Flufftober Day 1: (GhostRoach) Lost Pet, Meet Cute
Pairing: Simon “Ghost” Riley/Gary “Roach” Sanderson
Gary totally hasn’t been freaking the fuck out. It’s not because he’s forgotten his keys, or because he forgot to take his Adderall—no, it’s because there’s a dog tugging at the cloth covering his leg with its brown paws, looking at him with doe eyes and a panting smile.
When you’re in a piss poor mood and open the door to see a happy canine at your doorstep, it would be surprising not to be shocked.
Especially when it’s trying to jumping up to reach the apple nestled in the fruit basket. It’s only when Gary tosses him the apple that he thinks to check the tag attached to its collar (on second thought, maybe he did forget to take his medication), too focused on doting at its adorable features contrasting its large stature.
Examining the engraved words, he lets out a huff of amusement when it tries to nuzzle up against his hands. The tag displays the words “RILEY” with a phone number for “DAD”.
He texts the phone number, unwilling to call a random stranger without an inarguable reason.
<< hey, i think i found your dog
>> Yup, that’s her. Did she cause you any trouble?
<< no, but i did lose an apple in the process!
>> Haha, it’s her favorite.
<< i should probably return her to you
He waits patiently, watching the text bubble appear and disappear, before displaying the location.
Arriving at the address with an obedient dog in tow, he doesn’t text the owner as he’s already opened the door and walking out to greet him.
And heavens, he doesn’t believe in love at first sight…but he can make exceptions. He stands before a blonde, curly-haired, six foot of a man wearing a mask akin to Sanderson’s own.
Scars litter the other man’s features, but the soft crinkle in his eyes when he gazes upon Gary—no, the dog—could make a grown man cry. He hopes the other man blames his flushed face on October winds.
“Was lookin’ for you all mornin’,” the taller man murmurs lowly as he crouches to pet the eager canine, who is practically licking the skin off of his calloused hand.
He catches himself staring for far too long, sending a quick text that sends a buzzing to the pocket of the blonde man’s phone.
>> Name’s Simon. Not much of a talker, are you?
He shakes he head when he looks up, trying to hide the shame that creeps into his expression. He knows it’s out of his control, but he really wishes that he could talk to the handsome man.
“It’s no big deal,” he hears Simon reassure, and somehow, it calms his nerves. He gives an awkward smile, even though it’s hidden beneath his mask.
<< i guess this is my cue to leave
>> Thank you for keeping her safe.
>> Wait, what’s your name?
>> It’s nice to meet you.
He shouldn’t be feeling the warmth spreading throughout his chest and the sudden urge to grin like a madman; it’s only one day in the thousands he’s lived.
But it’s the start of a new beginning.
