Meant to post this earlier but Happy Cinco de Mayo to everyone! I’m personally still having a hard time with the idea of concerts just not being a thing for the foreseeable future, so I might repost parts of related posters like this Dave & Time Mexico poster from last year on occasion. Although it was expected, it was still a big ol’ bummer to see @davematthewsband announce their 2020 summer tour postponement yesterday, even if it’s really for the best. Crazy how much things can change in a little over a year but I hope everyone is coping and finding new ways to cut loose in this weird new world. Hi everyone. How are you? Hope you’re staying safe in these very strange times.

So since basically all music tours have been cancelled (in addition to pretty much everything else) for at least the next few months, I’ll likely be turning to my backlog of art prints, personal work, and other private projects to keep me busy over the coming weeks, meaning these gig prints will likely constitute my last big concert poster drop for a while so please grab something if you have the interest and means. That being said, absolutely zero pressure to do so if now just isn’t the time (1000% get it) although anything/anyone you can send my way is enormously appreciated as this is a very trying time for many, including independent artists. . First up is my @311 Day 2020 print. I know folks have been asking about my artist drop for a while now, but we’re finally all locked and loaded. The wizards at @endhymns absolutely killed the printing on these AP’s and Rainbow “Inner Light” Foils while the “Grassroots Green” colour way was done by me (and features a glow in the dark layer). . Next are my AP prints from my collab @deathcabforcutie triptych created with fellow gigposter boi Luke Martin @suburban_avenger for the band’s homecoming shows at The Showbox in Seattle, printed perfectly by Andrew at Broken Press @brokenpressdesign. Regular AP posters will be sold as both individual singles and collected sets with a very small number of uncut regs. Gold foil variants will only be sold as sets (no uncuts). Additionally, 10% of proceeds from the first day of sales for these Death Cab posters will be sent to the Seattle-based University District Food Bank @udistrictfoodbank to benefit local folks in need during these trying times. . Business stuff aside, I just hope everyone reading this is somewhere comfortable and spreading cleanliness, kindness, and understanding. Hey everyone! Happy to publicly unveil my piece for the almighty @311’s annual 311 Day in the neon-tinted vista of Las Vegas, Nevada! . The poster depicts an extraterrestrial deity visiting the city of Las Vegas, transforming it and the surrounding Nevada desert into Area 311. Fuelled by THC and burning with positivity, the Hostile Apostle possesses 30 appendages (one for every year of the band’s storied existence) and symbolizes the massive force that is the 311 machine comprising both the band and their fiercely loyal fans. The god’s design is inspired by various Tibetan Buddhist deities (specifically the wrathful Yamantaka whose meditational powers combat anger, hatred, ignorance and death) and strums a Gibson Explorer while perched atop a UFO sound system arrayed with skulls, all ensconced within a mythic, hexagonal portal-frame. The band themselves are also featured at the poster’s base within their own honeycomb windows nestled amongst fields of bud and flower as various Vegas revellers are uplifted into communal Nirvana. Flying saucers, astronauts and strange planets dot the sky and outer space while wisps of heavy smoke and flame further frame the composition, creating a window into a world that I hope 311 fans will heartily enjoy. . Final piece of the triptych drawn by Luke Martin (@suburban_avenger) and yours truly for @deathcabforcutie’s homecoming shows! Apparently the band played all of Transatlanticism front-to-back during last night’s set which is just a show-stopping choice and makes me all the more glad Luke and I made some of the design choices we did with these very special pieces. . This last panel concludes our story in contemplative and reflective fashion, echoed by the pictorial symmetry of the figures inspired by lyrics from Transatlanticism’s opening track ‘The New Year’: . “I wish the world was flat like the old days Then I could travel just by folding a map No more airplanes, or speed trains, or freeways There'd be no distance that can hold us back.” . Very happy with the division of labour we achieved here. Luke’s penchant for emotive landscapes and my own obsession with character and organic elements allowed us not just to really drive down on our specialties, but bounce ideas off one another with reckless abandon as well, which has resulted in one of the most Easter-egg-laden works in either of our respective careers with strong showings in each of our parts. I’ve been saying this to everyone but I really think we achieved something greater than the sum of our individual parts here and I’m really content with and grateful for that. . Another round of thanks to Brittany and Jeff at LN for keeping us on-track while still allowing us to go as hard as possible on this work. And a big thank you to @brokenpressdesign who took this job on last-minute and absolutely killed the printing on these (+thank you to Jess over at @endhymns for the referral!). Aaand of course, big yuge endless thanks to Luke for bringing me onto the project in the first place. Literally the only person I’ve trusted in all the years I’ve been doing this to collab with, which says plenty about what I think of your character and work ethic. . Second [of three] of the triptych drawn by Luke Martin (@suburbanavenger) and myself (yo!) for @deathcabforcutie’s homecoming shows! Jealous I couldn’t be in attendance for the shows but Luke was there last night and he’ll be there again tonight so if you’re in attendance, be sure to give him his props! . When we took this on, both of us agreed to focus primarily on the landmark album Transatlanticism which details the breakdown of a relationship (and is Luke’s favourite overall album) and leans heavily on some very personal themes. This second panel represents the next chapter in our shared narrative about a couple finding themselves in a kind of separation. Plenty of us have experience with relationships that feel defined by distance (mental, metaphorical, physical or otherwise). Personally as a metropolitan city-dweller, this piece represents to me the modern desire to maintain connection when beset against the backdrop of an ever-flourishing concrete gold rush that threatens to bury us in isolation and unfamiliarity. Really glad to have been able to express a real sentiment I actually struggle with like this. All interpretations are very welcome though as Luke and I did our best to balance our illustration with ambiguity with style to create an image that you can keep coming back to again and again just like the crow on that legendary album cover. . Apparently last night’s merch copies sold well but Luke and I will have prints of our own to sling in the near future. Extremely proud to reveal the latest poster: a first-time collaborative effort between Luke Martin (@suburbanavenger) and myself (hi!) for the one and only @deathcabforcutie! This is the first of three posters for a set of intimate hometown shows which will feature songs spanning the band’s back catalogue, so it’s a special event and an enormous honour to be attached to. This marks the first time I’ve ever collaborated with another artist on a gigposter in my nearly seven years(!!!) of doing this, and I can’t think of a better person to have done so with than Luke, whose beautiful architectural and nostalgia-inspired style complements my own gestural figures and psychedelic textures to a tee. • Big thanks to Brittany and Jeff at LN for allowing us full creative control over this project and really letting us go full tilt with this collaboration and big thanks to Luke for bringing me onto this project which represents an enormous breath of fresh air to me personally as well as a new benchmark of quality to strive for.
