Having a crush is easy when it’s innocent. It was easier to manage when all they shared had been the same creative writing class, sitting on both ends of the lecture in the beginning that was until a writing project brought the pair together. Azzi was not only fascinated with the way she looked but she had a talent when it came to a pencil, she loved their process of Azzi being the one making the rough draft but Paige had the part of finalizing it like she was her own spellcheck. She remembered the blonde wouldn’t even let her see the essay again until it had been graded, something about her being to shy so she didn’t press but also because she trusted her that whatever she turned in would be fit for them both.
And, it was. It was a beautiful piece with writing their own ending with a book of their choice. It was probably after that when Azzi realized she looked at the girl much more than just a classmate even with the outside noise, it never mattered whenever she was in her space. That class in peculiar had been a Monday, Wednesday and Friday thing that occurred from 830 to 10—two whole hours of going over finals and deadlines, the professor normally would’ve let them go early but Professor Clark had other plants to go over the poetry performances coming up next week.
The class was big, the attendance being majority of their grades so a lot of students made sure to show up. Everyone expect for the blonde who normally would’ve been sitting next to Azzi but her seat remained empty even on Monday seeing as it was now Wednesday and she hasn’t heard from her, not even once.
“I also want to add that you all are my biggest class and I wanted to try something with you all,” Few clicks to her keyboard that sat on her rolling cart, the projector broad behind her head. As soon as the flyer registered on the screen, Azzi’s eyes had been going over the jumbo font, chin in her palm whilst her glittery pen twirled in her other grasp. “Whoever decides to fill out this form and recite your spoken word next week, you’ll have extra points towards your winter break final.” The class had been hyping up the idea making Azzi smirk at the clapping the other half of the class was doing, sitting up straight in her chair.
Professor Clark used her red pointer mouse to circle the date at the bottom. “The deadline for this form will be closing this weekend so if you truly want to do it, you’ll have to fill it out by then. I’m taking plenty applications, this form will just give me a head start on scheduling so that we make sure everyone’s time is valued.” She spun, sweater and trousers a cream color with a soft face. “Any questions?”
Azzi eyes went down to the hand lifting in the front. “Can we have partners?”
Professor Clark head shook. “I let you guys have them last week, this is a completely solo project. The syllabus for it has been sent out Monday and for anyone having trouble you can always contact me, my office hours are always opened.” Professor Clark wrapped it up after a short while and everybody moved to start collecting their stuff to leave but Azzi had already been ready only needing to slide her pen and notebook inside before she stood and walked down the steps. The brunette trying to move subtly but quickly enough until she heard her name, “Azzi? A word?” She spun, slow feet walking towards her desk while the rest of the students filed out.
“How are you?” Professor Clark asked first, fixing the cluttered papers in a nice stack.
Azzi smiled then. “I’m good, how are you?” She returned the question standing there in a solid colored tank, Fashion Nova plum colored shorts on with her white gel shoes on her feet. Azzi even gave herself time to perfect a bun at the top of her head, edges swooped simply with her piercings shining in her ears.
“Great actually, I’m heading out a little early today and I had to catch you before you left. I don’t mean to assume, I just know I’ve seen you and her shared words and I was wondering if you’ve spoken with Paige?” The question should’ve been an easy answer but it seemed stuck in her throat for a second, her head shaking side to side was the lie she told without moving her lips. “Oh okay, just figured I should ask.”
“Something wrong? I can try to text her or something, see where’s she been.” She watched her professor nod. “She should already know that her grade could go down because of her attendance. I’ve already tried emailing, if she doesn’t return by Friday, the conversation will be having to happen elsewhere and I don’t want that for her.”
Azzi nodded, understandingly. “I’ll text her and let her know.” As soon as Professor Clark dismissed her, she turned and hurried out of the classroom and as she walked down the pathway, she was pulling out her phone to see if she received anything indifferent. Azzi blinked at her blank homescreen, shaking her head before she opened it up and slid her thumb to the iMessage thread her and Paige shared. The messages inside of it were brief, the last time they texted being a few weeks ago.
