She tried to fix her hair the best she could without a comb, frustrated sounds escaping her. He tipped his head to her, "This one will bring you a comb next time."
Her eyes met his, pausing at his words. Was he poking fun still? Like she was some uncivilized heathen that couldn't be bothered- Wait, what did he mean 'next time'...? "I have a comb," she muttered softly, as her own thoughts had her insides squirm.
"It's very pretty too, Lord Sesshomaru," Rin wiggled finally up and on her feet. "It's like glass, but Lady Kagome calls it," she couldn't remember the word, her eyes turning to Kagome.
"Yes, yes," she bounced, "That."
He watched her frown when she touched her clothing. It must still be damp. He pulled his inner robe he'd set by the fire to dry, dropping it atop her head in a huff. "Hey," she grumbled, "What was that for?"
She watched him pull his much larger haori across his shoulder, "To wear miko."
She seemed to think a moment. He was lending her his clothing. He knew her clothes weren't dry. She sighed, pulling it on, "Thank you," she murmured.
The boy stood in front of him. Eyes searching the elders, how keen. Sesshomaru dropped to a squat, now eyelevel with the boy, "Kit."
His green eyes refused to falter, even if the movement itself had startled him. "Are you going to buy her a comb," he asked.
His yellow eyes recognized his intelligence, "Perhaps."
Kagome rounded the two, "Come on, Shippo." Her fingers strung through his soft red locks, "He doesn't have to buy anything."
Shippo's eyes didn't break away. He knew a predator when he saw one. And Sesshomaru was a very dangerous one.
He smiled. The boy bristled, "Lady Kagome likes soaps," Rin chirped.
His yellow eyes darted, meeting hers. "No, it's fine," she tried to brush off the weight of his eyes.
He stood, turning to the cave's entrance, Rin twirling around his path. Quickly, she darted back to him.
"Fireflies," Shippo beamed, chasing down the glowing insects.
Kagome knelt by Rin, "They won't hurt you, Rin." The small thing nodded but refused to leave her guardian. "They have chemicals inside themselves that mix," she spoke softly. "It's called bioluminescence," she smiled at the girls curious eyes. "It makes all their little butt's light up," Rin laughed. "The ones flying around are males," she pointed. "The females are usually waiting in the grass," she pushed her hair behind her ear.
"So, the boy bugs are dancing around for the girl bugs?" Kagome nodded, "Rin doesn't like the way their feet feel."
She smiled, "That's okay." She sat in the ground, "You don't have to touch them-"
"Yep," Shippo bounced, "Don't worry! If one lands on you, I'm right here!"
"I don't want to hurt them-"
"Hurt them," Shippo's head tilted, "I may be big now, but I won't hurt them! I just like to catch them," he beamed, "Wanna see?"
She watched Rin follow Shippo about as he collected them delicately. The soft rustle of fabric pulling her attention as he sat by her side. A comfortable silence they shared watching the children. His eyes slipped to her, feeling her bristle. Her startled blue eyes glued to the small bug climbing her leg. Leaning, he delicately smoothed a finger across her skin, coaxing the insect to his finger.
"The great Shikon miko," he chuffed with a smile, "Afraid of a mere insect."
She huffed, her eyes skittering away, "Every bug I have met in this time was tried to kill or maim me, sir."
"That may be," he hummed, "But this time you have this one."
Her eyes shyly returned to him. A small giggle escaping her, "What? The mighty Lord Sesshomaru going to protect me from the from the creepy crawlies?"
"If you wish," he smirked.
She smiled, a small giggle escaping her, "Knight in shining armor, hm?"
He watched her intensely. Her blue eyes tracking the floating lights. A soft light across her tanned skin as her fingers would ebb towards the insect and then pull away, like a teasing tide.
"They're really quite beautiful," she smiled softly, "Even if I can't touch them."
His pupils shined, reflecting the light as his gaze refused to leave her, "Like you."
Her eyes snapped to his as the words left his mouth, her face heating immediately. Caught in his gaze, she swallowed thickly, afraid that any words that fell from her mouth would somehow jumble into a scrambled mess.
His predatory eyes narrowed dangerously, a smile pulling his lips, "Unless...?"
She was so sure her head was so overheated that steam was hissing out her ears. He knew how to flirt, and she didn't know how to process it.
Wait, but look at my lil Shippo (I love himmmmmmm)
