She/her, 21y, š³ļøāš, I never shipped before; not until I met Byler Byler will be my first and last ship. Most beautifully written love story ever
āWhy do you want byler when you have rovickie? Thereās already representation in the showā
Why do you want lumax, jancy, (stancy), mileven or jopper when you already have Dustin and Suzie?????!!! Be grateful, Dustin and Suzie are already almost too much representation of straight ppl, get them away from my screen ffs /ironic
I donāt like ppl that say āitās getting embarrassing / you are so embarrassing / stop embarrassing usā etc about conformity gate. Itās not us who should be embarrassed, itās the duffer brothers. I donāt believe in conformity gate, but one thing I loved about this fandom were all the theories, so I love reading about this theory even if Iām pretty sure itās not true. Let us enjoy it
Does anyone know any good fanfics with Mike getting vecnad or just any where Mike is central focus dealing with his internalised homophobia. or wiseone parallell (byler/ācan move defeat fearā related)?
would this be a weird time to ask if you have any good queer media recommendations? anything by queer authors/creators honestly i just think i need a break from all this and i trust you
I do, actually. Thank god for gay art.
(All of these stories have happy endings. I think we need happy stories rn)
Colour meanings: lesbian / gay / trans / other (both gay and lesbian, etc)
Books:
My insta-read author (aka, if they write it, I will read it) for gay romcoms is Casey McQuiston. Red, White & Royal Blue and One Last Stop are so good. You may have heard stuff about rwrb, but trust me on this, itās so good. Itās my favorite romance, thereās something about the characters, how real they feel, how their relationship evolves, that just does it for me. I find both books very romantic, mixing mental health, romance, sex positivity, gay history, and found family in a way thatās just great. They tend to be a little inspired by other works (rwrb is really inspired by Pride & Prejudice, for example) in a way that makes it very interesting to analyze (details actually matter here, unlike in stranger things, apparently). I think the reason I love their books so much is because theyāre like a late 90s/early 2000s romcom (the best romcoms). Iām really into them, if you couldnāt tell. Youāll find a lot of rwrb analysis on my account so thereās that.
(Casey also has other books like I Kissed Shara Wheeler (ya) and The Pairing but theyāre not my favorites. They are currently writing another romcom with a lesbian knight! Very excited for it. Also, donāt watch the Red, White & Royal Blue movie. Trust me on this. Youāre better off not watching it)
Maurice by E.M Forster I mean duh so good.
The Miseducation of Cameron Post. That book is SO GOOD, definitely one of my favorites than I read last year. Itās not a romance, even if it includes romance elements, itās a coming of age. Cameron is one of my favorite main characters, definitely. Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo is very good too. 1950s, coming of age, lesbian bars.
The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White is a good horror book, set in 1883, with a trans mc (and a trans love interest too), and anger, a lot of anger. Itās a very angry book. It also has an autistic mc!
Iāve read Babylove by I.S. Belle this October too, and itās pretty good. I only read the first book but itās a trilogy of novellas surrounding a lesbian couple made out of a goth girl and a cheerleader during 2003, meanwhile supernatural things happen. The closest thing I can compare it to is Lisa Frankenstein and Jenniferās Body (you get the vibe?). The author also has other books with lesbian couples and supernatural stuff.
Hidden Path by Elena FortĆŗn. Written sometime in the 1940s by a spanish writer, while the author was exiled, itās a book very inspired by the authorās life, about Maria Luisa, a girl who grows up in 1900s Spain as a lesbian (even though she doesnāt realize until later in life). It has a happy ending.
+ (havenāt read)
Young Mungo - a coming of age of a young boy as he deals with his sexuality, his love for another boy, growing up as working class, etc. I think this one is sad but Iāve heard so many good things that I couldnāt not add it.
Girl Next Door by Rachel Meredith, a romcom about a woman who discovers her childhood neighbor wrote a romance book, and the characters are surprisingly similar to them, despite the fact that they were never truly friends.
The Angel and the Perverts by Lucie Delarue-Mardrus, lesbian and gay circles of Paris, 1920s. A āhermaphroditeā (an intersex person) born to an upper class family, living a double life as a woman in the lesbian literary salons, and a man in the gay cocaine dens.
The Duke's Sister and I - Emma-Claire Sunday. One of those regency romances. Sheās supposed to marry a duke but ends up falling for his sister. Incredibly cliche (Iām sorry, I love a good romcom). Iāve heard this one has a lot of queer joy. Some gay history itās sprinkled in it, like underground clubs and such, and itās just very positive. Another cliche feel-good historical romance: Two Rogues Make a Right by Cat Sebastian. Childhood friends, taking care of each other while sick, etc.
