Kimetsu no Yaiba + astrology Part I
I believe I’ve mentioned astrology as one of my hobbies, yes? so here’s a masterpost on kamaboko squad + the pillars and their sun signs, what they mean, and some additional information on astrology for those who aren’t familiar with the concept!
For this first post, I will be focusing on the first six signs of the zodiac, aries - virgo. With that in mind, here we go!
Aries
March 22 - April 21
planetary ruler: mars
element: fire
mode: cardinal
symbol: the ram
strengths: brave, assertive, innocent
weaknesses: impulsive, domineering, aggressive
Unfortunately, there are no aries suns among the characters with confirmed birthdates, but I couldn’t let aries people get jipped on this post. Personally, I headcanon Sabito as an aries! Aries people tend to be athletic and valiant, much like him. They are fun and outgoing, but are often harsh with their words and are EXTREMELY stubborn. Like Sabito, aries can be childishly idealistic and this can get them in trouble.
Sabito’s other placements: personally I think Sabito is a virgo mars. Virgo mars has very intense conviction, and when they decide to do something it will get done. They are strict but well-meaning teachers and like to help others.
Taurus
planetary ruler: venus
April 22 - May 21
element: earth
mode: fixed
symbol: the bull
strengths: grounded, sensual, empathic
weaknesses: pleasure-seeking, STUBBORN, lavish
Inosuke (April 22)
Inosuke is the absolute picture of a taurus stereotype (no surprises here, Gotouge is a taurus so and I assume they know their stuff, lol). Most notably, taurus people are very in tune with their senses. Inosuke is so in tune with his that he can tell when he’s being watched without even turning around. Despite his ridiculous pig headedness (nice joke there Gotouge), Inosuke is actually quite attuned to the feelings of those around him once he gets used to being with humans–for example, he was able to guess that Shinobu had died simply by looking at Kanao’s face.
Inosuke’s other placements: I very much see Inosuke as an aries moon. Aries moon people handle their emotions impulsively and with intensity. They are hot-blooded individuals who are known for being blunt and quite often bite off more than they can chew.
Gemini
planetary ruler: mercury
May 22 - June 21
element: air
mode: mutable
symbol: the twins
strengths: clever, sociable, multitalented
weaknesses: “two-faced,” mischievous, condescending
Mitsuri (June 1)
At first, I was confused as to why Gotouge went with gemini for Mitsuri. However I soon realized that Mitsuri is specifically a second decan gemini. Each sun sign is split into three different “decans,” each of which supposedly represent different things. Second decan gemini women are obsessed with romantic love. Like a typical gemini, they are intelligent and sociable people who can be comfortable in any environment with any people; however, being ruled by the planet of love and beauty venus along with gemini’s clever mercury, they tend to be much softer and less calculating.
Mitsuri’s other placements: one of my favorite astrology headcanons is that Mitsuri is a libra moon (as a lunar libra myself, this is probably the Mitsuri kinnie in me talking). Libra moons are hopeless romantic daydreamers who, like Mitsuri, long for harmony in their environment and for everyone to get along. They are sweet and delicate, though their emotions can be explosive.
Cancer
planetary rulership: moon
June 22 - July 21
element: water
mode: cardinal
symbol: the crab
strengths: sensitive, loving, friendly
weaknesses: sensitive, conflict averse, loves revenge
Tanjiro (July 14)
Literally of COURSE our beautiful boy is a cancer! Cancers are known for being extremely sensitive and empathic to the point where it effects their everyday life greatly. They love the comforts of home and their own little world. Like Tanjiro, cancers are sweet crybabies who will do anything for their friends. However, they can also be extremely emotionally volatile, much like Tanjiro when Rui suggests he will take Nezuko away. While they are intense empaths, sometimes they are so wrapped up in their own feelings that they forget about that of others. Unfortunately, cancers may forgive but they will never forget. Tanjiro is a forgiving individual, but we constantly see that he will not rest until Muzan is six feet under (not that said uglie man doesn’t deserve it, but still). They can also be rather passive-aggressive, and often deal with conflict while smiling to hide that they are seething.
