Entre chien et loup Remus Lupin arrives in a remote village in the north of England, where he’s been hired to restore a mural on the grounds of the local church. Living in the chapel where he works, Remus is surrounded by the picturesque countryside in the throes of summer. He’s kept company by Sirius Black, a man who’s supposed to be digging up graves in the kirkyard near the chapel in search of a supposed vampire. Uncovering more each day, Remus reveals both the mural and himself, all while racing against the clock to be home before the next full moon.

20th Century Boys (COMPLETE) “It’s a lot you know, going on tour.” Lily whispers, leaning forward, trying to catch his eye as he takes a long drag. “Are you nervous?”

Remus shrugs, “I’m always nervous.” he mumbles.

“It could be great though, this is a big step, you’re not just playing to the same crowd at Arlene’s every weekend.” Another shrug, another drag and Remus is tamping down the nerves growing. They’ve been eating away at him, a slow creep, ever since the announcement.

Sirius’s excited face, shoving the papers at the rest of them, vibrating with anticipation and all he could think about was how sweet it all seemed.

“Yeah it could be nice.” He takes a deep breath, stretching out and looking at the plaster moulding around the ceiling light.

*** After cutting their teeth in a series of residencies in New York, The Dark Stars have been signed on to a small time tour across the east coast. Sixteen days, eight cities, seven shows, two countries and one moody van, these small town boys are in for something that will make or break them.

Mongrel Minds Going into their last year of study at the University of Manchester, Sirius and Remus have been dancing around a blooming crush for the last few years. Everything comes to a head right before their last fall term together and both boys think they’ve made a terrible mistake. “What do you think it means?” Sirius’s voice is quiet, just above the music. Remus turns, coming face to face with him. His hazel eyes are glassy, gaze soft as it flits over Sirius’s face. “What do you mean?” When Remus asks, Sirius’s brows furrow, the slice through his right eyebrow almost disappearing. “Fate up against your will,” Sirius repeats almost reverently. Remus bites his lip, the movement drawing Sirius’s eyes towards it. “It’s inevitable.” His voice is soft, bordering husky. Rating: Explicit // COMPLETE 12/12 chapters

I Still Do Closing in on final exams of his last year at uni, Remus comes to the grim realization that if he doesn’t pass a course, he’ll lose his funding for his Master’s in the fall. After a year spent rebuilding his relationships with his friends, he does something he never thought he’d be able to do: ask for help. Pete picks up on the third ring. “Alright, mate?” “I need your help.” Remus can feel his breathing start to quicken so he holds his breath, waiting for Pete’s answer. “Of course, do you need me to come over?” “No, I…” Fuck what do I need? A fucking time machine, someone to sweet talk the professor. “...need help.” He sucks in a steadying breath, running his hand through his hair, “Academically, that is. Pete, I’ve fucked up royally and I don’t know what to do.” Rating: Mature // WIP 2/6 Chapters

CLASH

CLASH During a night out alone, Sirius is drawn into the orbit of a man he's never met before—someone he usually wouldn't be into—but something about his rough exterior is pulling him in. After a couple of hours of skirting around one another, they collide, falling into each others space in a tangle of what should only be a one night stand. But when Sirius leaves the next morning, Remus is consumed with thoughts of only him, something he's never experienced before. White Knuckle Ride Deciding it’s time to stop loitering and order something, Remus is about to get up and get a drink when he notices a man walking in wearing a charcoal grey suit. Not the usual sight in a place like this. Everyone else around him is in casual t-shirts and jeans, perhaps the odd dress now and then, but a suit is unusual. It excites him, something interesting to look at, someone interesting to look at. There’s a tugging in the centre of his chest as he looks, something enticing him, pulling him in. This man is put together, well groomed, everything he’s wearing is thought out. His hair is pulled back, tied at the nape of his neck and away from his face. It accentuates his strong jaw, high cheekbones and the slender curve of his neck. His hair falls in loose curls down his back and it looks soft. A strand has come free, slipped out of the tie and it hangs loosely by the side of his face as he talks. Rating: Explicit // COMPLETE Words: 9,731

Steady Rein (SERIES COMPLETE)