The brunette wondered where on earth she could possibly be. When she woke up Monday seeing that she was gone had hurt her soul but she texted the blonde that she was leaving the other way to get inside of her dorm, a silver key under her mat so that she could get in.
The walk was lengthy to the caf but soon as she got there she used the handle to pull the door open, stepping inside as the small of espresso and bread touched her instantly. Azzi turned her head, a smile spreading on her lips with seeing Melissa and Dahlia sitting in their usual spot making her move quicker towards them. “I only have fifteen, my other class is in Jefferson.” Azzi referred to the building all the way across campus, it was a killer walking there.
“You look pretty.” Melissa commented as she leaned up, tugging at her plum shorts making Azzi smirk after she thanked her.
“So pretty, even Eli thinks so.” Melissa and Dahlia both started blowing kisses in her direction only making her stale face her friends, they continued to tease her before she threatened to get up and leave making their laughter sound loud as hell in the caf. Melissa Thornton was a pretty girl, light brown skin with so much hair that she always kept out of her face but Azzi loved it but today she had it going back into two French braids showing her round face and small eyes. They shared the same film class and had been friends since the beginning of the year, she knew her well beyond than just the academics.
Dahlia Wise was a pretty Latina with a warm-golden toned skin with dark expressive eyes and full eyebrows, Azzi’s favorite thing about her was her wavy thick hair. She lived for whenever she straightened it making her look much more older, it was like magic to Azzi. “You know he gave us coffee on the house?” Dahlia had pretty beauty marks scattered all over her face, her nose narrow as she glanced over her shoulder to Eli who was checking people out.
“Good for him.” Azzi shrugged and reached over to peel a piece of Melissa’s croissant before she could protest. “Oh shit look, he coming!” Azzi didn’t even bother with looking up, her phone flat on the table as she damn near opened every app so she wouldn’t have to speak. The crush Eli had on her was never a secret, he was a pretty boy with brown hair and dreamy eyes but he wasn’t Azzi’s pretty type. Even if that certain blonde wasn’t overtaking her mind every breathing second, she wouldn’t mess with Eli with her eyes closed.
“Hey y’all, hey Azzi.” Her head lifted, a friendly tight smile on her lips.
“Y’all going to Emma’s rager? The get together she having on Halloween supposed to go crazy.” Melissa head came up. “I heard about that! I thought it was canceled though cause her parents were in town.”
“It was that’s why she moving it to the pier on East.” Melissa and Dahlia were going crazy, jumping in their seats only making Azzi laugh at her friends.
“You going?” She turned her head to find Eli looking at her, a hopeful expression on his face but before she could answer for herself. “Oh, she will, best believe and we’re dressing up.” The new information made her brown eyes widen, she almost forgot about the holiday upcoming next week, she still had so much shit she wanted to catch up on and knew she couldn’t do that drunk.
“Can’t wait to see you.” Eli added before his boss came from the back with narrowed eyes making the brown haired boy laugh before he waved bye and left.
“You know, for a senior? He’s not really that smooth.” Dahlia added when he was out of earshot making Azzi smirk. “I don’t know why y’all just got that boy hopes up, even if I do go to that party, I’m not messing with him.”
“We not asking you to mess with him, we asking you to keep getting us free treats.” Azzi kissed her teeth. “Lissa, I have so much to get done. I wanted to be done with the film by Halloween, if I do this, I know I won’t.”
Melissa groaned, leaning over to wrap both arms around Azzi with her cheek smushed against her own. “Can you tell her D? Tell her how fun this will be for us, we can even dress up real cute as a trio!” Azzi frowning lips made Dahlia smile. “Don’t pressure her but we would be really cute. You could finally let me do your makeup and we can get drunk as fuck!”
“As fuck. I promise to get you sloppy drunk Azzi Fudd.” Melissa was up now but her arms were still wrapped around her, the girl always did that whenever she wanted Azzi to commit to something, she wouldn’t let her go till she heard what she wanted. Azzi knew this was going to be nothing but trouble and Halloween was on a Saturday this year making matters worse, they were going to be getting her drunk soon as she woke up, the girl could already feel the hangover.