A Horse Named Sorrow by Trebor Healey. Seamusā partner Jimmy dies of AIDS, and Seamus sets out by bicycle on a picaresque journey with the ashes, hoping to bring them back to Buffalo. He meets a bunch of people who give him a new perspective on his own life and on Jimmy's death. Idk if this one is happy (it doesnāt sound like it) but all reviews are very positive and it looks interesting.
The Jasmine Throne, an Indian-inspired fantasy, where a captive princess and her maidservant try to save their empire (and fall in love).
The Naked Civil Servant - Quentin Crisp, a memoir of a gay man who was out during 1930 and 1931.
Bad Girls by Camila Sosa Villada, coming of age of a trans woman in Argentina, and the trans sex workers she meets on the way. This same author also has a collection of short stories called Iām a Fool to Want You, with lgbt characters.
The Snowball Effect by Haley Cass. I canāt believe I havenāt read anything by Haley Cass yet but it is what it is. Reganās roommate hates her, and Regan is really trying to make it work (even though her roommate is not cooperating). Whatās even worse, her mom comes over one day and seems convinced that Regan and her roommate are dating?? Classic romcoms trope. I also wanna book by her, On The Same Page, with friends to lovers.
The Queens' Ball by Copi, āSet among the flamboyant demi-monde of the 1970s Paris underground, The Queens' Ball follows the narrator Copi in his attempt to write a novel as life comes undone around him. His Roman lover Pietro is stolen by a Marilyn Monroe impersonator whose coterie take up residence in Copi's flat and pump out low-budget pornographic rags and films. His friends leave him, burnt out from the theatrical excess of the decade. And worst of all his editor keeps calling him, demanding to know where the book is.ā
Valencia - Michelle Tea. This book is a āfast-paced account of one girl's search for love and high times in the drama-filled dyke world of San Francisco's Mission District.ā Early 90s lesbian life.
The Swashbuckler by Lee Lynch, butch main character, life in the gay scene of New York in the 60s/70s, etc
Bad Habit by Alana S. Portero, the coming of age of a trans woman in 1980s/1990s Madrid.
Imogen, Obviously, we all have heard about this book, Iām sure. Lesbian romcom.
Alf by Bruno Vogel (1929). I think this one has a sad ending, but I never see anyone mention it. Told through letters between two boys, detailing their love story since they met to their death. Talks about wwi, pacifism, homophobia (and how stupid it is), etc. It was banned by the nazis.
Greasepaint - Hannah Levene. āSet against a backdrop of 1950s New York, this experimental novel follows an ensemble cast of all-singing, all-dancing butch dykes and Yiddish anarchists through eternal Friday nights, around the table, and at the bar.ā You canāt say that doesnāt sound good.
Comics:
Iām not much of a comic reader, but I do like the occasional one. I am a big fan of Paper Girls, though. Critics like to compare to Stranger Things, and I agree, except the storyline here is actually complex and interesting and details actually matter.
A group of four twelve-year-old girls the morning after Halloween in 1988. Theyāre paper girls. Without meaning to, they get themselves involved in something much bigger than themselves. Time travel, theyāll have to work together to survive. One of the girls is a lesbian, discovers this through the comics, and gets into a relationship with another of the girls (who is lowkey homophobic, mikeās internalized homophobia where did you go). It has a lot of rep, the group is made out of a poor girl, a jewish girl, a black girl, and a chinese girl. KJ is such a great character, if you like Will, youāll like her (despite the fact that theyāre pretty different). Theyāre tough kids, standing on business, cursing, fighting, handling guns, and riding bikes. The story is not misogynistic, unlike Stranger Things.
The comics have a show adaptation! A little different from the comics but still pretty good. A lot of attention is brought to the lesbian relationship in the show which is great, but it sadly only has one season (it got cancelled, whoās surprised). I just need more people to get into Paper Girls, itās SO good.
Jacksonās Diary is a webtoon comic. I never use webtoon, but for some reason I once decided to check this out, and itās very good. Set in 1989, Jackson is starting his senior year at a new high school. Scary, but nothing out of the ordinary. Until strange things start happening. A magical diary, psychic powers (telekinesis, etc), etc etc. Even though Jackson is the mc, a lot of attention is brought to other characters (to the point I would say Jackson shares the mc status with Exer, another character). Therefore, a lot of attention is brought to a gay relationship, happening between two childhood friends, one who thought the other was straight and into his sister (his twin sister btw)⦠reminds you of anyone? I love the way psychic powers are portrayed in the comics, think like Syd from I Am Not Okay With This. You canāt control it, youāre scared of it, you donāt even understand it yourself.
