Maybe this is just part of being "older" in tcc but it's genuinely so sad to think about how young most perps were and what they were going through. As much as they acted like it was all some big movie and as much as we mythologize them as a community they really were just struggling kids who had so much emotion that wasn't dealt with properly by those around them. Reading dylans writings about suicide and erics issues with society and really acknowledging that they were real teenagers behind it all is honestly just heartbreaking. Its sad to think that they were so close to graduation and leaving it all behind but they saw their actions as the only way out (though its not in anyway justification for what they did). Its hard to digest, knowing that they could harbour so much hate so young that they truly saw violence as their only means of escape and finding worth.
