Dear binary trans folks, I sincerely apologize if this sounds rude, but here’s a helpful reminder that nonbinary people are included in the word “transgender” and are allowed to use the trans flag if they choose to. I am aware that some nonbinary people don’t identify as trans or use the trans flag, and I respect that, but I just want to get this out there. If you tell nonbinary people that they can’t call themselves trans or use the trans flag, then you’re being rude and you don’t have the right to do that. We should be working together, not tearing each other down. Nobody wins when that happens. Being supportive of others is an excellent use of our time and it costs $0 to do so.

As a person who grew up in a homophobic and transphobic household, I know how hard it can be to challenge the beliefs that have been imposed on you your whole life, and I imagine it’s a similar struggle for those who grew up in racist or mysogynistic environments.