+
I Shall Never Fall In Love - Hari Conner. Jane Austen-inspired comic, set in the regency period, with queer characters.
TV:
Everyone has seen this ones but I just love them so much: I Am Not Okay With This (2020) / But Iām a Cheerleader (1999) / Bottoms (2023) / Young Royals (2021-2024) / Fear Street: 1994 (2021) / Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
There's also A League of Their Own (2022), which I started but didn't finish (not for me). Everyone talks so good about it tho
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994). A must-watch, I think. Two drag queens and a trans woman journeying across the Australian Outback on a tour bus named Priscilla. I think about Bernadetteās little speech every once in a while.
Entre Nous (1983). Occupied France, 1942. A Jewish refugee marries a soldier to escape deportation, and an art student loses her first husband (and marries another). When they meet in 1952, their relationship strains their marriages (because theyāre in love)
Paris Is Burning (1980). A documentary on the 80s black and latino ball-drag scene of New York
Also, Billy Elliot (2000). Technically not gay but really really good regardless. Billyās best friend is gay, and the movie is basically just challenging traditional masculinity.
+ (I barely watch movies. I really need to watch more)
Heated Rivalry - We all have heard good things surrounding Heated Rivalry. I actually havenāt watched it, but I do have read the book! The hype got to me (tiktok edits are really good) and I read it last month. I donāt recommend the book, mainly because I donāt like how itās written (the word sexy is repeated like a hundred times, and Ilya is winking in every page, for some reason), but I do like the characters and the story, and I think Iāll watch the show.
Booksmart (2019). Two best friends, one of them a lesbian, realize that they barely did anything during high school but studying. So, they decide to break the rules and party during their last days before graduation.
The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy (2000). A group of gay friends who are always there for each other.
Dating Amber (2020). Two gay best friends decide to fake date so that no one realizes theyāre gay. Similar to this one thereās Badhaai Do (2022) where a lesbian and a gay man enter a fake marriage to pacify their families.
Show Me Love (1998). Two teenage girls in a small town. A popular girl and a friendless girl. They fall in love, obviously.
Making Love (1982). Zack and Claire are living a perfect marriage⦠except Zack is struggling with his sexuality, and trying to hide it.
Matthias & Maxime (2019). Two childhood best friends kiss for a short film, but they canāt stop thinking about it.
Fresh Kill (1994) - āShareen and Claire, a lesbian couple living on Staten Island, find themselves ensnared in a vast conspiracy involving a ghost ship of nuclear refuse, ominous television commercials, and deadly cat food.ā
Nowhere (1997). Pure camp. āIn Los Angeles, a colorful assortment of bohemians try to make sense of their intersecting lives. The moody Dark Smith, his bisexual girlfriend, her lesbian lover and their shy gay friend plan on attending the wildest party of the year. But they'll only make it if they can survive the drug trips, suicides, trysts, mutilations and alien abductions that occur as one surreal day unfolds.ā
The Living End (1992). Two HIV-positive men tear off on a cross-country crime spree. Full of gay anger.
Girltrash: All Night Long (2014), a musical comedy about 5 girls and one epic night
A Very Natural Thing (1974). An ex-monk gets into a relationship with a man, and they even begin living together, but soon, some problems begins happening inside their relationship.
In & Out (1997). An ex-student makes a remark about a teacherās sexuality, and this teacher canāt help but begin questioning himself.
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995) - 3 drag queens on a road trip across America
Femme (2023) - āJules is a drag artist in London who withdraws into himself and loses his career after a horrific attack. Months later, he recognizes one of his assailants in a gay sauna and quickly realizes he has the perfect opportunity to get revenge.ā
10DANCE (2025). This movie āfollows two men consumed by the world of competitive dance ā driven by passion, rivalry, jealousy, and desireā. What I'm hearing is Competitive dance!Heated Rivalry. Sure, why not.
Saving Face (2004) is a lesbian romcom.
Iāve heard many good things about Pariah (2011) and Moonlight (2016). But I think theyāre kind of bittersweet.
Omg guys. Yk when vecna attacks people they start having nightmares. The whole volume two was just a nightmare Mike had, where he ended up alone. Which means he is being vecnad. Iāll write the real ending.
Im so sad. Does anyone want to like be my friend because I feel so lonely now and even worse when byler is gone and I just feel like I have nothing anymore
Pls can everyone rate the finale 1/10 on IMDb, and spread the message. Someone with a bigger account, spread on Twitter. I donāt want them to fucking get away with the queerbaiting and humiliation.
