VIRAL INTERVENTIONS: FINAL ARTIFACT:
Student name: Michael Viciedo
Title: Remnants of Man vs Machine
Dimensions: Variable (board is 36” x 34”, while full piece is about 3’ x 4’ +).
Materials: Broomstick, pvc piping, cardboard, duct tape, purple fabric, small dolly, screws, zip ties, velcro, paper, markers, printed posters.
Statement of Intent:
After the day at Dolphin Mall where the group paraded around, and presented the piece to the public, we were left with a completely different work. The marks left on the piece by the public breathe new life into the work, and not only alter it, but give it new meaning. The marks themselves are evenly spread, with an almost equal amount of people believing the human work was AI and the AI work was human. The majority of people simply gazed over at the piece, and moved on with there life, not wanting to interact with it for their own reasons, some not even understanding English. The relative few people that took the time out of their days to make their mark on the piece. Those marks are now immortalized and show a turning point in art history, the point in which artificial intelligence is organic enough with its work to fool the common person into believing it is human. Overall, I feel that the artifact turned out about as well as I thought it would.

Statement of Intent:
This project was certainly something unexpected. From the first moment it was assigned, I felt my brain tingle and my heart drop. Such a large task to complete in such limited time… how would we ever go about it? Through brainstorming and creativity, my group cane up with the idea of creating an interacting guessing game style, public piece that conveyed our sentence. While I was extremely stressed out every moment of this project, I also feel that I learned a great deal about how to come up with interesting and meaningful ideas in a timely manner. I always say that limitation is the breed ground for creativity and innovation, and in this case, the deadline was our limitation. Coming up with a mobile, interactive piece checked all the boxes we needed to check, and solved many of our issues with the project in its stagnant state. Creating the base was an arduous task that, while tough and stressful, also proved to be highly knowledgeable. In the end, I feel that the piece came out just as planned, and I am happy with the interaction we got in the public showing of it… if I had more time to create this work, I would have used sturdier material and would have likely creating even more artworks so that the work would be mor ea visual spectacle then it ended up being.
VIRAL INTERVENTIONS: PROCESS
Student name: Michael Viciedo
After the final proposal for our VIRAL INTERVENTIONS project was accepted and critiqued, the group began taking the necessary steps to bring our vision to life.
We made exact measurements for the final project board, and rendered out a more detailed design which involved taking the initial project and making it mobile. This was achieved by using a small dolly, an old broom stick, some pvc piping, screws, cardboard, zip ties and more.
The actual abstract artwork for the project was created on our work day over the course of a few hours. The day before the work day, an AI generated our AI image, and we tried to create a similar abstract work. The AI image is below:
By the end of the process, the posters were printed, the base was created, and the piece all put together as seen below:
VIRAL INTERVENTIONS (PRODUCTION TASK LIST):
Title: Out of the Bag Planning
Basic/Estimated task list:
-Alec: Gather most materials
-Michael: Do most work on the poster art/text
-Amanda: Do most work when it comes to the hanging and executed of posters (though all group members will likely be present on the day of)
-Miguel: Do most of the data gathering and potentially gallery setup (again, likely all members will have somewhat of a hand in this).
VIRAL INTERVENTIONS (FINALIZED DRAFT/RENDER):
Student name: Michael Viciedo
Dimensions: Digital 3500px x 2500px
Materials: iPad with Procreate app and stylus.
Paragraph:
After altering and merging our group’s ideas, we came up with a concept that symbolically tackles the sentence we made while being possible to execute. The finalized proposal is that of an interactive “guessing game” piece. It would take the form of a series of 4 hung posters, not extremely small, like A4 paper, but not too large either, like a banner. Rough sizes for the posters are about 3’ x 2’, or 36” x 24” (though this can be changed last second to accommodate further design choices). The first two posters would be the largest, and would display abstract artwork, with one being hand-drawn digitally by an artist, and the other bring produced by and AI. The other two posters would have text on them with the words “EFFICIENCY” and “INTERACTIVITY”. The interaction comes into play when an individual walks up to the work and is greeted by a question such as “Which piece do you believe was created by a person?” And a second question “Which is more important?”. The first question pertains to the artworks and the second to the text. Viewer’s will be tasked with then marking the posters with a colored marker provided to them by us (given physically or propped up on a table). Depending on which options they guess/choose their mark will be left behind on the posters, in the end providing tangible, countable results and unique new artworks in their own right. The aftermath of the piece will leave the group with artifacts that have been altered/transformed by the people who have seen it. This pertains to our sentence “AI will shape the future, but it’s overuse could lead to much of humanity being left without a job” by showing how advanced artificial art has become, as it can produce works on par with real artists, threatening their jobs, and by allowing the public to make the choice of whether efficiency or interactivity is more important to them, ultimately symbolizing if humanity will make the right choice with regulating the software, or if we prefer results over human interaction and would rather that mass job loss strike.
Statement of Intent:
I wanted to create a semi-high quality thumbnail to really get across the group’s final vision for the project. At this stage, the project is in the form of a board that can be hung up onto a wall in a plaza, however this is very likely to change as we discuss better ways to reach more people in public settings. I think for this to work, the board would either have to be much larger, or portable to an extent… rolling it around could be a good solution to many of our problems, such as how to hang it, or if it would even be legal. We can see the vision, we just need to refine the piece for the final presentation in public.
VIRAL INTERVENTIONS (TIMELINE):
Title: Round the Clock Work
A paper-pencil artwork depicting our estimated timeline of event around a clock.
Timeline roughly:
April 15th, gather materials
April 17th, create posters and artwork
April 19th, begin putting out posters in public/deciding location of posters finally
April 19-20, gather data through project interaction… obtain artifacts after filming documentation of piece in public.
VIRAL INTERVENTIONS (BUDGET):
Title: Budget on receipt
Budget:
Poster printing, $10-$30+
Markers, $5
Gas, $5 x4
Optional:
Table: $20+
Sign stand: $20+
FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL #3
Paragraph:
A piece that would involve transforming park pavilion, or similar space, into an interactive experience involving choice. Because the sentence we ended up with, “AI will shape the future of our world, however its overuse may leave much of humanity without a job”, implies the idea that artificial intelligence is inevitable, the entrance to the piece, which would symbolize AI, would NEED to be crossed in order to reach the rest of the piece. This would get across the point that AI will be in the future, however the rest of the piece would involve choice. The viewers may have to choose between various options, each being either AI-based or human-based, and by the end of the experience, their choices would lead them to an ending symbolizing either harmony between man and machine, or poverty cause by AI taking over most employment. This could be accomplished through a maze-like interior containing work done by AI and humans, with the viewers having to navigate the maze by choosing to follow the AI-based work, or the human work. This idea is certainly subject to change, but we feel as though it has potential for a starting point.

FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL #2
Paragraph:
Paragraph:
AI is becoming more advanced by the day and becoming capable of more and more things that could in the past only be done by humans and with those advancements in technology comes the possibilities of AI completely replacing us in those job positions threatening to put a large number of people worldwide out of work. My project proposal is to make a poster showing off this battle between humanity and AI to keep humans in the work force predominantly as the "winner" and AI to stay as merely a tool as the "loser".

FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL #1
Paragraph:
Show pieces of AI that can already do jobs that we do or have already taken up job positions. One example of this would be art pieces, companies, and people are already making massive profits off of AI art which takes up potential jobs The actual artist could’ve done themselves. Another example would be writing, essays and doing homework. Although not as broad or popular as art these things still create potential jobs, such as tutors and people who do homework and essays for money. These are just two examples of many. I want to make these examples myself and paste them in public where they correlate with.

Title: Hiding in Young Memories
Dimensions: Variable (Performance)
Materials Used: iPhone 11 camera, iMovie editing software
Statement:
In this week’s project we were tasked with creating what is essentially a video compilation of various shots of a location in order to give it importance. An idea I thought was neat, especially considering my lack of video-creation experience, was to flash between an area important to my past, and one important in my present life. The park in the footage is one which I used to go to as a young boy, and one that has brought plenty of memories, good and bad. I grew up there, broke my arm there, made friends there, and it’s changed so so much. I wanted to immortalize it in the un-colored “memory” portions of the project. I chose FIU MMC as my important present location, as my life practically revolves around my studies at this point. The stress of everyday life as a college student was captured through harsh audio and bright colors, which juxtapose the calm, quiet memories from my childhood which I wished to hide in for the video. In the end, you can’t escape the present, therefore I ended the piece with a quick shot of me sitting down and excepting my position in college as a student, despite how utterly stressful it is.

PRESENT:
Video:
Statement of Intent:
Each of our group members (despite one absence) picked out various news sources, with mine being Fortune.com, and looked for articles pertaining to our present day. Naturally, I chose an article pertaining to AI and its future… and so the word that stood out the most to me was “Future”. The other group members submitted their words, and we were left with Future, National, Politics, and Police. The sentence we quickly formulated was “The national future depends on politics and the police”… a rather blunt message all things considered, but one that made sense with the given time frame and state of the world. We then created a video showcasing our public performance where we stood under a soldier statue on campus, as it was fitting for our message about the nation, and presented it on torn up paper shreds. This was primarily to show the minuscule and often unheard side that individuals have when it comes to their opinions, feeling small, ignored, and thrown to the side.
