Hi~~! Could you explain why you think that the relationship between Mika and Yuu represents romantic love rather than "familial love"?
Okay anon!
First of all, let me explain you what a trope is!
Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members’ minds and expectations.
To make it short: writers use them to know what the audience wants, thus they’re tools to gain more attention towards the show.
“Love tropes”, though, are like… references! They use them to know what we want to see in a couple. Tragic couples who seem to care about each other more than about themselves always make a show more attractive for people to watch.
Then, why add so many romantic tropes to two characters who don’t have romantic feelings towards each other?
Three or two of those romantic hints can’t make people believe a couple could be official. If Mika and Yuu only had a “familial love” then there wouldn’t be so many romantic hints. If it’s all fanservice then that would make their whole relationship fanservice, which sounds very disappointing.
Think about this:
Why did Mika ask Yuu and Yuu only what his favorite food was to trade his blood for him? Why not Akane or the others?
Why did Yuu wait for Mika that night and then went all “whatever” when he came home?
Why did Yuu get so angry when he found out Mika was trading his blood but didn’t react the same way when he saw Shinoa’s bite marks if she is his “love interest”?
Why doesn’t he show any interest in females in the manga but they’re trying to change this in the anime?
Why does Ferid tease Mika about Yuu like he has a crush on him?
Why did Mika react that way when Ferid implied he wasn’t drinking human blood because of Yuu?
Why do they blush at each other so many times?
Why do they think about each other all the time?
Why didn’t Yuu move on? Why did he think more about Mika than the rest of his family?
Why did the demons use Mika’s figure to control him? Why did they try to make as much physical contact as possible? Why did Asuramaru say Mika was Yuu’s soft spot?
Why did Yuu blush when Mika carried him? Why is it that Mika always carries him bridal style?
Why did Yuu say Mika was the main reason he wanted revenge for their family in episode 5? Why does Yuu forget about his hatred for vampires when he is told a vampire helped Mika?
Why did Mika bite his neck when Yuu had cut his wrist? And, if you tell me “he did the same with Krul, because he was too thirsty”, then why didn’t he push Yuu away afterwards like he did with Krul?
Why does he give in to everything Yuu wants instead of simply taking him away?
Why does the fanbook imply Mika doesn’t have interest in the opposite sex? Why was Yuu’s answer “shut up”? Why is Mika Yuu’s main interest? Why is Yuu Mika’s main interest?
Why did Yuu blush and soften his gaze when Mika bit him even though being bitten is described as something painful? Why were both of them blushing whem Mika finished drinking?
Why is Yuu Mika’s reason to live?
Why make the opening and the ending be Yuu and Mika’s thoughts towards each other?
Why make the second opening sing “I look up to the sky and imagine your smile” at the very same moment Mika does exactly what the song says?
Why is Mika comfortable with living together with Yuu for the rest of his life hiding in the countryside?
Why does Mika go to the point of getting himself stabbed so many times, not only to protect Yuu, but in order to avoid him the guilt of have killed a friend?
Maybe some of these things alone would look like something friends would do but put all of them together and tell me it doesn’t sound like a love story.
I believe people say they’re “just brothers” because they can’t explain how two male characters can be so close.
And, don’t come and try to use the “they call each other family” with me because:
They aren’t even related by blood
Yuu calls the Squad and all of his friends “family”.
Saying it’s different because they lived in the same building for 4 years is terribly stupid.
Akane was in love with Mika thus the last statement is more than invalid.
They never called each other “brother” once.
Mikayuu can be seen as a platonic ship too, it’s up to you, but you can’t deny the proof and say their interactions can’t be romantic :/ it’s too much. Especially if the author considers yuu//noa interactions romantic. If that’s romantic then Mika and Yuu are married.
Owari no Seraph: Nagoya Kessen-hen | Opening
Friendly reminder: the opening is about Mika and Yuu.
Lyrics: [X]
This is Yuu’s part, so we have to wait the full version for Mika’s.
Accept it or not, but MikaYuu is a real thing, platonic, romantic or both, their love is real and mutual. MikaYuu is an important part of the plot. They could have put a song like Orarion but we got again a MikaYuu song which sounds pretty romantic if you ask me.
Also, “two souls” = soul-mates. Bye.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Mika and I tried to put in his shoes to understand his feelings for Yuu, so here some thoughts about it.
We see that when they were little their relationship was more a brotherly kind, Mika was like “the eldest brother who takes care of the family”.
After he got turned into a vampire he simply wanted to die, because knowing Yuu escaped safely he had no reason to keep living as a monster. But when he came to know that Yuu was being experimented on he knew he couldn’t die before saving his friend first.
The cover of chapter 11 finally revealed one of Mika’s inner thoughts and we know his sole reason to live is Yuu, everything revolves around him only.
We don’t know what happened in those 4 years (we’ll know more when the novel about Mika comes out), but we’re sure his mind has been filled with thoughts about Yuu. Yes, thinking about the same person every day, wanting to see them and save them. For 4 long years. And we could say Yuu went through something very very similar because he had been dreaming of Mika and his death a lot in those 4 years until he saw him alive, but the difference is that while Yuu got motivation to keep living from Guren and dwells with humans, Mika was forced to live with vampires he hates and started to feel hatred toward humans as well.
About Ferid’s way of teasing Mika, we can’t tell if he’s just joking or he seriously thinks Mika holds romantic feelings for Yuu. I just thought that “angel” may be a reference to the fact Yuu is a seraph, but of course “your precious princess” has no other meanings.
And now let’s talk about some recent scenes of the manga.
At the end of chapter 31, after he kills the 5 vampires who were accompanying him, he smiles with blood on his cheek while saying “I found you, Yuu”. Such a yandere vibe, right? Mika isn’t yandere, but he does have yandere characteristics like wanting to kill everyone to protect his beloved and his “obsession” for his beloved.
In chapter 36 we see how much it pains Mika to bite his family and turn into a monster (as Ferid said, Mika also doesn’t want Yuu to hate him) and after that he even gets embarassed.
Yuu is the only person who gave Mika warmth, who smiled sincerely at him, who made him laugh and make weird facial expressions he had forgotten he could make, after 4 years of sufferring.
If we put in his shoes, what kind of feeling would we hold toward a person who’s our obsession, who makes us feel this way and who’s the only reason we’re still holding on? Does Mika really think of him as family or not only that?
OK so I was thinking like what if Mika does turn back into a human and he eats food for the first time in four years, and he was so so overwhelmed with nostalgia that he starts crying.
i know this will never happen in canon but let a girl dream
Ah yes, tell me how they aren’t gay