“Okay, if I’m doing this shit? I’m picking the costume.” Azzi said, jabbing her own chest but before she could even finish her sentence Melissa and Dahlia were already squealing with their hands in the air. Azzi could swear these girls were so damn loud, she still didn’t know how she got herself into this but they always had her laughing till her stomach ached. Even with her saying it was her pick, both girls were already going through Pinterest and as soon as the spotlight turned off her, she officially let her mind go back to Paige.
It was easy for it to happen whenever she was quiet. Nine times out of ten, she’d be thinking about her. It suddenly made her face frown at the sudden thought, her eyes coming up from her trance. “Wait, whose party did I just agree to go to?” Melissa turned her head. “Emma’s. I’m surprised that bitch ain’t invite us, as much time as we spent with her ass this weekend?”
Azzi stole the crispy croissant without a fret anymore, waving the girl off when she tried to reach. “So, why are we going? We weren’t even invited?”
“I don’t care, I’m going anyway but that’s not the point.” Melissa face palmed herself making them both laugh.
“Speaking of that, how’s the film going?” Dahlia diverted her attention to Azzi who was chewing on her treat, the question made her eyes sparkle, she loved talking about her project. “We just finished shooting the last scene Sunday, all I have to do is editing now but it’s so time consuming when I already have a set image for it and I have to get that image. I did finish editing a few scenes from Friday, see,” Azzi had been pulling out her iPhone as she was talking, it was a specific part with Emma and her friend group before Paige had popped in the scene.
Azzi turned her phone to landscape so that she could show them both even Melissa was leaning up to get a good look at the scene she helped shoot. It wasn’t until a few minutes in is when that certain blonde popped on her screen, her blonde hair was in a bun this day as she approached Emma on camera. “Ella es tan sexy, I swear I’ll climb that tree.” The fact of her calling Paige sexy made her laugh at how free she was, out of all her friends, Dahlia had to be the only person found of Paige. The compliments always had been happening even when Azzi first met Paige; Dahlia wasn’t in her film but she was around long enough to know of the blonde, Azzi though always let her comments suffice, nobody breathing knew about the relationship they shared besides them. “Can you not make me sick?” Melissa announced making them giggle again.
Azzi knew how attractive Paige was even with everybody disliking her sometimes, she still stayed pulling. Emma was a prime example of that, she had a feeling that Paige could’ve possibly been with her this week but she tried not to dwell too much on that. “Azzi ain’t even saying nothing cause she know it’s true.” Azzi frowned. “Don’t drag me into it, you have your own opinion and I have mine.”
“Which is what?” Dahlia asked, seemingly into it as her elbows went on the table.
Azzi eyes strayed from the girl to Melissa seeing her eyes on her as well making her shake her head, a nonchalant shrug from her shoulders. “I don’t think about her like that, she’s just helping me shoot a film, that’s it.” Even with the words coming from her mouth, the lie left a bad taste in it but it was no way in hell would she confess what she felt to them.
They were her best friends but certain information just couldn’t be classified, she didn’t have time for the rumors or for the questions about it, she’d say it when she felt more confident in what they shared but until that happened, she was Azzi’s little secret.
Paige Bueckers was currently moving fluently around the dorm room trying to find her stash. The rooms in Hiltop were much more spacious so she had so much space before her to check soon as she realized it wasn’t in its particular space she’d always left it, she was tossing shit around in her room knowing that she could’ve hidden it just to spite her. The room was extra wide rather than long, the twin sized bed being switched out for a full one with an even wider desk and dresser with a flat carpet spread out on the floor. Drawers slammed open one after another, the sound sharp against the quiet hum of her mini fridge. Clothes hit the floor in careless piles—bras, panties, tops, she didn’t give a shit whatever she saw she tossed. The girl moved fast, frantic almost, checking places she knew that it should’ve been.
Her figure extra tall and her blonde hair moved whenever she did in the black graphic tee and black sweats tied loosely on her, she came out of her jacket from how hot she was getting from moving around so much.
