Hello tumblr people - my new album “Beautiful Motors” comes out October 9th 2020 on double double whammy. It’s been a long couple of years making this record, I can’t believe I finally get to begin sharing it with you!
Tonight kicks off a few shows I'm playing this month. Friends in DC, NJ and Philly, come say hi
12 track album
Sam Cook-Parrott and I made a lo-fi record and it’s out now. We recorded it in bits and pieces over the past 18 months at home on different 4-tracks and tape recorders. We are excited about this album, listen when you have a quiet sec to yourself.
Handmade cassette version of new songs, i only made 20 or so to have at shows this month. Get to the gig/buy now or cry later. Paper is from 1947, images are from the 60s. Songs are brand new though.....
Upcoming shows with good friends Bad Moves! Also, I'm dubbing a couple tapes of a new album that won't be out for a minute and I'll only really have them at these shows
6/17 - BALTIMORE, MD - 8pm @ Holy Underground w/ Foozle, Dreambush
6/18 - PITTSBURGH, PA - 7pm @ Hen Haus w/ Yrs, Endless Mike
6/19 - SYRACUSE, NY - 5:30pm @ Spark Contemporary Art Space w/ Therm, The Nudes
6/20 - BROOKLYN, NY @ Silent Barn w/ Slight, Free Pizza
6/21 - PHILADELPHIA, PA (no Bad Moves) @ Boot and Saddle w/ Mutual Benefit, Florist
This show is happening as a fundraiser for FTTC2016! Come out this Sunday to Lava Space.

This is a fundraiser for First Time’s the Charm 2016, a show made up of MORE brand-new bands that foregrounds the contributions of female-identified, trans* and queer folks, and people of color to the DIY/punk community in Philadelphia. FTTC will take place on June 3rd and 4th at PhilaMOCA, all proceeds will benefit Girls Rock Philly.

$5-$7. No one turned away for lack of funds.
This is our first show as The Afterglows, blessed be.
Band submissions are open now! Sign-up here!
When completing this form and creating your band, remember that the makeup of your band is a microcosm of our scene! What does your band say about representation in our scene and city?
FTTC submissions open on February 25th and close on March 4th. While we take into account the order in which we receive submissions, slots are not granted on a rolling basis. In the event that more bands sign up than there is room for, we will use these submissions to choose bands that best fulfill the spirit of this event. Please sign up any time within the next week!
Only one submission per band is necessary. Each band member does not need to submit.
Submissions for First Time's the Charm are now open. Applications are rolling in, submit soon if you were considering playing.
In 2013 we held the first ever First Time’s the Charm concert at PhilaMOCA. It was a resounding success. Sixteen (!) bands played their first ever show and the money raised went to fund the DIY PHL PA Share program, which has been used for close to 250 different events in the Philadelphia community since its inception.
Now we’re back at PhilaMOCA for First Time’s the Charm 2016: Friday June 3rd and Saturday the 4th. By actively including women, queer-identified folks, trans* people, people of color, and musicians playing a new instrument or in a band for the first time, First Time’s the Charm encourages inclusion and diversity in the music community. In addition to the two nights of bands, there will be a series of workshops leading up to the event to break down the boundaries between “musician” and “non-musician” and help demystify songwriting and band formation for newcomers. We can’t wait to hear and see the fresh faces and sounds that this year’s shows will premiere! Proceeds from FTTC 2016 will go to Girls Rock Philly, a volunteer-based organization dedicated to empowering young girls, women, and marginalized communities in Philadelphia through programs and activities that foster creativity and collaboration. To find out more details check out the FAQ. Follow fttc2016.tumblr.com to keep up-to-date and be the first to submit your band when registration opens on February 25th!
First Time's the Charm is happening again in 2016. New bands and new voices apply within

I recorded a 7-song EP this month that is available for download. I recorded it during my week in Moon, VA and in the following weeks here in DC. Carni Klirs (materiaobscura.tumblr.com) helped me record this to his TASCAM 424MkII 4-track cassette recorder.
Four years ago today, I released my first solo EP. I haven’t listened to it in a while and I think I sound a lot different now, but it was a crucial first step towards writing and recording without a band around. Looking at it now, this EP was a companion to Dreamers. Even though it preceded it by 8 months, most of the songs were written after and deal with the same things I was processing then.
I didn’t think I would make more home-recorded albums and it was hard to imagine this evolving into my primary outlet but it lead directly to where I am now, creatively. So thanks to the 25 people that bought a hand-drawn CDr of some bama’s sad songs.
We are playing some shows next month in the midwest/east coast:
2/13 Columbus, OH @ Space Bar
2/14 Cincinatti, OH @ TBA
