Today is the first day of the Lunar New Year. I am super excited to kick off this year by spending a great day at the temple, losing some money, talking to old friends ( mostly aunties ) and laughing throughout the day. I must say I could not ask for a better way to start the new year. Over the past few days, I have been helping mom to prepare for Tet and I cannot help but to wonder what Tet was like in Vietnam. Frankly, the memories are tiny bit and pieces, I realized that I have absolutely no significant memory of Tet back in Vietnam. I only remember that it was empty outside in the street and we would spent the day visiting the few relatives that we have. I realized that since 10, I have not celebrated Tet in Vietnam. As much as I want to go back there to celebrate, I realized that it would be very lonely and sad because it would only be my dad and I. Perhaps, spending the new year in the U.S is not too bad, we have many relatives here, in fact all my relatives are here, what is the point of going back to Vietnam during New Year then ? Yet, I long for a time in the near future when I can wear ao dai and visit the temples like many other Vietnamese girls and create for myself a memory of what Tet in Vietnam is like. I think if I can find a job soon, that will be something I want to do in 2015 ~
