I have never actually used a tumblr ask before so sorry if this is bad, or you dont plan on releasing this yet, but
What's your lore on Endermen?
Does Auspice's End even have Endermen?
'cause most theories on them are that they're human-descendants.
I've always liked the "Minecraft: The End" book's interpretation, even though it's very not canon.
Endermen are an intelligent species and a hive mind that sits in the realm between most others. They didn’t have a need to speak before finding a way into Overworld, in which they started mimicking humanoids and learning their languages. Usually, these beings speak through telepathy and their hive mind. Endermen generally have a very close connection to the fibers that make up worlds (things on the molecular level), hence their ability to pick bunches of roots and grass out of the ground without killing it, and their ability to teleport without harming themselves.
Endermen developed more of an Overworldly culture because of this. They use simple umbrella terms for certain things, like Parent and Chile. For example, they use the word parent for anyone older than them who acts as a mentor. Terms like teacher and mother or father are useless to them, because they are a very interlinked species and a genderless group. Baby endermen, which I don’t have a name for yet, are raised by everyone on their island. Until sometime after Overworlders introduced individual parents to them, a baby wouldn’t have a need to cling to the person who hatched their pearl.
Now, with the ways that Endermen function, they have some pretty frequently used terms within their general population (these are specifically used when they are using verbal speech, as they have no reason to keep terms like this for themselves when they have telepathy):
Parent(s): A mentor, teacher, or generally a caretaker. Parents are used with no switching gender roles, as endermen don’t identify with any genders among themselves.
Child/Children: This term is used in two ways among them; either for small, barely hatched endermen babies, or someone learning under them. This term is used the same way one might use “student” or “apprentice”.
Leader(s): Leaders refers to the few higher beings in the Endermen society, those the parents dragon relies on the most in the hive mind.
Travelers: Travelers almost refers to a subspecies of Endermen developed when more of them became curious about the overworld and spent their lives going and researching it in their own ways. Travelers tend to be half severed from the hive mind to cause less pain to the parent dragon in the event they get harmed in Overworld or The Nether.
Ender Pearls are like eggs in a way. They sit somewhere in the chest cavity and are regurgitated when an Enderman intends to hatch a baby. The oily substance on the outside of the pearl is what connects the pearl to the birthparent Enderman. When a pearl is chipped at or tracked, the substance acts as a hormone or chemical, and the parent is transported to the pearl wherever it may be. This form of protection was developed after endermites began trying to crack pearls open so that they could eat the greasy material that fills the inside of them.
When someone who is not an enderman uses a pearl, it is crucial to allow the oily substance on the outside of it to seep into your hands. That substance links you to the pearl, and smashing it to teleport induces the same reaction it would to a birthparent enderman. This causes emotional distress and pain for two reasons:
Due to the substance linking you to the pearl, you grow a fast, somewhat emotional attachment to the pearl, and smashing it causes a parental instinct that sends a normal Overworlder into fight or flight.
Overworlders, even runebearers (aka magic users) don’t have the same connection to things on the molecular level that endermen do. Teleportation tears you apart and puts you back together, which for those who are not enderfolk, causes a sharp pain all over the body.
Using pearls is generally frowned upon in both human and Testificates societies. The use of Eyes of Ender is also no longer needed, and seen just as immoral.
That’s really all I have for now, but since you asked about Endermen, here’s a peek at their design for Auspice. 👀
That’s all, my dear. Thanks for asking. Buh-bye! 💚
