alright i know this is a controversial topic but i love love love the s7-s8 drama between sam and dean -- dean killing amy, sam killing emma, sam not looking for dean when he was in purgatory, them fighting over who gets to do the trials, sam wanting to kill benny so so so bad, and then dean using amelia to trick sam into talking to him -- and all of this coming on the heels of cas's s6 betrayal and now dean being so unsure about whether or not he can trust him. like oh my god its soooo good. maybe its just me but i love when they fight.
Edit: I’m rewatching the ep now — totally forgot that the reason Dean texts Sam pretending to be Amelia is to stop him from killing Benny. On that note I also love when the parallels are paralleling.
Amelia being caught between Don and Sam, Dean being caught between Benny and Cas, Sam being caught between his brother/hunting and a normal life, Benny caught between his granddaughter and the vampire who’s trying to force him to join his nest/the curse of vampirism — aaaaaa I could go on and on
in honor of Dean Winchester's bday (iykyk)

I believe in supernatural revival the way cas believed in god in seasons 4 and 5. he’s real but he wants to hurt me forever <3
today I am thinking about the way Amara imposes her love onto Dean, saying that it’s inevitable, assuming that his being drawn to her is him taking a romantic interest because why wouldn’t he want her? How could he not? Isn’t it obvious? The way that Amara is associated with giving up, giving in, allowing the world to end and relinquishing hope for a future, and especially being tempted towards “evil.”
I’m thinking about that, and then the way that Dean apologizes to Cas at the end of the season — while they’re on their way to buy drinks, when Dean has totally accepted defeat and is content to merely wait for the world to end — for making him feel so unvalued that he went to Lucifer. and then immediately following it up with, “you’re our brother.” How this, for Dean, is not only a moment of surrender/accepting defeat (to Amara) — but also accepting that Cas will never have romantic feelings for him. This is Dean (who not only relates to Amara, but has also been told by GOD that he is like her, and has ALSO been told repeatedly for years that his desire to have others close to him is selfish) releasing Cas from any obligation to return his affection.
Dean is apologizing for not being focused enough on him to keep him from being seduced by Lucifer, and yet at the same time accepting that he is not deserving of the kind of relationship he wants — saying “this is the closest I’m ever gonna get, and that’s fine.” Dean sees himself as responsible for Cas’s fall from grace by being a temptation, imposing himself on him, assuming that Cas must feel or will eventually feel the same way.
Edit bc I can’t stop thinking about this:
Because despite it being his way of letting Cas go — he’s still doing exactly what Amara does to people when she consumes their souls (she describes it as preserving them, keeping them from being harmed). Dean is keeping Cas stuck in the same emotional in between phase that they’ve been in for years — like purgatory. Treating Cas like both a lover and a family member, and preventing either of them from moving forward in any direction — not closer to each other, but not further away either. And that is exactly what Amara’s version of the apocalypse is — she’s saving God’s creatures from suffering by keeping their souls perfectly preserved inside her. Protecting people from harm by making sure that nothing will ever be done to them ever again.

hiii let’s pretend I didn’t post this to the wrong page 😁 hehe
You'd do well to say yes to me
It’s a mirror, down
Dean Winchester. Something so compelling to me about being trapped in your body, playing the male deuteragonist in a show about hunting monsters. Forever someone you aren’t doing something you hate, while everybody tells you that you love it and that the only way out is to die. And you don’t have a choice, because that’s what the show is about.
Notice how season 1 introduces us to the world through Sam’s eyes? How the season 2 opener starts on Sam, but then focuses on Dean’s pov even though Dean is unconscious the whole time? Notice how season 3 starts with Sam again? And how season 4, suddenly, starts us off completely in Dean’s perspective — suddenly he’s being treated as a sole protagonist. And how this coincides with the angels (the hand of the writers?) appearing and telling him that actually he’s a Chosen One and he can single-handedly save the world — and how this is actually a lie? Notice how season 5 is the first season that starts with Sam and Dean together, experiencing the same things at the same time? Notice how they’re trapped in a story where one brother is expected to dominate the other, and how Michael rejects Lucifer’s last minute plea for them to leave this story behind? Notice how Sam and Dean win by rejecting the roles they’ve been forced into 😤‼️⁉️ Notice how it’s a critique of American fiction and how audiences are trained to view stories — how we have come to expect a narrative about One (1) singular chosen one who can save the world, and accept that the people around him exist to accompany him on his journey and will most likely die so that he can fulfill his destiny. Notice how it’s rejecting this idea ‼️⁉️‼️⁉️ Notice how it’s showing us how community building is essential to our survival, but the overarching structure of our world makes it next to impossible for people to stay together ⁉️😭⁉️😭⁉️ Notice how the story keeps going back to the brothers being expected to kill each other 🤨 Notice how the story they’re trapped in is also misogynistic and homophobic and treats human bodies as objects?????????? Notice that we need the gay angel to live????????????????

The play was probably written in 1598 and 1599 when Shakespeare was mid-career, and is riddled with jokes and plays on words — though some of them have been shrouded by changing linguistics and semantics. Even one that is in the title remains hidden to most people — after all, why would “nothing” be dirty? Much of this play revolves around writing secret messages, spying, and eavesdropping. People are constantly pretending to be others or being mistaken for other people, and are constantly tricked in one way or another. Intriguingly, much of the play’s action hinges upon the word. In Shakespeare’s time, “noting” (meaning gossip, rumour, and overhearing) was pronounced very similarly to “nothing”, and “noting” is what tricks the two main characters, Benedick and Beatrice, to confess their love for each other.
Why Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ is a brilliant sneaky innuendo