Steady Rein Remus Lupin reluctantly volunteers as a pickup man for their town's small-time rodeo. But everything changes when he lays eyes on Sirius Black, an out of town cowboy who just seems to reel him into orbit. As the weekend unfolds, Remus can’t shake the tugging whenever they’re close. Going Steady Remus Lupin and Sirius Black have been living a quiet life in the city for a couple of years, enjoying their time where they can but Sirius is looking for a change. After a little bit of convincing, Remus is onboard and they start to look for a property they can build up together. Sirius presses them closer, “What else do you want?” He takes Remus’s hand in his own, moving it down and letting it settle on the buckle of his jeans. Remus responds, undoing it slowly, letting it fall open before working on the button, then the zipper. “You.” He doesn’t bother to hide the huskiness in his voice. Hauling Sirius into his lap, pulling him close and yanking off his t-shirt. “I wanna be able to do it all ourselves, just you and me.” *** A sequel to Steady Rein with a little more angst but still the same amount of sweetness. Trying my darndest to get out there and post things that aren't perfect or edited and I think this little fic is the best for me to do it with.

The Dog Beneath the Skin

They’re still motoring down the highway, plains filled with nothing but dust and wind and when Remus doesn’t answer, Sirius picks up again.  “Look, I know you’ve got some winnings, let’s get a room for the night and get some beer in us and we can take it from there.”  Remus is looking at Sirius from the other side of the cab like he always is, a little furrow placed square between his brows. A constant fixture on his face. He purses his lips, sucking on his teeth for a second thinking it over.  “Come on now, you do drink don’t you? You’re not one of them Christian types that doesn’t partake in—” “I drink.” He cuts Sirius off quickly, eyes focused on the road, a tension in his jaw that settles all the way down his neck. “Are you religious?” Sirius asks and Remus fidgets again, nervous hand coming up to the hollow of his throat. “Me? Nah…mama was devout but daddy was more the holiday type, only going on special occasions, whenever he needed to show face in the community.” Sirius hums a response, elbow on the window and one hand on the wheel his grip is starting to fail. Fingers and wrists sore from being stuck on the wheel he flexes them, glancing at Remus again.  He’s been sneaking looks the whole ride, sizing him up and taking him in like he would any good bronc. Remus is skinny, all arms and legs with nothing much in the middle. Sirius has noticed he favours his left side, a little more gentle with that arm, rolling his shoulder to keep the motion in it.  “So you’re a drinker then?” Remus shrugs, “I like a beer or two—hard liquor ain’t for me though.” “How come?”  There’s a pause for a second, the radio still dancing back and forth between static and song and Sirius makes a note that it may be tapes from here on out.  Remus snorts, glance drifting out the window before he settles it on Sirius.  “Shoot, you sure do as a lotta questions—”  “Ask me some then.”  Remus pauses, considers for a little longer than Sirius expects and purses his lips. He has a scar, right in the corner that isn’t noticeable unless he does it. A line deeper than the rest, his lip puckering in the kind of way that hints towards stitches. After a bit he turns to face Sirius, back against the passenger door, leg bent on the seat.  “Where’re you from?” He finally asks. “All over, don’t really have roots.” Remus’s mouth forms a hard line, eyes narrowing before he tries again.  “Where were you born?” He corrects and Sirius’s lip curls into the beginning of a smile. He leans back, rolling his neck and sees a sign for a city coming up in the next hundred or so miles.  “Oklahoma.” Remus nods before offering, “Texas.” “We’re neighbours.” “Guess we are.” “You only rodeo? Are you a working cowboy too?” Remus grunts, crossing his arms, “Thought it was my turn to ask the questions?” he says with a bit of a joking quality to it, the first little peek through the hard exterior. “I work too…not so much now, but I did for a bit.”  His answer holds a little more weight to it, things left unsaid but not needed to be said. There’s an air about him now, like rolling clouds across the prairies, the long pauses that fill the wide and open spaces and Sirius decides this is a good place to stop.

The main focus of this one is quiet. It's reading between the lines instead of spelling out emotions. Hinting to backstories that aren't told and can be interpreted in different ways. It's also an attempt at rough characters, people who are hard on themselves and hard on others because it's all they know how to be.

Whenever I start something, because I'm such a visual person I always design the covers. I gather bits for moodboards, what the characters look like, what they sound like if it's something out of my comfort zone and this one has been fun.

In my mind I've based Remus a little off Townes Van Zandt in the way he talks, elongated vowels and a little soft spoken, almost regal demanding you to listen to him. Long pauses, weighing out words. I've spent a gross amount of time enthralled with old TVZ interviews listening to him talk and thinking about how Sirius would hear it.