As soon as Emma came inside, she was on her phone before she even looked up from it to see the blonde standing in her glory. “Where is it?” Emma’s head snapped upwards at the sound of her voice a look of confusion was washed off her face when she seen her, the look instantly going sly. “Where is what?” Emma said, her door closing behind her as she stepped further inside of her room, the girls own dark eyes peering around seeing the mess she made.
Paige looked over at her, face reading nothing but that agitation. “Emma, don’t piss me off. You moved it, where is it?” Emma hair bypassed her shoulders to, black and clipped at the ends with small freckles scattered all over her face whilst those dark eyes burned holes into her. She stayed closer by the door, her arms crossed tight over her chest as she watched her basically trash her room, the blondes jaw tensing every time another drawer popped empty.
“Where were you last night or the day before that or the day before that? You haven’t spoken to me in days and this the shit you come here to do?”
“I’m not here for that. Where is my shit at? Did I ever touch your shit?”
“You not even giving me a chance to explain myself. Look at my fucking room bro—why would I try to steal from you?”
“Cause you weird as hell.” The insult made Emma eyebrows frown deep.
“Why would I give you what you want and you won’t even give me what I want?” Paige head snapped to her. “Bruh, are you dumb? You saying everything but what I’m asking you for, If I knew you’d turn into your momma I would’ve never been fuckin with you. If you think this shit making any difference between us, it’s not.” The exhaustion that was running through her was slowly turning into anger, she hadn’t slept at all besides last night and that was only two hours of sleep before she had to get up and make runs. Paige didn’t even want to come back to campus, she’d been lying low ever since her last run but she was out of cash and Paige without no green, simply ain’t Paige.
Drugs would’ve been one thing, hiding that wouldn’t have mattered but she felt like Emma was playing in her face big time making her slam the last drawer shut. Paige went over to the closet just to yank it open, not even for the conversation, falling to her knees as she dug through the bags at the bottom. Her breathing uneven as she tried to keep herself calm, exploding on Emma would be giving her just what she wanted so she knew better than to even engage.
“I swear Emma, I’ll tear this whole fucking room up. You wanna bet?” Paige stood up now, eyes shooting daggers whilst Emma met her in the middle. “And, you still won’t find it.” She whispered in her face, meeting the fire she had.
“You’re fucking crazy.” Paige said breathless with a shake of her head, trying to figure out what she ever saw.
“You’re a fucking liar. All the shit I’ve done for you Paige and you ghost me? Are you forgetting I lied to my parents for you or how about the time I bailed you out twice because you couldn’t stay off the fucking streets?” Paige scoffed. “You did that shit. I never asked you to do anything for me, don’t act like we were more than what we were just cause you did that. I can pay you back every penny you spent on me and you know it.” The stare down was harsh, barely space between them yet even when Emma’s face softened and she reached for her arm it only made Paige step back.
The space valuable between them again. “Where is it?” Paige asked again, her voice still stern.
Emma head shook, her black hair hitting the sides of her face as she spun around, a hand running through her hair as if she was stressed. “What did I do? Just tell me what I did so that I can fix it, I can fix it Paige. You just have to let me.” Emma even tried to step to her again but Paige couldn’t move much further from her losing her balance to her bed—Emma tried to straddle her easy with anything falling from her lips but Paige continued pushing the girl back, squeezing her wrist with enough strength to keep them down at her sides.
“Emma,” Paige stood again still squeezing the girls wrist together, the pressure on it not enough to hurt her but keep both arms together as she looked her dead in her eye. “Where is my shit?” Emma eyes scattered around her face, a dragging second between them before the girl glanced down at her wrist before snatching away from her. Paige could only watch the girl when she turned around and picked up her leathered Coach bag she tossed on the bean bag chair by the wall, digging through her purse before she pulled out the stack of cash. It was a measly two-thousand but it was all hers, something she worked for though so the amount didn’t matter.
The cash being here was a last minute decision and her picking it up was lowkey her way of cutting off all ties. She didn’t have to explain shit she ain’t want to, she hoped to find it before she got back but finding out she hid it only fueled the anger. Her mother had her looking at the girl entirely different and a brunette had her never looking at her with that affection again just off the first night with her.
