In the Altered AU both Zelda and Link were changed physically from their adventures, Link’s transformation being more gradual than Zelda’s though. So one could say it was quite the shock for both to see each other for the first time in forever, but Link had a bit more time to compose himself lol.
Despite the shocking state of them both, our little Princess and Hero are just happy the other is alive and mostly well

I am actually so proud of how the animation of the light dragon on this turned out, I feel like Link should have a little more contrast on his face but whatever, did this in about 7-ish hours? So all things considered very nice

I was a bit stuck on this piece and the orientations they’d go with but I’m happy with the end result. There’s no way Link isn’t bi I will die on that hill.
I plan to do more with these guys again. I deeply apologize for how long it’s been, I’ve been working extra hours and a lot of personal projects came up. But I still love these two and this AU and I want to continue working on it!
There are a couple of fics about Link and Zelda meeting their past selves, be it by going to pre-botw or meeting the AOC cast, but honestly none of the fics I’ve read have quite scratched the itch for me. Now I am a real shit writer but if someone wants to take this idea and go running— by all means, just let me know so I can read it >:D
My design for post-totk Zelda really hasn’t changed since I first drew it, except for a couple small details. (And also she’s like Gerudo in height now)
Also some ideas I wanted to leave here: (I’m calling future Zelda Flora for this)
- Some priestess is granted a vision that Hylia will be sending the royal family some kind of ‘help’ at the Temple of Time, so Zelda, The King and the champions all gather. There’s some very impressive looking magic and a portal is created, dropping a very pissed off Flora who just got yoinked out of her kitchen with no warning. The initial meeting goes about as well as one would expect when you put Revali in a room with a future Zelda who doesn’t take his tendency to run his mouth very well— which is to say she nearly kills him on accident.
- Zelda noticing that Flora has a wedding ring somewhere on her; on her horn or ring finger or on a necklace. Asking if Flora is married, which she confirms but refuses to tell anyone who it is, frustrating Zelda to no end especially
- Flora is especially nice to Link, more that anyone else and it freaks everyone out so much since they all know Zelda hates her knight. Naturally she dodges questions about it with ease. It freaks Link out the most because currently he can’t imagine the Princess ever being nice to him, but they end up getting along fairly well.
- The King is so confused as to why Flora VERY CLEARLY hates his guts and will not talk to him
- Despite everyone’s best efforts, they cannot convince Flora to stop napping on the various roofs of the castle. (She’s been living with Link for like 8 years give or take okay, she’s picked up some stuff. Don’t you dare tell me she wouldn’t given the chance and no supervision)
- Flora being obsessed with documenting certain lost arts like construction, blacksmithing, woodworking, paint-making and so much more so she can bring all these techniques back to her Hyrule where they were lost to the calamity.
- Flora trying her best to teach Zelda how to use her light powers, except she can’t exactly tell her “you’ll get then in a moment of desperation by saving Link’s life almost and admitting to yourself you might be in love with him before resigning the rest of your to a life of borderline torture to save the kingdom” can she? No. No she can’t. So instead she’s kind of dodging the situation and avoiding the subject, which is NOT working.
- Flora trying to avoid being alone in a room with Urbosa because she just knows she’ll cry, and her tears still sort-of show her memories which may be a problem.
- Whenever someone brings up a historical figure from the founding of Hyrule, Flora might mention some fact about them in passing, except it’s WAY too personal to not be something she learned first hand, like for example they come across some Yiga: “FOR GANON!” “Yeah real bitch that guy, had a penitent for monologuing” “Literally how could you know that??”
- Zelda getting a bit embarrassed whenever Flora does something odd or ‘speaks out of line’ because oh my gods why would you say tha- YOU’RE ME, WHY WOULD I SAY THAT???
- Dragon constitution is built different and Flora can drink Urbosa under the table is all I’m saying
- For whatever reason, Flora gets dragged into a fight (maybe while she’s travelling with Link and Zelda) and no one expects her to be strong enough to throw a lizalfos halfway across the field by the neck, and yet she can. This doesn’t even touch on her combat magic (which I don’t know about since I’m staying blind to AOI)
Idk if I’ll ever draw more of this specifically, I just needed to get it out of my head, let me know if ya’ll want more
I love your dragon Zelda so much! How does she adjust to her new form? We see her get a new outfit, did she do that herself? Is she still ruler of hyruling or nah?
It can be hard to get used to a new, weird body, but it’s easier with friends! As for her being the ruler of Hyrule? In the weirdest way possible, yes. Citizens from all over Hyrule come for her wisdom and for help with their problems expecting the same perfect princess they remember, and come face to face with a HUGE dragon in the doorway of some rundown house in Hateno that’s goes, “uuuhhhh have you tried (idea)?” Before turning around and going back to bed. I love her.
