This video touches my heart so deeply because it is in sharp contrast to the reality of eldercare in our country. "The U.S. ranked at or near the bottom in many categories, including access, affordability, timeliness of care, and care coordination." Health Affairs.
18% of the population are over 65. Average social security payments: $1400 to $1700, not a liveable income, so retirement is impossible. Medicare is a joke. Society ignores our seniors in every way, politically, socially, legally, health & human services. Many are isolated. Most must choose between groceries & prescriptions. Not everyone has an IRA, pension, 401k, & if they do, they've cashed out to pay medical bills. Other countries revere their elderly & multigenerational family living.
Here in the U.S., the elderly are the forgotten, silent generation, thrown away. Politicians don't rally for their rights. We all want to live a long life... yet look at what's waiting for us.
Shameful.