Emma slapped the wad in her palm making Paige quickly tare the rubber band off, counting the paper smoothly.
“Wow, you seriously think I’d steal from you?” Emma said, watching her count it out.
Paige curled the rest and pushed it in her pocket, handing over five crispy hundreds. “That’s how much you spent to get me out. Don’t ever bring that shit up like I was using you for it, like I said, you did that shit cause you wanted to. I never asked you Emma, ever.” Paige knew she was getting shit confused because of how much she was around which only made her leave campus all together, she couldn’t see Azzi even as much as she wanted to, she pulled away till she got herself together.
“You didn’t have to. I’m not throwing it in your face Paige, I’m just saying. I wanna help you but you keep pulling away from me and for what?”
“I don’t need help.” Paige finalized. “I appreciated it but I’m straight now, I gotta get away real quick, I’ll see you around.” It was the only thing she could offer her as she left her standing there dumbfounded in the middle of her room even leaving the girls key on the desk, she shut the door after her and quickly made quick strides out of this dorm. It was bad luck to her now, she took the back exit because she had a feeling they would be waiting for her outside. It was another reason why she had to lie low, cruisers were filthy out there, she already caught one ducked off in the bushes like they were something slick.
Paige huffed as she jumped down around the fence, lifting her legs easy just to land back on the concrete and jog towards her destination. It wasn’t really lengthy, she’d always met him in the alleyway that was further down the road but she had to pass through the wooded area to get through without any lingering eyes. The leaves crushed underneath her feet as she made her way over and finally seeing the Honda that sat silently in the alley facing backwards, she walked down at her own pace and pulled the door open, the white cloud of smoke easy to linger out of the car making her slide inside quick and shut it behind her. She settled against the leathered seats, looking over at Dre as he handed over the blunt between his fingers.
Paige took that shit instantly, getting comfortable as she inhaled it deep just for the smoke to slowly leave her lips, curling into the air. “Late ass.” Dre said making her laugh already, she could already feel her eyes becoming low.
“Had to handle something. You good?”
Dre nodded, a curly flat-top with a tattoo trailing up the side of his neck. Dre had a more closer and personal relationship with the connect so when Dre got a drop, she got a drop, it came to him and he delivered it to her. She’d honestly only met the actual connect a handful of times but it frequently comes from Dre who wasn’t much older than her, only sharing a year age difference with him being 22. That always met up in this spot and hot-boxed till they couldn’t breathe. “He gave me a lil more this time.” Dre was reaching into the backseat, pulling the familiar tote from it and unzipped the bag. “I’m starting to do further drops, be going outta state to sell to certain offices and shit. You won’t believe how much the legit workers love getting high—dude tipped me like five hundred just for dropping it off, they give out money like crazy.”
The stash looked excessive in the worst way. Not the college dealer excessive that Paige had been on the last year but more dangerous excessive. Brick after brick wrapped tight in cloudy plastic, labels scribbled in marker across the front like runtz, gelato, names written fast like actual inventory instead of weed. There were too many scales. Too many lighters. Too much cash folded into rubber bands beside other things of weed, her eyes went over all the options in amazement. “This could be you if you stop being so fucking scary.” Paige kissed her teeth, instantly stale facing. “Don’t start with me bro, I’m good with doing what I’m doin.” Dre was pulling out the part of the supply that was hers only which involved her usual inventory with weed and dab pens, more firmer wax and a few eddies in their own packaging.
“I ain’t say you weren’t I’m just saying it’s money waiting to be collected.”
Paige shook her head, bringing the blunt to her lips again, inhaling deep before blowing it out. “I gotta lay low for a minute. Cops going crazy at UConn, they get one whiff on me on campus and they sending the whole fucking department.”
Dre laughing made her look upside his head, holding her middle finger shortly after. “I heard about the arrest too by the time I tried to come get you right, they said you was already gone.”
Paige nodded. “I wasn’t in for long. This shit just slowing my supply, I can’t even show my face for long before they try to get me.”
