ABOUT THE TROPE: He was a Jerk he was a Jock can I make it any more obvious. No, I’m kidding. Milo is not an easy person to get along with. He’s rude, he’s outspoken, he’s extremely critical when people are not up to his standards which are way to high to ever meet. He calls it passion, some people call it being an asshole. Both is true. He’s not afraid of being a bit of a bully, he’s not ashamed to intimidate another person if he needs to. Or even sometimes just because he can be. Because he gets away with it. They’re in college, what is someone going to do cry to a professor about it? Grow up. You’ll never get anywhere in life if you can’t stand up for yourself - that’s the lesson Milo goes by, because that’s the lesson his own father attempted to drill into his head from when he was old enough to learn anything. That’s likely unsurprising for anyone to hear if they ever do, but not everyone’s problems are all that unique. Sometimes it stems from a father who disguised his abuse and constant pressure to be perfect as making sure his son would achieve as much as he could possibly achieve. Milo was able to do just that. Going pro in tennis at the age of 16, and getting into a school as good as Ogden (likely only due to his skills in tennis and other sports). It’s not so out of the ordinary for a person who didn’t grow up with anything else, to turn around and do the exact same to everyone around him.

RELATIONSHIP WITH GREER: Milo met Greer the summer before their first year at Ogden at a retreat the Tennis team held for the new players to the team. They were paired as doubles a few times, and worked better with each other than they did with anyone else. From then on whenever there was an option to pick partners the two of them picked each other. Their relationship grew from there, both working well together while not exactly getting along. There is a saying that you should always surround yourself with people who challenge you, and won’t agree with everything you say or do. That was Greer and Milo. He valued their relationship more than almost anyone else, but that did not mean they weren’t at each other’s throats constantly. Both of them being strong willed, forceful personalities it was like a tornado meeting a forest fire, that could explode at any moment. The passion they both brought to the court made for a great partnership, but Milo was never sure if he would ever call them ‘friends’. That doesn’t mean they weren’t close. Most of Milo’s closest relationships are antagonistic in some way or another, after all.

He was dared by G at Greer’s Birthday Pool Party to confess if he had ever … coveted another’s girlfriend. He was going to do it but chickened out.

Because of that G framed him for being … G. He’s not.

He found a weird redacted clue during the Halloween Haunted House.

Maybe Milo had a point. That there were things going on that were bigger than them, right now. If he remained angry at him was he not letting G get away with whatever the fuck it was they were trying to get away with? Were they trying to divide them? Did they want them to find Greer? He really didn't know what they wanted as an outcome here, and Milo had a point. Eventually the betrayal of what Milo and Greer had done would fade, but Greer may still be gone. He was even ready to give that to him, to agree, but then he continued to talk. "I'm sorry?" Diego said, shaking his head like he was confused. "What is the mutual issue here? You're the one that fucked my girlfriend! What did I do? My god. Just admit you fucked up. Get over yourself for five minutes. Is that really so hard to ask?"

It was the same thing Ollie had pointed out to him not even a few hours ago. He was in the wrong, but refused to admit it, and it was because of that he and Diego were still fighting. It was because of that he lost his best friend. 'Just admit you fucked up' it was really that easy, but it wasn't easy at all, to Milo. He crossed his arms over his chest, grasping onto his elbows with a frown. "I just honestly don't care that much is the thing. We weren't even that close at the time, you were just my frat brother. Yeah, that changed but you two were barely together by that time. You might have even been broken up, who fucking knows with you two." He shrugged his shoulders. "I didn't betray you, Diego. I was just an asshole, but you knew that. So what? What does that have to do with this?"

Ollie smiled a little bit, biting down on his bottom lip as he dried his hands off. Milo might have a point there. He did tend to like a lot of guys who treated him like garbage. He supposed that it was more real to Milo, that he'd really seen what that sort of thing was like first hand since he was a child. He wouldn't let someone bad into his life, because someone bad was already in his life. Though he rolled his eyes as his other comment. "You want me in your life Milo," Ollie said. "You wouldn't be here if you didn't. It's not just me 'begging' you. I was apologizing, and you accepted, and now you're here, and my friend, and you talk to me. It's not just me seeking you out. If it was, maybe. But it's not. So you can stop pretending that we're not friends. It's getting a little silly."

