i've been writing satoshi in his 20s since day one, rule of thumb regarding ships is just ask.
even if you don't read everything in the dossier or the study tag, please note that my portrayal of satoshi has a lot of embellishments of implied canon, disregardings of some canon, & alterations from small to big regarding prominent canon (from league placements & league events, to satoshi wearing red instead of blue & growing out his hair post!show, as well as having a different voice claim 1-2 years post!show due to undergoing hrt). due to legal reasons he belongs to gamefreak/tpc, due to Personal reasons he has become my oc <3

Hau silently chews on his snack as Satoshi explains some possible reasons for the headaches. He might have a point there.
"Bad at controlling their powers, huh... But what kind of mental powers would Bulu give me? Talking to plants?"
Do plants even speak? Grass-types sure did, but actual plants? No idea. They stare at the ceiling of the treehouse for a bit, lost in thought.
"I guess we won't know why until something happens, huh? Kinda cryptic and all, but I don't think Bulu would elaborate, even if they knew what's going on with me."
The Tapu had been mostly absent during this process. Probably wouldn't be any different for Tapu Bulu. Hau sighs small, before stuffing the last bits of the current malasada into his mouth.
"Better not to dwell on it too much... It'll only make it worse, anyway." A light chuckle. "...Do you think I can come with next time you travel back home? Got nothing planned for a bit."
an affirming hum, all for not overthinking any matter, as satoshi relaxes fully into the sofa, idly scratching at pikachu's jaw. he perks up at hau's question. ❛ of course !! i still don't have any plans after the league season, but checking in on everyone at home is a pretty good one. ❜
should probably let his mama know ahead of time, even if she's a fast cook & always makes enough for a small army anyhow. not that he knows for certain when they might show up ; the date of the final day has little bearing on travel plans, in satoshi's experience.
❛ then again, there's some travel between the airport & masara town — who knows what interesting stuff could pop up on the way ?? ❜ maybe they'll run across a tournament or two. he'll have just done loads of battling, on top of all the training he is doing currently, but satoshi already feels that he will itch for a good ol' fashioned bracket fight after the league. this season can't possibly go worse than his elite debut ( he's gotten all his bad luck out in the championships, surely ) , but he still doesn't feel completely steady in his new role.
he's unsure if he wants to claw his way through the world championships again, but maybe a smaller event would help ... something. certainly couldn't hurt any.
it is thundering like the sky is pissed off & i am once again thinking abt how comfortable satoshi feels during storms, pavlov'd into easing at the sight of lighting & sound of thunder.
taking in hikozaru was almost the breaking point of satoshi & takeshi’s friendship. takeshi thought taking in a pokémon like that was how an unconventional trainer got themself killed by said pokémon ( he already held some reservations from how satoshi dealt with lizardon in its rebellious phase ) & satoshi was still an arrogant brat with a contrastingly massive heart who'd already begun dissociating from his own mortality while never really caring about his own well-being above a pokémon's before & refusing to start then. it really was only satoshi proving that he could raise hikozaru into a goukazaru better than shinji ever could that made takeshi ease up, but by then much of the damage had already been done, & he'd already decided separately that he wanted to shift his focus towards being a pokémon doctor thus would need to part ways with satoshi.
they're still practically brothers but the topic of abused/aggro pokémon rehabilitation is still more than a little sore when both are in present company. in any case, satoshi's purposefully omitted talking too much about the pre-catch times of a fair number of his pokémon when talking to takeshi in recent years. takeshi kind of understands everything without saying & lets them both pretend they don't have any issues.
been rewatching ted lasso for the dozenth time coz ive needed some of that goodfeel, i already had ted on my lil "6 characters/ppl you take muse inspo from" thing but i once again got to "look, i understood this mission when we were in kansas. but those were kids & these are professionals, & winning does matter to them. & it matters to me. & that's okay. [..] how do you not get it?? losing has repercussions. we lose, we get relegated. we get relegated, this is over & we will have built nothing. & if you wanna pick a player's feelings over a coach's duty to make a point… i don't wanna drink with someone that selfish.",, now i am once again thinking about satoshi & both kasumi & takeshi whenever they were traveling during league season. honestly especially sinnoh. but i am always thinking about satoshi & takeshi in sinnoh so that's nothing special.