I dunno this is a lot of dumb background for a fic but I really love to dive into the research and meander my way through it as I write.

A little snippet on a Sunday

Another little unedited snippet on a Sunday of The Dog Beneath the Skin.

“It’s S-I-R-I-U-S like the star,” he says, tapping his finger on the paper before the man misspells his name. He’s rodeo’d with enough Puritan Christian’s and their virtue names to have his butchered.  He pockets the piece of paper, the man in the trailer grunting in response before spitting in a paper coffee cup. His hat is sitting on its crown, inside yellowed with age and sweat and the whole place smells a little like mildew, like the rain outside is forcing its way in.  Sirius tips his own hat to the man, turning on his heel and getting caught up in the door with another cowboy.  A man, skinnier than him but about a head taller, bumps smack into him, nose right to the newcomers chest Sirius gets a whiff of him before he steps back.  “Sorry there friend—” he starts, eyes trailing up the man's chest, his competition vest unzipped but his button up fully fastened. He looks down at Sirius with a furrow in his brow and deep green eyes. His hair is stuck to his forehead, dried out a modicum amount but still damp and he’s covered in mud.

I think I'm going to post more little snippets on Tumblr to spur me on about writing this one!

snippet tag!!!

I've been tagged by @lifeisabitch-butimcute and @shunstanpike and I've been working on a BUNCH lately. CLASH is currently being edited and I'm working on reordering the consequential chapters, Entre chien et loup is done and I'm adding in an epilogue and I've started to seriously focus on another new little WIP that's going to be a touch different than the rest.

Here's a recently edited portion of CLASH chapter 9!

“What kind of volunteering do you do?” he asks and Remus blushes immediately, looks almost embarrassed by it.  “I haven’t been back in quite some time but there was a stint where I was going weekly to this place with Marlene out on the edge of town—it’s a community centre and she’d run these drop in hours for kids.” He’s speaking quickly now, like he wants to brush over it but Sirius presses further.  “And you’d help?” “Yeah, Marls is in an art program at uni so she’d put on these impromptu classes for the kids and I’d kind of sit in the back and help her corral them all.”  Sirius smirks, unable to picture Remus in a room full of children, imagining his too tall form trying to fold into a child sized chair.   “Why are you smirking like that? The kids loved us. There was this one little shit—Teddy—took me weeks to find out his name because he just wouldn’t speak to anyone. His mum had him pretty young and his dad had died suddenly—” Remus isn’t looking at him as he speaks, fiddling with the tea light on the table. His brows come together and in profile Sirius can feel he’s reliving something. He shifts his weight again before turning to face Sirius again, the look gone.  “So he wouldn’t really talk to anyone, yeah? Marlene’s spent ages trying to coax him out of his shell, well he sees me put my book away before I settle in and it’s like a light went off. He sat down right next to me and wouldn’t leave me alone. Chattering away, words coming out a mile a minute and—” “What was the book?” Sirius interrupts.  “Lord of the Rings.” “You’re fucking kidding me.”

Sometimes connection is all you need to get talking!! (also I've never read LOTR lol I'm in Sirius's camp with this one which you will find out when I post the chapter!!)

3 things to be happy about this week!!!

@lifeisabitch-butimcute tagged me in this and originally I was like “oh my god I’ve had such a rough week what am I happy about” and then I went out with friends lol

1. Habs won tonight and as an unfortunate hockey lover this is excellent because my beloved team has a chance at continuing on in the playoffs!!!

2. Seeing live music tonight absolutely breathed life back into my soul. I love seeing a band. I love going to a show. It’s alway worth it even if they aren’t great.

3. It was the first “big” artcrawl of the year which means it’s one more step closer to warm nights!!!

I love the city I live in. It’s gross and hard but I still love it.

unfortunately I am over the age of 30 and this song did something to me when I first heard it and any time anyone asks me what my favourite song is, this will always be the answer:

My insane claim to fame will always be seeing Crystal Castles in a Toronto loft and this song will always bring me beautiful (although very foggy memories??)

I think all of my favourite songs are obviously VERY connected with memory and like every basic ass bitch this song just connects deeply with a lot of them.

Another basic bitch song but this will always make me think of summer time and driving through acres and acres of fields.

I think this song was released as a b side in the mid 2000s or something and I remember hearing it for the first time and being like "oh my lord a stones song I HAVEN'T heard??"

BONUS because I don't love an odd number