She handed the blunt back after awhile using her bookbag to stuff her new supply inside. “You’re talented at this shit, why you acting like you not?” Paige eyebrows frowned softly, looking over at him only briefly before she returned to stuffing. “How many times we gone go through this?”
“However many till you finally agree.” Paige smirked, shaking her head just to finally zip her bookbag close and sit it back at her feet.
“My answer still the same. I got other shit I gotta do, I can’t be tied that deep. Selling weed ain’t no better but that shit better than all the extras. I’m good with where I’m at, this is enough for me.”
“Yeah well you can keep playing student if you want, you’ll figure out who you really are eventually.” The statement wasn’t supposed to be taken with any offense the blonde knew he was just talking out his ass and high as hell like how he’d always do. She didn’t have to explain shit after that as they gathered the small rotation with another blunt after that one like nothing even happened.
Dre offered to drop her off back at campus but anybody could still see her inside of the car making her take that same backway that would take her to UConn. Dre even offered his couch for her again but she was tired of being around him all the time too if it wasn’t to get paid, he was an associate at most that she made money with. Paige knew not to befriend it depend on anyone to much just because they talked life into you, he was just a process of the connect and he’d stay that way.
She was the plug but nobody could understand the shit she’s witnessed.
It was supposed to be something fun, something that could get her new clothes, something she was finally in charge of. Paige had got lucky with her writing scholarship offering full housing, everything covered with her graphic design major. The blonde use to draw for fun or write poetry just because she couldn’t get a certain line out of her mind but she was slowly shifting from that freshmen girl to something completely different now. It was only one person in her life who always looked at her the same though no matter her situation and she’d been thinking about her all day.
Her bookbag still on her back as she chewed on the polar ice Extra gum, her eyes droopy from the blunts that sat in her system now. It also made her walk slow, head movements to a minimum as she walked throughout the campus property for only a second before being able to go around and take the backway to get inside. She hadn’t spoken with her all day but she missed her and didn’t want to sleep anywhere else tonight. Paige kept steady feet just as she kept herself still covered with the alley way just waiting for somebody to come around the corner, when she seen the boy walking in, she moved quick. “Ay, free zip to let me in?”
Paige slipped inside so easy after the exchange and went on her way to Azzi’s dorm.
Paige had pulled the golden key that Azzi gave her, using it to unlock the door and push it open. The smell of all Azzi hit her nose, her room always smelled so sweet just as she gently closed the door behind her. The golden hue from the lights allowed her to find Azzi easy, she was tucked on her side with both hands underneath her head. Paige watched her briefly, seeing her side go up and droop down shortly after, she looked so peaceful that she didn’t even wanna wake her.
Three days being too long with going without her. It was just so much she had going that couldn’t be explained through messages.
Paige was unzipping her jacket, undressing as she stepped to her now, coming out of her shoes. The blonde didn’t even have an excuse to not be in her dorm tonight, at this rate, she was just choosing not to. Paige sat her jacket on the back of the chair, inching closer. “Azzi.” Paige said softly, the gum still in her mouth as when she finally reached her, rubbing her hand against her naked arm that was visible from the oversized shirt she wore. It made her stir, only a little though like she felt something tickling her before she decided with going back to sleep but Paige leaned down pressing soft lips to the side of her cheek. The way Azzi had been lying down, she was in the middle of the bed but her legs started to move first before she heard the girl groan.
Paige lifted then blue hues going over her face as Azzi eyes shortly fluttered open. The expression she had was so sleepy but she watched her brown eyes glow with seeing her, both arms coming around her neck just to pull her closer. It made Paige breathe out a laugh, squeezing her back just as tight when she felt her fingers already moving to her scalp. “You smell like weed.” Azzi voice was soft as she said it before laughing afterwards and Paige only straightened up, a smooth laugh coming from her too. “Just take it off and lay with me.” Azzi scooted backwards whilst Paige stripped down to her boxers this time and Azzi even pulled back her blanket, allowing her to slip inside next to her easy.