i cant think abt satoshi re sexuality for more than 2sec bc i start to collapse onto my desk coz his brain operates on "surely Everyone's basically in love with all their best friends right??" & he still doesn't know any of the label names or flags
thinking about satoshi & absol. they are the same in many ways, including having their own agendas & only really sticking with others out of convenience & peeling away the moment their paths are no longer aligned — satoshi going off on his own adventures, absol going off to avert trouble wherever it crops up, why satoshi struggles to settle down for the longterm, why absol is only satoshi's pokémon for as long as it is an active member of his roster.
rotating how satoshi's current constant trio are all pokémon that he has a kind of symbiotic relationship with,, satoshi & pikachu with their from-day-one bond & separation anxiety, satoshi & lucario with their aura bond & codependence, satoshi & absol with their bond of circumstance in being drawn to disaster & an exchange of battle strength. all of satoshi's dynamics with his roster are symbiotic at their core, of course, an exchange of love & strength on all fronts, but those three are the strongest, these days, & the one with absol the most strictly of the sort in regards to satoshi — it doesn't have the kind of part-of-one's-soul bond that the other two have with the trainer, though it has grown fond of him, — if it ever leaves his active roster for "an undetermined amount of time", it will simply leave him. in a way, it's much like a combination of gekkouga & numelgon, a strong sense of duty with more care for being a protector than a tournament-fighter, using structured battling only as a tool for bettering its aptitude for this duty.
it genuinely catches satoshi off guard to be reminded he has fans & a fandom. supporters are one thing, all his friends are supporters, a bunch of colleagues & his hometown, sure, but like. fans???? people who don't even know satoshi as so much as an acquaintance, have maybe met him all of once in passing, who nonetheless follow majority of his matches & actively hunt for news about him??? people who go to tournaments he's in to cheer for him in person????? it's bizarre to him. he's literally just some guy. that's so strange. his opponents are much more fan-having material aren't they??? haha anyway.
thinkin abt how smart satoshi is again. like he's an idiot but he's not stupid. he's often naive & clueless, & he's pretty gullible if he feels no reason to believe he's being lied to, & he definitely doesn't have aptitude for traditional schooling & academia. but he's smart!! he loves learning, he's got a knack for split-second analysis, he's got great intuition based on very few experiences, he forms theories & tests them & actively adjusts for error, he absorbs abstract concepts readily, learns languages fast through exposure, remembers nearly anything he pays attention to which is almost always pokémon related, that's not even getting into how much he's learned about the pokémon he's encountered— smart cookie. & even though he does struggle with learning in some formats, he loves learning anyhow!! always eager to try, anyhow. trivia, history, biology, geology, a skill, a sport, a method, a song, anything, everything, satoshi loves learning, all things broadening his horizons & thus making him a better trainer.
The familiar scent of malasadas present, Hau quickly opens the bag and glances inside. One of them is offered to Hibi first, who gladly (and carefully) drops his crayon on the ground, before taking the treat. Hau himself reaches for the second one (but not before thanking the two), eagerly taking a bite.
A smile forms on their features as they listen to Satoshi talk with a fiery passion about his battles. It always gives him a happy feeling when people are so passionate about things.
"Sounds like you had a good day, heh. You better bring me along next time, even if it's just to spectate. Have I met Dracovish yet?" Another bite of the pastry, simply enjoying the flavours for a bit. "...Wonder if I'm faster still." A mumble, thinking to himself out loud.
They go silent after that, at least for a little bit, lost deep in thought.
"My day was kinda boring." A frown and a pout. "I just don't get it. Why is this happening after Bulu's berry stuff? There must be a correlation between that and my headaches, I just don't get what."
there's a lot of satoshi's pokémon that hau hasn't seen, which he thinks is a damn shame. he gives them a nudge where shoulders meet. ❛ you gotta visit the lab some time — i've got too many pokémon to bring 'em all to alola, but it would be cool if you could meet them all. ❜ it's really just another reason to tack onto the already existing list for dragging hau all the way to masara town, but that would have to wait for until the guy's good to travel again. maybe after the league season wraps up. or before people start challenging the elite four, if there's time & hau's well.
the topic of the headaches brings satoshi to hum in thought, half crossing his arms, looking at his remaining sandwich like it might give him an answer. food fuels the brain, right ??
❛ mmm ... you got new powers after dealing with the other tapu, yeah ?? well, maybe it's something psychic this time around. ❜ of the guardians, tapu bulu is the one satoshi knows the least about, ability - wise, but he has to figure brain stuff would be telepathy stuff, or maybe telekinesis, though hau kind of already has that last covered.
❛ my brain sometimes gets all tingly when i connect with a pokémon — oh !! & psyduck get constant headaches 'cause they're bad at controlling their powers !! ❜ granted, kasumi's koduck, for one, never seems to know what's going on, even after it's just used its power, but maybe that's why their headaches are so bad : they don't know what's going on & don't know how to fix it. golduck don't seem to have the same problem, probably because they're usually smarter, too. evolution & all that.
