Michael, you have God-given talent. And if a person is to make a difference in the world, he must preserve that talent, develop it, and use it for the good of others. Because of your musical talent, you have stirred generations of people all across the world. And for that, history has reserved a page for you in its annals. And then, for your humanitarian acts—for caring about what happens to people, caring enough to do your very best—I assure you that immortality will cradle you gently in its arms, and you will be forever known.

okay we need to put this “michael jackson didn’t want to be black” bullshit to rest here and now
not only did he suffer from vitiligo, a skin disease which gradually de-pigmented his melanin and caused him to appear lighter throughout his life, but he also:
attended black power events in Harlem in the early 2000s in which he spoke out against white washing and racism in the music industry
donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the NAACP, the United Negro College Fund, and other black charities/organizations
sang and spoke out about institutional racism and police brutality in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s; his original video for “They Don’t Care About Us” is set in a prison and was allegedly the inspiration for Kendrick’s Grammy performance
made frequent trips to Africa which he referred to as his “home”
wanted the video for “Remember the Time” to be a purposeful statement against white washing in Egyptian movies and went out of his way to ensure the entire cast was black/brown
invited low income majority black kids and their families to his amusement park at his home in Neverland for no cost
bought back the catalogues of black musicians like Little Richard who were ripped off by white producers/studios and returned them to their rightful owners
explicitly stated that he did not want to be portrayed by a white actor because he was “a black American [who was] proud of [his] race and proud of who [he] was”
never ever attempted to “alter his black features” (a bizarre and offensive charge within itself) and in fact received minimal plastic surgery despite tabloid rumor
denying Michael’s race isn’t just racist and disrespectful it also belittles his accomplishments as a proud black man who conquered a racist white industry
This
After Quincy played the “Man In The Mirror” demo for Michael, he called me from the studio and put Michael on the phone. Next I heard a soft, high-pitched “Hello—“ Okay, in my mind, I was screaming, “OH, MY GOD”! This is Michael Jackson! Talking to ME! See, every black girl my age, who grew up listening to the Jackson 5, had a ‘husband’ from the group picked out. My sister’s was Jermaine and mine was Michael. So, as far as I was concerned, I was now talking to my childhood ‘husband!’ Yeah, inside I was a mess, but my outward demeanor was as unflappable as an AT&T telephone operator. I calmly responded, “Hello, how can I help you?”
