Laughing she shook her head “No it’s ok” she assured him, waving her hand. “Oh.. Yeah totally. I’m almost done, I was just messing around and probably sounded off to be honest” she joked as she started to get up. “Yeah? You wouldn’t mind doing that for me?” she smiled at him. “That would be really helpful and I can help you out in return if you want with whatever you have to work on.”

Michael smiled, nodding his head in confirmation at her words. “No yeah for sure. No problem. It gets me on the piano that much faster, and it gives me a chance to warm up, and it gives you a chance to actually focus on what you need to focus on. It’s totally a win-win...er...win” He said with a small laugh and a shrug of his shoulders. Taking a seat on the bench, he glanced up and smiled. “Just let me know when you’re ready for me to start playing.” He said with a nod.

When Michael brought his arms around her, Daphne sank into the piano seat beside him; allowing herself to be submersed in him for a moment before wrapping her own arms around him. The tears that had been welling in her eyes upon approaching him had yet to fall; simply focusing on being in his arms as she clasped her small arms around his waist. She could already feel Michael crying, throughout his body for a few dreadful moments, before feeling his tears on her shoulder. She gripped him tighter, trying to create some sort of support; her own tears only falling at the sound of his voice. A small sob eased from her, the sound of her name on his voice stirring more emotions than she anticipated. “I can’t believe you’re here. — I–I can’t believe you’re here.” She murmured, running her hands over his back frantically for a few seconds and pulling back to see him face, only managing to repeat the same words again when she did.

There was a million different things that Michael had wished he could have said to Daphne ever since she’d been torn away from him, and as he held her tightly, all of those things came rushing back to him in a jumbled mess, but each with the piercing clarity of a brand new revelation. “ I...” He began, before stopping, and shaking his head. “I...” He tried again, but for the second time, he stopped himself before anymore could come out. Each time he opened his mouth to speak, it was to say the thing he had deemed to be most important, only for something else to pop up in his mind, as though pleading it’s case for it’s own importance. He tried this a couple more times before, on the last attempt, he was hit with the urge not to speak, but to act, and before he had time to stop himself or think about what he was doing, he leaned in and placed a passionate kiss against her lips, as means to say all of the things that his voice couldn’t seem to. In the back of his mind, he knew that there would be consequences for this action, but those, and the excruciating pain that came with them, could (and would) be faced later.

her pen lightly doodled along the table cloth, all sorts of things, penny wasn’t actually paying attention to what she was doing, her mind was somewhere else, a romantic comedy perhaps, in where the guy shows up, and they live happily ever after.  penny wasn’t promised the ever after, but she would’ve been fine with happy. her heart ached, and she felt if she moved an inch, it would break, and then probably shatter. the chuckle from across the way, snapped her out of her thoughts, her gaze falling onto his doodles, a light smile on her lips, “i like them” she offered, continuing to peek over at his cartoon doodles, “i’ve never been good at cartoons, or music” she offered, going back to her own doodle, only to be interrupted by the food being placed before them, “oh yeah” having forgot for a second where she was, and why. her eyes going to the food that was placed before them, “hungry?”

Michael smiled appreciatively at her words, getting the feeling that she actually meant what she said, and wasn’t just saying it to make him feel better about his lack of art skills. He was going to open his mouth to respond, but the arrival of the food caused that intention to be forgotten. He glanced over at Penny, holding his breath as he tried to gauge how she was reacting to this, before he exhaled, feeling a bit relieved that she didn’t seem to upset by it. Biting his lip a bit at her question, before he slowly nodded his head. “Starving.” He admitted with a small chuckle, before he gave a small shrug of his shoulders and exhaled a sigh. “Man..I hate to give the guy any praise or credit after flaking, but...he clearly knew what he was doing when it came to choosing the menu cuz...agh...this looks really good.” He added reluctantly.

Perhaps meeting with Michael was a rash and frankly, stupid idea. Daphne knew that nearly all of her actions were being monitored but the last thing she had expected was for Michael to start attending the very school she was sent to at the beginning of Freshmen year— especially with how adamant their parents had been about them not being able to see each other— and if her father was so stupid as to somehow let it happen, then she was stupid enough too. Approaching the music room, Daphne peered at her texts one last time. She wanted to verify (for the tenth time) that he had, in fact, told her to meet him. As she got nearer, she could already hear his playing. Hesitating, her fingers trembling slightly when she loosely gripped the doorknob, she sucked in a careful breath before stepping inside.

Standing in the doorway for a few seconds, Daphne peered across the room in a look of awe, not completely believing her eyes when they insisted that it was truly Michael sitting there. She was almost relieved that he continued even when she made her way into the room, unsure what she would have said otherwise. Biting her lip, her steps felt light— her nerves causing her to feel somewhat weightless as she approached the piano. She could feel her heart sinking as he sang, and though she tried not to let it take over her emotions, her eyes welled as she grew nearer. She was standing next to him when he finally turned his attention to her, and she forced a grin despite her quivering lip. “Can I hug you?” She asked, her fingers idly running back and forth along the piano as though trying to distract from her own distress.