As soon as she was in bed the brunette had her pressed up against her again, she even lifted a leg to drape it across her hip so she could be closer. Paige continued to lay kisses to wherever she could reach; Azzi felt it at her cheeks before she went to her chin, she kept her eyes closed as she felt her lips on her face repeatedly. “You so cold, where you been?” Azzi questioned finally allowing her eyes to open, only slightly though, that sleepy hue still in her pupils as a finger traced the strap of her sports bra. “At a friends the past couple of days. Needed some time to think for a minute but I’m here now.” Paige spoke back, their voices soft in the night, meshing with the fan that twirled in alternating circles around the room.
Paige slightly shrugged. “I just got a re-up. I’ll be on campus this week, don’t worry.” As much as she didn’t even want to, she hated being to long without her now. The past two days have only been fulfilled of the brunette in her mind, it was crazy how she’d put anything or anyone on pause for this girl. Azzi hummed, she didn’t even wanna hear about it making her head lift a bit, lips puckering for the blonde to meet her in the middle. The kisses they shared tonight were very soft, stopping for only a few seconds before one of them leaned in again with Paige gently caressing the thigh that was draped over her.
Azzi had always been the one to fall asleep first, everytime, soon as she felt her body get heavier against her own is when she knew the girl was down for the count. Paige only shifted slightly to her back making her secure on her chest with both arms wrapped around her, two fingers mindlessly twirling her curls between her fingers. It was so safe here. As she stared up at the ceiling the only thing she could think about is how her life could never fit with her own, they were polar opposites to everyone around them and if people ever found out she was fucking with her she knew nobody would like it.
Nobody’s opinion should matter but it would. Paige seen herself with this girl forever meaning she had to meet friends, family, parents, all of it.
How would they feel to know their daughters in love with a dealer?
When Azzi woke up the next morning it wasn’t the usual sound of the birds chirping outside of her window or her alarm going off to make her first class of the day. It was the noise of her film that she could spot out whenever she heard it that awoke her; her head could only lift first, turning it to see the blonde sitting at the edge of her bed with her computer in her lap. She wasn’t even going over the scenes that had already been finished and edited, instead, she was going over the part they recoded on Sunday. Paige was so engrossed into the screen that she couldn’t even see the way Azzi was watching her, finally getting a chance to see her when she woke up.
Paige’s hair wasn’t trimmed in a neat way but the way it’d always be so straight and bright whenever she saw her, had to be her favorite feature. Paige was leaning her back against the wall, computer in her lap securely with a thumb sitting on her chin like she was really watching her stories. Azzi eyes trailed down to her arms that she once thought carried absolutely no muscle, she didn’t even look like she was that strong with her somewhat lanky figure but she overly was. She didn’t get back dressed completely, leaving her shirt off but pulled her sweats back on her. The rise and fall of her chest should’ve been nothing but even the simple breaths coming from her was already making her crazy, she admired her for as long as she could before Paige felt her eyes making the blonde head turn slowly.
They locked hues making a smile spread across Paige’s face first. “Good morning.”
“Hello.” Azzi said, leaning up a bit more so she could reach her phone, she picked it up seeing it was eight in the morning. The first class she had on Thursdays was at noon making her sit up accordingly so she can lean against her headboard, seeing how she still didn’t bother closing out the scenes with her wake.
“What’re you doing?” Azzi’s brunette curls were pulled back into a ponytail before she went to sleep, her face still somewhat swole from her sudden wake but pretty all around nonetheless. Paige especially thought so when she looked over at her again at her question, seeing her thighs only showing and the rest of her legs hidden from her blanket. “I never got a chance to really look at it and I seen your computer, it got the best of me.” Paige shrugged just to look back at the computer, holding it to keep it secured on her lap from Azzi moving.
“You know Professor Clark has been asking about you crazy. We have a spoken word project coming up soon now, if you present it, it’s extra points on our final.”
Paige fingers pulled at her lip, blinking at the information. “She allowing parters?”
Azzi quickly shook her head. “Not this time.“
“Remember when you wrote that poem for our project in the beginning of the semester?” Paige snickering. “You remember that shit? I can’t even remember what I wrote.” The blonde spoke honestly.