"You are really fucking annoying, do you know that?" He asked, though there wasn't much bite to his words. Maybe because Ollie was right. Despite how much Milo had tried Ollie had wormed his way into his life and now here he was. Maybe they were friends. "There has to be something wrong with you." He probably didn't need to say that. He was probably preaching to the choir. If there was something wrong with Ollie (obviously there was) Ollie already knew. "What is the point of even having to have everyone like you? You're never going to see most of these people here again. Hopefully not me." He said it, but had to laugh, and shake his head. "Every day I hope I never see you again."

He believed that Milo wanted to know what happened to Greer, find implied he cared enough to get involved which he didn't, but know what happened felt like the case. That wasn't why he was hesitant to tell him anything though. "Because I don't like you, Milo," Diego said, shrugging his shoulders. It really was as simple as that, wasn't it? He didn't want to tell him anything because he was mad at him, and because he didn't like him anymore. "You can't just be an asshole, fuck me over, lie to me for years, and expect me to be down with talking to you at all, much less about this. Maybe this will end up being a great learning opportunity for you. You can't expect a bridge to still be there after you've burned it down."

"I feel like this is the sort of thing you need to get over your bullshit for," Milo countered. "It seems like someone you claimed to love is missing, maybe worse, and you're getting caught up in something as petty as this. Like it's even going to matter in a fucking year. But Greer being missing will, Diego. I think that'll fucking matter for as long as it's a thing, and if you have some missing fucking piece you won't share because you're so self righteous and have never done anything wrong in your life so you can judge others, then that's on you." He held his hands up like he was surrendering any responsibility. "Don't act like this was all me, and not a mutual issue."

Ollie scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest. "If I didn't harass you into becoming friends would you even have any friends at all at this point?" He asked. "Because I can name like... maybe two people who are here that you would maybe consider friends. That's sad, Milo. You can't live your entire life alone. So, you're never going to see anyone from Ogden again. Are you never going to see anyone from your new school again after that's over? And never going to see anyone again from Tennis when you quit doing that? And never going to see the people you work with again on projects because those aren't going to be long term. So, what does that leave you with?" He shook his head, and made a soft tsking sound. "I know you don't want to believe it, but needing people for support is actually a very necessary and human need."

"Should I not be allowed to pick who supports me, and who I support?" Milo said, with a scoff. "Why should I just accept anyone? You should actually be very discerning about the people you allow into your life. Maybe you wouldn't be so insane if you actually did that." The amount of times that Ollie seemed like he was miserable was way more than the number of times Milo was miserable. He was just realistic, not good, not bad. Ollie was all over the place. "I'm not going to beg someone to let me into their life who doesn't even want me there. I have self respect. You do know what that is, right?."

He stared at Milo, his mouth open in surprise at his insistence that he didn't have anything to apologize for. He... was just being stubborn, right? Right? Milo, you're just being stubborn? Probably... He couldn't imagine a world where someone would think they weren't in the wrong. "I think I have some authority on it, yeah!" Ollie said, following him. "And I don't believe that it would just be you saying what Diego wanted to hear. You don't feel bad at all? Yeah, Diego and Greer's relationship with pretty shitty, and they probably should have broken up forever before, but you still knowingly slept with her. After you became friends with Diego! You were still sleeping with her. It's nothing to do about them, it's to do about you two."

Did Milo feel guilty about what he had done? Yes. Was he too stubborn to admit that at this point? Yeah, he probably was. What was the point? They were all going to move on in a couple months and he'd never see Diego or anyone from Ogden again, probably. Maybe in ten years at the reunion and he doubted he'd even go to that. "I don't see a point," he said, shrugging his shoulders. "Me and Diego were friends, now we're not anymore. That's how life goes. Some of us understand what it is to let go and not harass someone into becoming friends with them again." Implying, of course, that was what Ollie had done to him. "Maybe you should learn something from me in this instance."

Diego was quiet for a while. First to check that they were alone, which they were. Milo was always good at getting away from other people. Second because he didn't know if he should be sharing this with Milo. Not that Milo had ever told people things he'd told him, but he hadn't exactly proven himself to be trustworthy other ways either. "Yeah, the thing G sent me, I sent in Link's name and they said I got it right, and sent me on some task to find something. It's a lot to get into…" He said, a little warily. "And I don't know if I want to get into it with you, right now. I'm sure you'll understand why."