Her request caused Michael’s breath to catch in his throat, but he nodded his head slowly, wrapping his arms around her. He wasn’t entirely sure if it was the request itself, or the clear crack of emotion he heard in her voice, and the trembling lip that had caused him to react how he did, or if it was some mix of both, but he felt like he had to breathe heavier than usual as he held her tight; and it was only after a minute of this that he realized this was because he was crying, and that was what was forcing his body to breathe heavier. “Oh God, Daph.” He breathed out as tears rolled down his cheeks in waterfalls. There was so much more he wanted to say, so much more to be said, but no other words seemed to want to come from his mouth as he held her there.

Katya was sitting there running over her lines for R.E.N.T and was so exhausted after the week she had. Running her fingers through her hair she started playing on the piano and singing ‘Light my candle’ not paying any mind that someone walked in. As she finished she opened her eyes and jumped. “I did not see you sitting there, what are you up to?” she asked with a blushing smile.

Michael jumped when the girl did, laughing a bit as he shook his head. “Heh sorry. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to interrupt. I just came in here because I was hoping to use the piano when you were done with it.” He explained with an apologetic smile. “Take your time though. I don’t mind waiting. Or uh, if you want to practice just singing your part, I can play the piano part for you?” He offered with a small shrug.

“I get you.” Ezra replied with some amusement, wanting the other boy to know he wasn’t judging him. After all, he didn’t know a single person at Kingswood who wasn’t constantly biting off more than they could chew when it came to balancing academics and extracurriculars. He pouted out his lower lip just a bit and furrowed his brows as he listened to Michael self-deprecatingly admit that he’d been trying to save the piece he was working on for quite some time now and just hadn’t had any luck, to the point he was totally discouraged about it. “Maybe it’s not that it’s not good, it’s just that… it’s not its time yet.” Ezra added, trying to be helpful. “Sometimes shit just needs to be put on the shelf for a while, let it age a bit. Eventually its time will come.” He’d experienced a similar phenomena with songs he’d written in the past, so he figured it couldn’t be totally useless advice. ”I’m sure it can’t be all bad.”

Michael considered Ezra’s words, trying to decide whether he thought what he was suggesting was possible. It was true that the had been working on it for weeks...maybe it was just fatigue, and that he just needed to set it aside and come back to it later with fresh eyes like Ezra was suggesting. Nodding his head, he smiled. “Yeah. Yeah that actually could be it.” He replied. “Look at anything for too long and it’s going to drive you insane. That’s probably what happened here. And you’re right, I just gotta put it away and give me and it a break from each other.” Laughing a bit, he nodded appreciatively. “That’s pretty good advice. Can I assume you have some experience in the area of songwriting?” He asked curiously, always keen to find fellow musicians.

“thank you” she said kindly, looking away from him and at the table she had been sat at for quite some time, so long she began doodling on the table in fact. she didn’t know what to say, or what to do in a situation like this, she hadn’t told her mom and wasn’t planning on it after this. the silence didn’t bother penny, her doodling taking over for her lack of words, “i have another pen?” she offered after a moment, glancing up at him, “i just..” she trailed off letting out a deep breath in the process, “doodling helps me think” she smiled now, feeling bad she had asked him to stay and hadn’t single a word, “it’s blue” 

The silence between them didn’t bother Michael, especially since he could understand how difficult it would be to bring yourself to speak after such a devastating disappointment. So he didn’t try to break the silence, or force her to talk, but just watched with a small amount of admiration mingled with sadness as she doodled on the table cloth, which Michael hoped vindictively had been rented and that Isaac would have to pay for; not that he would have any trouble covering the costs, but the thought of the mild inconvenience it could cause the boy made Michael hope for it. He was a little surprised when she spoke, offering him an extra pen, but nodded his head graciously and leaned across the table to take it from her. “Thank you” he said softly, nodding his head at her explanation. He wasn’t a master artist by any stretch of the imagination, but he did enjoy doodling, and had even drawn his own comics when he was a kid, before the cello had taken over his life and time, so he understood how doodling could help free up the mind. He began drawing one of the characters from those comic books, his gaze lifting to Penny every so often. Looking from her doodles to his own, he couldn’t help but chuckle at the stark difference between her masterful designs and his cheesy cutesy cartoon. “Annnd this is why I got into music and not visual art.” He joked with a small shake of his head and a soft sigh.

