For last words, they weren’t bad. A brief laugh escaped Rip’s lips despite himself, spitting fate in the eye one more time as the device in his hands grew so bright that the world disappeared. It exploded, taking time and Mallus with him as Rip was scatted into a million pieces – for a second, there was pain, a brief intensity of being ripped apart a hundred times and stretched across the centuries – but with a flash, it was all gone.

It was over. The last breath to escape him was a sigh of relief.

Snippet:  Joss howls. Lightning strikes above the warehouse, thunder rolling behind it. Joss shoves Raya forward towards the table—she falls back across it, blinking in surprise, tablet and papers blown every which way around her. Joss ends up sprawled above her, glaring down.

And Raya just laughs beneath her. “Wow. Don’t get your way and you resort to violence? Well, aren’t you a little hurricane.” She leans up, whispers, “I like it,” in her ear.
