Sorry for bothering you. I want to ask if you know any good and cheap place to eat.”
