“i know, i’m not usually like this,” andrea promised. she really wasn’t, and she usually rolled her eyes at people who had behavior like she did right now. but sometimes you needed a break from people, and that’s how she felt right now. “back in your day? i think we’re the same age.” andrea replied with a laugh. “also, i don’t think that sounds right.”
mickey shrugged as he lifted his own phone up to check his twitter feed — hypocrisy be damned. yet again, it was nothing but mindless celebrity gossip and whatever music his friends were promoting. “come to think of it, history was never my best subject,” mickey said, eyes still glued to the gossip on his screen. ”wow, is it true that you have a secret twin hidden in your basement? god, paparazzi can find anything these days.”
“i know it’s like a week or two late, but i wanted to tell you congrats on the album,” he said with a grin, “i’ve been listening to it on repeat and it’s fucking amazing. your drums on the album? they’re killer, dude.”
“appreciate it, dash” mickey replied as he tried to keep a smug smile from creeping up on his face. after all, best-selling albums don’t happen very often. “you know, i don’t think i’ll ever get tired of hearing our song on the radio. but, how’s everything with the band? i can’t wait to hear what you guys have been working on.”
hey kids i got the stomach flu and its been absolute hell so im gonna take some time off to recover. ill be back in a few days but ill try to check in as soon as i start feeling better :)
andrea was scrolling through instagram while the other was talking. she didn’t do it to be rude but sometimes she needed an escape. she usually was pretty good at listening to people but today, she just wasn’t. she laughed at a post, and assumed it was inappropriate given the glare that the other was pointing at her across the table. “ oh, sorry, i was laughing at this meme. what was that you were saying again ? ”
“god, this generation and their phones,” mickey teased as he took another sip from his coffee. he hadn’t even realized how long he’d talked about his neighbour’s pet until andrea spoke up. still, he decided it best not to mention his fifteen minute monologue about muffins the cat. “back in my day, we use to tie a string between two tin cans to talk to each other. now, it’s all about snapbook and instaface.”
“You don’t have to believe the same things as me, but don’t act like I’m worshiping some flying spaghetti monster in the sky as the creator of the universe.”
“Well, do you think you could spare some time to read my fortune? Maybe tell me how many kids I’ll have from my tea leaves or something?”
“Seriously? This is why you called me?” Lucky asked flatly, face void of emotion aside from the slightest hint of questioning impatience. It wasn’t as though he’d had anything especially important to be doing instead, and when he’d received the call his focus had been elsewhere, but he nonetheless found himself feeling unimpressed. Nothing new there though. That was just his permanent state of being most days. “You’re lucky I didn’t have to call off rehearsals for this shit.” He said with a quiet sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. In truth he’d probably be looking for any excuse to cancel right now, but there seemed little point in mentioning that. “Just go through whatever the fuck you just said one more time. I lost interest about two sentences in.“
“I didn’t know who else to call. I’m just- I’m completely fucked,” Mickey stammered, trying to contain the panic in his voice. He turned over half his apartment as if his missing laptop would magically appear under his pillow covers. After an hour of searching, he resorted to calling half the contacts on his phone for help but was continuously sent to voicemail. Mickey breathed a sigh of relief hearing Lucky’s voice on the other end of the line. “Listen, if you can help me find my laptop you don't ever need to hear from me again," he replied as he paced his apartment. "At the very least, I can promise you some grass or whatever the hell vegans eat if you can help me out.
“There’s going to be a lunar eclipse Friday, the super moon is coming up. Honestly I can just feel the moon coming through and bringing me all sorts of good energies.”
“Please tell me you’re kidding with this horoscope shit. I mean, next you’ll tell me that the grass can predict my lucky numbers.”
「 TOM MADEN, CIS MALE, 25, DNCE. 」┈ did you read that latest viral gossip issue on MICHAEL “MICKEY” HAINES? he is the DRUMMER in AFTERPARTY, one of my favorite POP ROCK groups. they’ve been releasing music for TWO YEARS now, but viral gossip has only been talking about them for the last YEAR. get this, i think i heard THAT HE’S BEEN CAUGHT PLAGIARIZING MUSIC FROM OTHER ARTISTS FOR HIS SOLO WORK. they’re known as the SELLOUT of the music industry, since they have a rep for being PRAGMATIC but MISGUIDED, but who knows. maybe that will change once they become #1. ( JAN, 21, EST, SHE/HER. )
*kill bill sirens* *cash register noise* *clown honk* *air horns*
hey there everyone!! im jan and heres a lil something i had down for mickey. im still working some of it out but im excited to plot with every single one of you!!!
past —
michael haines was born into a family of chefs. his parents owned a humble restaurant thats been passed down from his grandfather and they very well expected their son to be a part of the business
as a child, he never really took to the kitchen as much as his siblings did. he’d spend his time running around the block with his mother chasing after him with a slipper in hand
at the advice of his uncles, mickey’s parents plopped him down in front of a drum kit as a way to let out some of his loose energy. both his mother and father argue that it was a start to the next twenty years of his drumming career
school wasn’t his strongest suit and mickey often got into trouble with teachers and other students. the only thing he had a real interest in was being a part of the school band (never mind the fact that they sounded terrible)
the restaurant came first in the haines’ household and mickey spent most of his time helping out in the kitchen. his family looked down on the pursuit of music thinking it to be a waste of time. this, however, didn’t phase the young boy. he would spend his off days practicing and would often sneak out to attend recitals and gigs
sure, the marching band might’ve been rough around the edges but he loved nothing more than being part of an ensemble. towards the end of high school, michael was admitted to the local orchestra and what was once a small hobby became a serious consideration
senior year was the tipping point for mickey. not only did he begin to spend less and less time at the restaurant, but his admissions letter from a performing arts college did not bode well for his parents
those in his family hadn’t even bothered to congratulate him on the news and many believed him to be turning his back on the business. after high school, mickey packed his bags and moved to the other side of the country without a slightest send-off from his parent
though he initially took to performing percussion, mickey found a knack for composition and arrangement. his college friends would later joke at the fact that someone who preferred to do work behind the scenes would somehow become a famous pop star
his time in college was the first chance he had to explore his interest in music and mickey would spend countless hours perfecting his pieces for showcases and recitals. though he loved performing, he fancied himself the next beethoven a few years down the road
with what little he saved up before he moved, mickey would support himself through school with side gigs and odd jobs. need a drummer for a wedding or quinceanera? micheal haines would be the one to call
mickey found some success after he’d finished college but was soon glossed over for newer and fresher talent. attendance for his shows trickled down and copies of his music sat untouched in his apartment. the kids at his side jobs didn’t care about his undergraduate degree as long as he could play the wiggles
with his debt racking up and life finally catching up to him, mickey joined afterparty and the lights started to shine a little brighter
present —
though he promised himself that this would only be a stepping stone to pursue what he really wanted to do, he couldn’t help but bask in the spotlight. it was the first time strangers recognized something he could proudly put his name on and he finally had a chance to prove his naysayers wrong
maybe he let a few too many number one hits go to his head, but who could blame him? even his family had come back to make their apologies, but he has yet to return their calls
despite the success of the band, mickey continued to work on his compositions but struggled to find the same passion he had in college.
the plagiarism started when he “borrowed” an instrumental or two from a friend and has now grown to something beyond his control. many of his pieces are copies of other arrangements that haven’t seen the light of day. mickey has yet to release any of the music he’d been working on but, to him, who’s really going to get hurt by a few stolen pieces?