He raised his eyebrows, wondering what Diego could have possibly been sent to find, and what his question had been in the first place. Something to do with Link? What had they done? He opened his mouth to ask more questions when Diego was already shutting everything down. "No," Milo said, his expression turning sour. "I don't understand why. I don't see what anything I did has to do with anything going on right now. What does me having sex with Greer have to do with any of this? Sure, I lied to you but so the fuck what? What does that even matter right now? I want to find out what happened to Greer just like everyone else. Just like you do. I cared about her to!"

"Yeah, but when he confronted you with that did you immediately jump to being an asshole, or what?" Diego found Ollie to be a pretty forgiving person, he couldn't see him going into that situation with the idea that he would cast all the blame on Milo if Milo hadn't been a dick. He didn't know whatever this paper had said, but he did pause at the idea that maybe it had something to do with Link or Ollie. He could see them protecting each other… "Actually," Diego said quietly, after a moment of hesitation. "The thing G recently sent me … I think it was about Link. Obviously G didn't send like details, or what even they were talking about. But..." He shrugged his shoulders.

Milo looked over at Diego with a scoff. Not exactly saying what he found so amusing in that moment, just the fact that he'd had this exact conversation with Ollie about Diego a little while ago. Maybe they were right, maybe they were both right. But could he admit that? Not at the moment. Luckily Diego distracted him with something else,a nd Milo raised his eyebrows. "What do you mean?" He asked. "How do you know that?" Is that what Diego had sent in to G? Had he been right? "But… What?" He prompted, head tilting and a small smirk crossing his face. "You can't just leave me hanging there."

He hummed a little bit, looking thoughtful. "Hey, don't tell me to go talk to Diego about this like that's not something I will do, you should know better." But Ollie had a suspicion that this falling out was bothering Milo more than he let on. "So, just a question, and I'm not trying to start shit. I'm not trying to argue or anything," he said, already holding his hands up in a placating motion. "But when Diego confronted you about all of this… Did you apologize? Or did you just become defensive even though you were clearly the person in the wrong?" Ollie liked to think he knew Milo pretty well, he wasn't the most mysterious person on the planet after all. So, he had a pretty good idea on what had happened here. "You could just apologize, you know? It doesn't fix everything, and it might not fix anything, but at least admit you were the person here who fucked up. Diego has a right to be pissed at you. It's been a year, and you haven't done anything to fix it."

He gave Ollie a wary look at the lead up to his question, pretty sure he knew where this was going. Then subsequently rolled his eyes, and sighed. "I don't really think I have anything to apologize for." That wasn't true. He knew he did. But he was stubborn, and had dug his feet too far into the sand to get out now. At least if he were to maintain any bit of his ego. "What? Because you fucked up and had to go on a big apology tour you're an expert now? There's a difference between apologizing because you mean it, and apologizing because you know it's what the other person wants to hear. Which one did you do? Because I know what it would be for me." He was implying it was because it would just be what the other person wanted to hear. But it wasn't true... He annoyed himself sometimes. He really wished he didn't have to talk about this. He backed off from the sinks, heading over to the hand dryer with a huff.

Diego squnted a little as he digested what Milo was saying. Maybe it was true, but it felt a little too cynical for himself to really be able to get behind. Maybe Milo was right though, it really didn't matter what they did in the end, they'd never get what they wanted until G decided they should. He was an inhrently more proactive person than that though, so he couldn't really accept it. He laughed as Milo explained what happened to whatever it was he'd gotten before. "That seems like something that would happen," he said, nodding. "So, you can't say it wasn't a least a little bit your fault, whatever you two were fighting about." And Milo and Ollie fought about a lot in those days. Link having it Diego could see being more of a problem. "I'm guessing he gave it to Link to piss you off. Which… almost at graduation and clearly he was successful." Kind of funny, you had to admit.

Maybe with anyone else he would be annoyed that they found what happened amusing, but Milo couldn't help but his mouth quirk up along with Diego's laugh. It had been a long time since he'd really heard him laugh at anything. Still Milo rolled his eyes, and scoff. "It wasn't my fault. It was when he started accusing me of being G, not something I ever even fucking did." Maybe Milo hadn't said the nicest things to Ollie, and maybe he'd jumped to being defensive, but clearly he hadn't been in the wrong this time. "You're probably right," he agreed, that Ollie had just been after getting under his skin. "Maybe it doesn't even matter, I just thought it was weird that Ollie refused to get it back, unless it was something to do with him or Link."

