Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things S05E08 The Rightside Up (Epilogue)
The funniest thing watching volume 1 was thinking wow they lowkey fumbled almost everything but at the very fucking least they're doing byler. And then they didnt do byler
im never getting over the fact that el’s suicide was the wrong ending, and the story was telling us that the whole time. i love a good doomed character. i love a good tragic storyline. el was not that character and she was not going to have that storyline. her arc was consistently about her being told she could not live a normal life, and her pushing back against that idea, and reclaiming what normalcy she could. from her fixations on romance and femininity, to her sneaking out to hang out with friends in season 2 and 3, and her struggling to fit in at school in season 4. these things were never presented to us as futile or stupid, she was correct to want these things and to take them for herself. her story was always about her taking agency back from her abuser(s), and if i think about season 5 for too long i start to get sick to my stomach

Stranger Things 5x04. Sorcerer
I'll always be disappointed about the Mike and Will of it all regarding the show and season 5 in particular, but I'll always be even more disappointed and upset about the season overall not being interesting to me. Ruining the lore and mystery, having the UD be that and the MF be that and Henry's plan being lame and nonsensical. That's worse to me because it makes the rest of the seasons lead to bullshit. I can salvage relationships and characters in fandom. Byler is easy, Mike is an easy fix, too. All that plot??? I don't like what we got (and I don't have to like it!) and I'm weary to be tasked with dealing with all that...
walking was never an option
byler collabing on a comic book series will always be dear to my heart but what about byler collabing on a video game where Will does the art and animation and Mike codes the game logic (because people always forget that the boy loves science and technology)

just more personal fandom reflection rambles, but I also think this whole appeal to authority in fandoms -- especially with shipping fandoms -- is really interesting and a good example of how logical fallacies can be used even in lower-stakes situations.
I'm sure anyone who spent time in the fandom in the past four years would have seen some variation of the "I'm a lawyer/film student/psychologist and I'm 100% sure Byler will happen and anyone who disagrees has poor media literacy" argument. I think it's important to remember that you can be employed in an area that requires lots of reading and media consumption and still have poor media literacy. OR (and I think this is quite common irl too), you can have generally good media literacy across the board but still have a blind spot and bias surrounding one particular ship/media/topic due to your emotional investment in it. I know people in my personal life who have entire science degrees and yet believe some completely stupid conspiracy theories becaue of their own biases. And my final point is really just to remember that even if someone is a big name fan, even if they're highly-educated with proper qualifications, they are still just a fan. Their opinions are just their opinions. Being a lawyer or psychologist doesn't mean they're privy to any more information than any other average fan. Remember to think for yourself and all, and that it's okay to disagree with these big accounts

Okay, that’s IT. As a bisexual ranch dressing supporter I just can’t continue to follow you in good conscience. Why do you industrial carpet shippers all think it’s okay to use bland women as a scapegoat for premium disco culture? Maybe if you actually bothered to read the ukranian degeneracy thesis you’d understand batman’s suntan technique, but I guess you’re just too busy making free insurance consultation posts, so whatever. Blocked, flambéed and unfollowed.