Michael took the cello very seriously, and it was by far the thing he was best at; but it wasn’t the only instrument he played. He was also a highly proficient piano player, and although he hadn’t played at all in the months since everything that had happened with Cynthia, having been even more obsessively dedicated to the cello than usual since then, now face to face with the prospect of seeing Daphne at long last, he had decided to take a stab at re-familiarizing himself with the keys while trying to kill time and keep calm as he waited for her to show up at the agreed upon meeting time. His eyes were closed as he ran his hands across those keys, filling the room with the soft sounds of a quiet melody. Although it was a greater challenge for him in a literal sense due to not being as good at it, there was something easier about playing the piano than the cello; he didn’t feel the need to take it as seriously, instead being able to just enjoy himself as the played the music. As he heard the door to the room open from off to the side, he continued to play the song, if only to give himself another moment to prepare for the moment when he was finally looking into Daphne’s eyes again, and he gently sang the words.

“Cause I know I’ve seen you before Won’t you shine A little light On us now”

Concluding the piece with the best improvisation he could muster given his rust, he sighed, before lifting his gaze to the face he knew so well but hadn’t seen in over a year. Smiling a little, he gave a small shrug of his shoulders. “Any requests?” He asked softly.

“he’s not coming is he?” a sad realization she had realized the moment he was late, figured she’d stick around just in case, he was incredibly busy. the odd thing was that she hadn’t even cried, and when he mentioned going home, she looked up at him, “i’m not sure if i can move” her heart was in her throat, and she knew if she moved it’d fall to her stomach, and penny would crawl into a ball and die of sadness. wallowing, she’d be wallowing without her mom who didn’t even know about the date, and an already devastated penny did not need that talk with her mom tonight. “will you sit with me?” she asked politely, attempting her best smile.

Michael felt his heart break at Penny’s words, and there was a surge of anger that went through his body as he once again wondered how Isaac could do this to her, silently cursing the other boy for his negligence. Penny was the last person in the world who deserved to feel this way, and it made it worse that it was clear from the effort she’d put into her outfit that this had meant a lot to her. How could Isaac be so brainless as to forget something that clearly meant a lot to her?  After exhaling a sigh to release some of the frustration he was feeling, Michael’s eyes fell on her face, and nodded his head and gave her a soft smile  at her request. “Yeah. Yeah, of course I will.” He answered.

“God, I used to be so happy.” She said, looking at the photos in her hands. “I mean, I looked awful, but happy.” She looked up and put them back into the worn out jewelry box, breaking out of her trance. She quickly closed it and turned back to the other person, a smile back on her face. “Anyways, thanks for helping me unpack. I really didn’t think it would take me so long, but I guess I brought way more than I needed.”

Taking a peek at the picture she was looking at, Michael smiled. The girl in the photo really did look happy, although he couldn’t help but chuckle at her follow up statement, shaking his head. “You don’t look awful. That’s like, an awful exaggeration.” He replied, grinning, before he gave a small shrug of his shoulders. “Everyone has an awkward phase, and it always looks way worse to ourselves than it does to anyone else. You should really see pictures of me from before high school and I started going to the gym. That will make it pretty clear that your awkward phase really wasn’t that bad.” waving his hand dismissively at her thanks, Michael shook his head. “Nah no need to thank me. I just came here myself not long ago. I can still remember the pain that was trying to unpack everything on my own. I wasn’t about to let anyone else go through that if I could help it.” He laughed lightly.

It was hard to say whether Michael felt more angry, or sad as he stood there in his suit, watching Penny sit alone for a date that, it was becoming clearer as the minutes turned to hours, wouldn’t be showing up. Michael knew very well that Isaac was a busy individual with a lot on his plate, but how he had managed to forget that he’d asked Penny on this date, even after paying for people to set up the table in the clearing, paying the chef to prepare the food, and paying Michael himself to show up to the play the cello throughout dinner, Michael couldn’t really understand. Busy or not, it was a dick move, and it annoyed Michael to say the least; especially since he knew that Penny had been looking forward to this a great deal. Closing his cello away in it’s case, he stood there watching her sadly for a moment as he hesitated with whether he should go over and talk to her, although eventually, he opted to do so. Pulling off his suit jacket and hanging it off the back of his chair which was across the table from where Penny was sitting, he sank into it, exhaling a soft sigh. “So.. the waiter told me that the food will be out in about ten minutes but uh...you don’t have to stay you know.” He said softly with a small shake of his head. “You...you should go home, get into your pajamas, and eat some ice cream. I can stay. I can make sure everything gets cleaned up here.”

Michael: Mom had no choice. It was let me come or have to explain to Dad why she was denying him something he's wanted for years.

Michael: A few weeks.

“It’s... lame.. to say everyone isn’t it?” Michael laughed a bit, shaking his head. “Um I mean, I dunno. I’d say anyone out there who can get me to let loose a bit. I’m not sure who that might be, but I could really use someone like that. I honestly feel a bit like I’ve forgotten what fun looks like unless I’m hanging out with Jackson.”
