I feel like not enough people talk about the fact that “trump” literally means “fart” in Britain. Like, “Trump” doesn’t sound like a rich, powerful name at all, it is actually synonymous with excrement particles being released from an arsehole.
I need help
I had such a long day today that I started getting highly emotional just THINKING about Ed Miliband earlier. Is that bad? :/ I mean I was literally welling up.
When you lose the election but your missus says she’ll take you for a cheeky nandos since you tried your best
Does anyone else have the urge to give jeremy corbyn a hug and tell him not to listen to the nasty tories
27th febuary 1900: the British labour party is founded.
The labour party grew out of the Trade union movement who fought for more rights for the working man. It was also formed out of lowkey socialist parties of the 20th century who had no representation in parliament. the party won only two seats in the house of commons in the 1900 election. However the following year the party rose to 29 seats in parliament and these small victories helped the party to grow each election. In 1924 the party formed a coalition will the liberals.
Britain had its first labour prime minister in Ramsay macdonald. Macdonald had pacifist values and hated war. This made him popular among the people and showed the more peaceful side of the empire, however he was kicked out in 1925.
During ww2 the major parties formed a coalition government. To help fight hitler and put aside their differences to stand true in the face of fascism. Clement attlee served as deupty prime minister in churchills wartime government. He then swept labour to election victory in 1945 generating the biggest vote swing in british history of 12%. Clement attlees government gave everyone free healthcare and founded the welfare state giving people social security and child benefit. The next labour prime minister harold wilson brought britain into a technological revolution and james callaghan who stood tall in Ireland and Europe.
Labour spent 18 years in the wilderness of the opposition benches the leaders michael foot and neil kinnock where ravaged by the right wing press for being to old and stuffy for britain. Following a series of slip ups such as neil kinnock falling over on the beach and michael foots election manifesto being called the longest suicide note in history. The party suffered numerous defeats at the hands of margaret thatcher and john Major until 1997.
Tony blair was swept into power in a landslide victory. A new young and fresh leader spinned his way into number 10. He intervened in the yugoslavian genocide, kept the british pound safe, introduced the minimum wage gave extra powers to scotland, wales and ireland. Truimphed in northern ireland being peace after 30 years of war in belfast. He moved the party to the right rebranding the party as “new labour”. He jumped down the rabbit hole with george bush into the iraq war, something not to be proud of.
The torch was passed to gordon brown in 2007 and his economic expertise helped save britain from financial collpase. However clumisly he saved britain from falling over the edge. Followed by ed miliband as leader of the labour party, removed from office after 15 years in power. Ed tried to fix the mistakes of the past but failed. Now the labour party has jeremy corbyn. Taking labour back to its true socialist roots, due to the unpopularity of the current government, who knows what the future will hold?