Diego shook his head, his tongue clicking on the back of his teeth. "I don't know how you just 'don't care'," he said. "Especially when someone is threatening us. When someone says they know what happened to Greer?" Did Milo really just not care? Or was it a defense mechanism for him? Diego assumed it was the latter, but it was still crazy to him. He furrowed his eyebrows at the information that Milo had found something ages ago, stopping himself from asking why he never said anything to him. They had been friends at that point, weren't they? "What happened? Who has it?"

"I guess that it just doesn't matter if someone cares or not," Milo said, shrugging his shoulders. "G is going to do whatever the fuck they want. Are they going to tell us what happened to Greer? They haven't yet, no matter what people have done. I'm not going to repeatedly bang my head against a wall and get nothing out of it." That was how he saw it. Was G barring them from having information? He didn't know. Maybe? But had it mattered? Who knew. Maybe it was something they'd never find out. He sighed, sending Diego a flat look. "Ollie took it from me. I gave it to him to look at, we had a fight, and he walked out of the room with it and never gave it back." Milo didn't think Ollie had stolen it on purpose, but he had definitely kept it on purpose. "Link has it now."

"Milo! That's great!" Ollie said, grinning brightly at the other, and giving him a companionable knock on the shoulder. "Oooh. You're going to be an architect and you're going to name your first building after me, because you wouldn't have managed to do any of this if it weren't for me." He nodded his head like that was agreed upon, and took a deep breath. "So, you're going to be in socal?" He asked, with a bit of a grimace. "You know Diego is planning on going there too. I mean not the same school. And maybe norcal. I think it depends. But you know… You two will still be relatively close…" He said, tilting his head a little bit. "Are you still mad at each other?" If Milo really wanted to see annoying, maybe he could watch as Ollie tried to patch up his old bromance.

He scoffed. Yeah, that wasn't going to happen, whether he 'owed' any of this to Ollie or not. Which he did, of course. Would he have been able to get as good of grades as he had if it were not for Ollie? Who knew. But would he have wanted to do all of this on his own? Absolutely fucking not. That was probably the more important fact rather than 'could he do it'. Didn't everyone just want to get past all the bullshit and to doing what they actually wanted to do? Why not do that since he'd had the chance? And now here he was.

"Yeah," he said, nodding his head at the question. Though a moment later he was arching an eyebrow like he couldn't see where Ollie was going with this. He didn't need help with his relationships. He didn't ask for it. So, he sighed, and shrugged his shoulders. "California is a large state. LA is a large city. We're doing two totally different things, so I doubt we'll even see each other." The question of if they were still mad made him roll his eyes. "I'm not mad," he pointed out. But he wasn't the one who had been cheated on, "that's something you're going to have to talk to Diego about."

'I remember people getting letters'. So, Milo hadn't gotten one himself? Diego had never known, he'd never really thought much about it, but there was the confirmation. He knew that not everybody had. People she hadn't been that close with? So, there was a nasty little part of Diego that was satisfied to know that Milo had never gotten one. That maybe he wasn't that important to Greer. But then there was a part that reminded him, Milo had said repeatedly it wasn't anything more than sex -- Maybe he'd been telling the truth. "I don't understand any of this," Diego said, shaking his head. "It would make sense that G planted this, and that's how the cops hadn't found it. It's pretty extra, but nothing out of the ordinary for them. But what's the point?" He shook his head, maybe that was a job for people smarter than him to figure out. "You make it sound like you've found something G planted somewhere."

"I've stopped trying to piece together what G's point is over a year ago," Milo said with a shrug. Closer to two years, now that he thought about it. "I just figure that they're crazy." But then he didn't really try to think too much about other people and the things that they did in the first place. It was easier to just accept people for the actions they took, and G's actions were crazy. He nodded his head slowly at the question. "Yeah, last October in the haunted house. I found some piece of paper with writing on it. It had to have been put there by G, or someone acting on their behalf." He gave a noise like a small hiss of a breath. "It doesn't matter, I don't even have it anymore."

"Yeah, I mean I wouldn't care," Ollie said, shrugging his shoulders. When you held the door open for someone they should take it and eventually it would get to the point people were just being rude, so yeah he wouldn't care to shut a door in someone's face. He smiled a little bit over at Milo from where he was washing his hands. "What are your plans after graduation?" Was he going to keep doing tennis? Architecture? A mix of both? "Have you gotten any acceptances or anything?" He knew Milo's grades were good enough to get into plenty of places. He'd seen to that himself. "Believe it or not, it's true. And she was enthusiastic about helping as well." She hadn't been. "And I really don't care if you want it or not. You're getting it, and you'll be annoyed about it like normal."