“I do, remember? ‘The Reason we Love’, it was beautiful. You could kill that shit Paige, it’ll probably give you brownie points for missing class.”
Her head came up this time again, looking over at her. “Yeah. I’m a try to stop missing so many days in a row but I can’t guarantee I’ll be there Monday.” Azzi eyes squinted. “She’ll start taking it to the dean Paige, I don’t want you to get in trouble over something so simple as this. You know how hard Clark is on attendance—anything could,” The blonde was moving with the computer put to the side now as she pushed herself up the bed, somewhat crawling making both of her arms stay on the side of her and Azzi’s legs comfortable underneath her. The brunette head only raised a bit to keep her eyes on her, a small silence as they just took a few seconds to look at one another, Paige could hear her getting upset, the last thing she needs her upset about her wellbeing.
Azzi’s protest was gone completely now with her being as close, it was something about being in her space like this. Her hands found the blondes arms easy, more so distracted from the actual problem until Paige spoke up. “I’ll work on it then. I’ll try to make it all the time and I’ll be there tomorrow, okay?” Azzi nodded her head. “Okay.” The conformation coming from her made Paige lean forward just a bit more for their lips to finally meet, Paige couldn’t give a damn of her just waking up, she still kissed her lips at that same breathtaking tempo she always did. Azzi melted, her legs widening beneath them both so she could adjust herself downwards and make her back hit her fluffy pillows.
Paige was pressing herself against the warmth between Azzi’s legs, snapping her hips abruptly every few seconds like she was fucking into her unexpectedly. It was the gasps that she let out everytime that was so soft letting her know she felt it that made her so wet, that’s when Paige felt her hands guiding her hips in a way just to press them against her clothed pussy further to feel more pressure. Azzi was moaning against the blondes pink lips when she continued to grind herself against her yet before she could even grind her own hips upward—the ringing phone sounded, it was the certain ringtone that came from Paige’s connect making her lift quicker than she meant to.
The spell between them had broke making Azzi groan as Paige went through her bag to find her phone. It wasn’t even Dre calling, the other unsaved number she had in her phone was from the actual connect, Simon. “Who is it?” Paige lifted her eyes to Azzi, looking back down at the phone just to see if she should lie. “My friend, one sec.” Paige tossed her shirt over her head completely and slid her shoes back on her feet before stepping out of the dorm without looking back, she only went a few strides down the hall before she answered it and put it to her ear.
“Where are you?” The music in Simon’s background was overwhelming, his voice hard to make out making Paige’s head lower somewhat, holding her other ear to hear better. “Class.” She kept her answer simple, lifting her head occasionally to make sure the hall had stayed clear of any lingering ears. It was a short pause after her answer just to hear his condescending laugh in her ear like shit was truly funny, he was dying for a good second before he seemed to have straightened up.
“Class?” Paige recited again. “Yes, class.”
“I need to see you,” Simon started, his voice switching to that serious octave again making her eyes briefly close. “I have a reaal important matter I need to discuss with you, something we can’t talk about over the phone. I’ll send a car to come pick you up in ten minutes, if I don’t see you in ten, you gone make me look for you. And, that’s not something we want now is it?” Paige brought a single hand from her ear to rub at her temples, letting out a deep breath just as her eyes came up to see the other students holding onto their books, chatting about the college life itself but then here she was. She was having this type of problems and conversations with shit she didn’t even see herself fit for anymore, she cleared her throat, moving a few more paces down to get out of earshot.
“This can’t wait?” Paige questioned.
It was that same laugh again, she hated that laugh so fucking much. He laughed like somebody who was already finalizing their decision, the line fulfilled with his crackling for a minute this time before she heard his voice. “Whatever little college life you tryna have goin’ for yourself can wait. The car will be there in five minutes, have your ass in it or make me come to you.” The line disconnected exactly after that making her pull the phone away from her ear, her jaw tensed as she ran her hand down her face from frustration.
Nothing else, no valuable explanation for this conversation, no argument provided, she was just an expectation who’s known to provide.
The worst part of it all is that she knew that she had no choice and she’d have to go, just how she’d always did.