Tanjiro’s other placements: Because mercury follows the sun, mercury signs are often the same as an individual’s sun sign. That said, I think of Tanjiro as a cancer mercury. Cancer mercurys are kind and open, and give off the vibe that you can tell them anything. However, they are also HUGE crybabies.
Leo
planetary ruler: sun
July 22 - August 21
element: fire
mode: fixed
symbol: the lion
strenghts: creative, popular, well-rounded
weaknesses: proud, harsh, dramatic
Muichiro (August 8)
I’ll be honest, I expected Mui to be a pisces–but once his memories came back, it was very clear he was a leo. Leos are outgoing, goofy, and full of love! they are ruled by the sun (Mui’s tie to breath of sun, anyone?), which makes them bright, passionate individuals. However, they are ridiculously proud and sometimes forget that the world doesn’t revolve around them. They are also MASSIVE drama queens, and like Muichiro they will cry at the drop of a hat. Like many leos, Muichiro tends to be in his own world most of the time and often forgets about other peoples’ feelings–for example, the scene with the training dummy in which Kotetsu and Tanjiro note that he seems rude and aloof. Leos are also stereotyped as being mean and aggressive, which we absolutely see in Muichiro when he dislikes someone. When he does like someone though, he’s a little ball of love and sunshine! Leos tend to be insecure as well despite their pride (in fact, their pride stems from insecurity). This is more prominent in Muichiro when he is younger, in his interactions with his brother.
Muichiro’s other placements: Muichiro strikes me as a pisces moon. Pisces moon people are daydreamy and sensitive, often acting as emotional sponges and feeling overwhelmed by emotions. Pisces people tend to have trouble admitting their own flaws, and cannot take the idea of failure (”I have to do something before I die!”)
Virgo
Planetary ruler: mercury
August 22 - September 21
element: earth
mode: mutable
symbol: the virgin
strengths: aims to please, organized, intense
weaknesses: obsessive, anxious, blunt
Zenitsu (September 3)
Zenitsu as a virgo is possibly the funniest, most accurate placement of them all (and I’m NOT talking about the cherry boy joke Gotouge slipped in there). For starters, virgos tend to be anxious on extreme levels. They are perfectionists, and refuse to be less than the best. Like Zenitsu, if they can only do one thing, they will hone that skill to perfection. Virgos can be obsessive and like to have control of their environment. When they don’t, they tend to freak out and try to take control–this can make them appear bossy! Virgos also tend to be people pleasers, and they can make the mistake of putting their own happiness on the back burner for someone who is only taking advantage of them. Their dedicated nature often gets them in trouble and leaves them empty, much like Zenitsu’s experience with lack of friends and romantic companionship–he’s desperate to be liked, and gets kicked while he’s down because of it. Virgos tend to be very intelligent because of their mercury rulership, and they can be very blunt and condescending when they think someone is being stupid (see: his relationship with Inosuke in particular). They are practical and determined.
Zenitsu’s other placements: Zenitsu is a leo moon to boot. Leo moons handle their emotions in a dramatic and–dare I say it–flamboyant nature. They display an interesting mix of pride and insecurity, and need validation constantly because of it. Their emotions are like a forest fire, and people sometimes find them hard to handle because of that intensity.
Obanai (September 15)
Obanai is a much harsher depiction of virgo than Zenitsu, in my opinion. He is brutally honest, and tends to be more rational than emotional. That is not to say he is devoid of softness; he is very loving and dedicated to Mitsuri. Within said relationship, it is clear that he shows his affection through small yet caring gestures, like when he gave her those socks. Like any virgo, his anger is a force to be reckoned with. While he typically appears collected and operates logically, he becomes quite scary when enraged. Despite their usual initial low-key appearance, virgos are passionate individuals, and when what they love is threatened, they react much like Obanai when someone gross (in his opinion) breathes in Mitsuri’s direction.
Obanai’s other placements: I think of Obanai as a scorpio venus. People with venus in scorpio fall in love fast and hard, and they can be obsessive when it comes to their love interest–not that they are stalkers, they just love very intensely and with their entire being. In truth, when a scorpio venus loves you, they are near impossible to get rid of.