Milo smiled a little bit, and shrugged his shoulders. Like he was trying to pretend to not be too proud about it. "I'm going to Southern California Institute of Architecture," he said, "get my master's, get licensed, and continue to build my portfolio there." He realized that he would likely not be able to do that if it were not for Ollie, but he couldn't really bring himself to thank him, or acknowledge that in any way. So, he didn't, not right then. Maybe later. Still doubtful about Beck's involvement in the procurement of any presents he might have gotten, Milo rolled his eyes. "Most everything you do annoys me," he pointed out. And yet, here they still were.

link glanced over at him, then back at his drink, rolling the glass between his hands. "i poked around a bit, yeah," he said after a moment, tone even. "but then bigger shit landed in my lap and... you know how it goes." a faint twitch of his mouth, not quite a smile. "never really got anywhere with it." he shrugged, leaning an elbow on the bar. "figure if anyone had something solid, it'd be out by now. and if i'd managed to piece it together myself, trust me, you'd have heard about it." his gaze flicked back toward milo, calm, but clipped. "why? do you have anything?" and suddenly his doesn't matter anymore turns into interest if there was actually a lead there.

"So, you still care?" Milo isn't really sure the 'you'd have heard about it' point Link makes is because he believes that Link would have told him, or because Link just would have done something that everyone would have heard about by now. He tries to decide if he feels bad for keeping this information to himself, and ultimately decides that he doesn't, and mostly he doesn't care. Monty has been such a good boy this year, and any beef Milo had with Ollie had been pretty much squashed now … But that's all kind of boring when it comes to holding something over Link's head. "I might have heard a few things. Someone said that someone might know something type deal," Milo said.

Diego hesitated. He didn't trust Milo anymore, he didn't think he really deserved to know what his question had been about, or who he sent in. So, instead he just shrugged his shoulders. "It doesn't really matter. It didn't really seem that important." He might be willing to share this information he'd found with Milo, but there was an extent… Diego shrugged his shoulders. "I found a letter from Penny to the Dean telling him about letters that Greer had sent out that she had been the one to deliver," he shook his head, "do you remember that?" Had Milo gotten anything? "I don't understand why it was left behind either. I have been wondering if it's possible it was planted later by G, or something, just for someone to find."

Milo couldn't tell if Diego really thought that or not. It was possible that G had sent him something that hadn't seemed important. G had definitely given Milo some bullshit that didn't seem important to him, either. Or was Diego just saying that because he didn't want to say either way. Maybe it didn't matter, Milo was just curious, really. "I remember people getting letters," he said, nodding his head. He remembered that was around the time G had started making people think he was G, and Mari had thought he'd been the one to give her the letter. He hadn't gotten one himself, though. "Honestly, that'd make sense," he said, rolling his eyes, "they're always planting shit in places for people to find. I have a hard time anyone is finding anything by accident. It's all shit they want to happen."

Ollie was taking this as Milo's way to point out that he seemed to be doing well lately, and smiled at him like he was flattered to hear he thought that. He thought he was doing pretty well lately too. "It's sort of the trap, right? Like when you hold the door for someone and then you end up holding the door for everyone because no one else is willing to do it." He didn't get caught in that, though he would hold the door open for the people behind him, like make sure you push it extra so it didn't close on them. Ollie slid in next to Milo to share the sink, though he hadn't offered this was what he was taking from the conversation. "I am in good spirits, by the way. Thanks for noticing. I feel like I'm doing really well, and we're almost out of here, so what is there to be sad about? -- Oh! I got you a birthday present, by the way. Beck helped me."

"I have a hard time believing you wouldn't ever be okay with just closing the door in someone's face," Milo said, as he held his hands up and out of the way as Ollie shoved his way in front of him. Case and point. Ollie wasn't particularly the most polite person he'd ever met. "We are almost out of here," He agreed like it was a subjective statement. He was happy about that as well, was that not easy to tell from his expression? Though it became one of disbelief, and he raised his eyebrows. "I don't believe that's true." Not the birthday present thing, Ollie seemed like the sort who liked to buy things for people. But the Beck helping thing. "But I don't want any birthday presents, either way."
