i personally hc that ronal had been experiencing dreams/visions of things to come ( though with a notable lack of context as to why + how ) for months before uturu was asked -- which is why the sullys were greeted. . . . like they were.

it's not so much a dislike of THEM but rather what their arrival means for the metkayina as a whole, the era of relative peace ( as much as can be had with the rda presence on the planet ) coming to an abrupt end. and with the death of her spirit sister ? yet another omen, ronal can see the mirror of her own fate in the glossy reflection of ro'a's unseeing eyes -- her own child in the way sister's calf floats limply in the water.

the despair that is cannot be stopped or avoided.

" I FEAR WE WILL NOT SURVIVE THIS. "

#the great mother's will is not necessarily to be understood by the tsahik but to be HEARD. to be SEEN.#and the concept of ' no fear ' does not negate the emotion itself but is to inspire the people to rise ABOVE that fear with trust in eywa.#if eywa has willed it to be so then it will be so and no one knows this better than a tsahik.#ooc.#headcanon.

neytiri's words hang thickly between the pair, lingering in the billows of herb-sweet smoke wafting from the central fire of the tsahik's marui -- ronal's gaze flicks upwards to the heavens, sharpening to heed the woman's ominous mutterings.

would that she could confirm those suspicions, assure neytiri that she is RIGHT -- the stars were moving without precedence, dancing in their positions as told in the days of the first songs. confirmation that this is NOT reality, that this is all some distant, tortuous dream and she is soon to be awoken in a wash of sweat and relief from the ache eroding her heart and her sanity.

BUT IT IS NOT TO BE.

and WHERE is toruk makto, if not here to comfort his mate ? if the whispers amongst the people are to be believed ? gathering weapons of metal to ensure retribution, going so far as to free dive the demon ship to gather the very poison that murdered HIS HER son.

and THEREIN lies the source of ronal's ire--

Using my finger btw...

I've been struggling to paint these days because of my depression.

Recently I decided to watch the Avatar films with my husband and felt very inspired to make some fanart. I started to paint on my pc but we've been having a lot of power outages which slowered the process a lot.

So I made this quick painting on my phone and loved both the process and the result. It felt like a breath of fresh air after so many weeks of feeling unmotivated to paint.

Anyway, here's the process 😁

me getting WAY too into the physical science of the avatar movies.

i always wonder how spider's bone mass would compare to the earth-born humans given the canonical divergences in pandora's atmosphere vs earth. if he would have the osseous hallmarks of the post-atomic age through parentage or if it would be entirely absent due to a total lak of exposure to earth's atmosphere. ( having this answer irl would be groundbreaking science because it would tell us if the universe as a whole was effected by the discovery of nuclear fission or if those effects were isolated within earth's atmosphere )

and then the flux vortex in the cove of the ancestors -- it takes 50-100 gray to fry traditional electric circuitry ( for funsies, that's the equivalent of 71K x-rays on the low end, and 7 MILLION on the high end. ) while i'm sure the rda have their equipment and armor outfitted with SOME type of radiological barrier to ARS and failure, the na'vi almost certainly do not. i wonder if pandora's thin atmosphere ( and therefore less ability to filter the natural radiation that occurs from the sun ) influenced their genetics in such a way that they feel little to no effects from long-term, high-dose radiation exposure.
