MSI Interview “Live On The Chokehold...” ELEKTRO SLEEZE - ISSUE ONE, 1999
KJ – You’re live on the air with King James & Anastia.
KJ – So you’ve got a rock group out now right?
Urine – A rock group? I guess so, if that’s what you can call it.
KJ – I think you can call it rock…
Anastia – Are you still eating Cheerios?
Urine – Uh-huh! I eat what I like except it’s not apple jacks, it’s Cheerios
KJ – So you got a record coming out right?
Urine – Yeah, it comes out April 20th, and we are going to be playing a record release party over at the Virgin Megastore. It’s going down at 7:30. The first 100 people to buy the CD get a free Video!
KJ – A Video? You shot a video?
Urine - Yeah…we took a bunch of videos of some of our shows mixed in with some other stuff and sliced it all together really quick. It looks like crap, but hey, it will get people down! [talking to someone else] Yeah I’m on radio right now…you gotta problem with that? I can’t be on the radio at my own house?
KJ - Tell them you’re on the radio, man.
Urine – I’m on the radio, man! That’s what they told me to say!
KJ – If you add the “man,” then they know where you’re coming from. Now, you had a request, but I don’t think we can deliver it though…
Urine – Yeah, my two requests for your “All-covers” show were Faith No More’s “Easy” & Kid Loop’s “Microphone Fiend.”
KJ – Yeah, we didn’t have those…but speaking of “Microphone Fiend”, I have a question regarding that song. Did it inspire your song, “I Grab The Mic”?
Urine – Not really…overall I like a lot of rap stuff
KJ – Well, both songs have similar lines
KJ – Yeah, your song goes “When I was so small they tried to take it,” and Rakim’s words are, “I grab the mic and try to say ‘yes ya’ll,’ but then they take it and say that I was too small.”
Urine – Oh yeah! You’re right! That probably snuck in.
KJ – Oops! Did I just let out a big secret?
Urine – No…I don’t keep no secrets from nobody, man!!
KJ – You do a little cover there yourself, don’t ya?
Urine – Yes I do! I cover “Bring the Pain” by…that guy from the W-Tang Clan…Lionel Richie! Yeah, me & Lionel go way back.
Anastia – He’s making a comeback.
Urine – Yeah, he’s shaving his head and coming back!
KJ – He’s probably balding by now, dude
Urine – That’s what happens when you get smacked up by your wife! I wanna request another song. What other songs do you have? Just give me a choice of 2 to pick from?
Urine – Don’t play ORGY!!
KJ – Yeah Orgy’s coming up…why, you’re not down with that?
Urine – It’s just been played out…I like the “Stitches” song now…I’m not too into the “Blue Monday.”
Anastia – Right on! I love that song!
Urine – Yeah “Stitches” is great! I’m surprised they didn’t release that as their first single…well I know why…the same reason I’m release “Bring the Pain” as my first single!
KJ – You gotta him ‘em where it’s home, man.
Urine – [in a young teenage voice] Oh yeah, I can’t relate. “Bring the Pain”…I get it!! That other stuff, I don’t get.
KJ – OK…How about a cover of “Burnin’ Up” by Babyland or Unit 187’s “Relax”?
Urine – I haven’t heard that one…I gota pick “Burnin’ Up!”
KJ – Well now we’re gonna play this “Bring the Pain” record and we’ll see you April 20th. Is this show a big scam or is this gonna be kool?
Urine – It’s a big scam! You’re gonna waste all your time. We’re not even gonna be there.
Anastia – They are gonna have cardboard cut-outs.
Urine – Actually we are all gonna sit around and listen to the record.
KJ – Well thanks for calling us, Urine…it was super!
