Back in the boot camp, long ago, when they were all just kids:
Eve got along with them pretty well! She was the ‘cooler smarter older sibling’ type, always at a bit of a distance. A cool distance.
Then, she passed the magic aptitude test, and got put into Evoker training. Even though it elevated her status, the distance between her and the others grew. Nevertheless, she was pretty excited, her iron pocket knives instead became magical blades. Some of the training was still at the camp, so she even got to keep in touch for a bit.
But eventually, she was taken to the Mansion to be trained by the Elders, including Walda. Evokers are to be perfect, and show no weakness.
She passed her training, and so did the trio.
Johnny became a Vindicator straight away, and was stationed in the Mansion. Later, Vinny got promoted too and moved in.
Now it was just up to Polly to get promoted too, and then they could all properly reunite and live in the safety of the Mansion. They all believed- just play the game we all play, and you’ll be rewarded, see? But it would never be the same.
Evoker duty comes first, and Walda had Eve sent off to help rule a neighbouring Mansion, far away. Some suspected Eve to be there on behalf of Walda to spread her influence, and Eve hates this rumour. She didn’t play this game just to be in Walda’s shadow.
