Working on a thing. Not fully sure what direction it's going.
Cavernous Nose
âUghâ Benjamin groaned to himself when he landed in a moist dark cave. He stood up with some slight difficulty as the cave floor was covered in some kind of viscous fluid that was quite slippery, but also somehow slightly sticky. Once he was upright, he took stock of his body and sighed in relief that didnât appear to have broken anything. His left ankle did twinge a little, so he definitely landed wrong. But a sprain is better than a fracture.
Benjamin brushed his clothes of the viscous substance to the best of his ability, then tried to get his bearings. He quickly swore to himself when he realized that wherever he was, it was too dark to even really see his own hands in front of him.
âCrickets.â He swore to himself when he tried to summon an orb of light, but failed. He must have depleted his magic reserves when he tried his most recent and clearly failed teleportation spell. He looked upward and saw a faint amount of light peeking over some kind of wall. However, it wasnât enough to even remotely ascertain location.
Benjamin walked forward a couple of feet before hitting a wall. Surprisingly, the wall didnât feel like stone, like heâd been expecting. He couldnât describe what it felt like, but it was slightly cushiony and equally covered with the viscous substance that was covering the ground. He felt around for a git and found that the walls had random grooves that seemed big enough for a foot hold.
Benjamin slowly tried to climb the wall using the slimy footholds that were barely there. He only managed to move a couple inches before things started shaking. There had been a gust of wind followed by what could only be described as a thunderous noise. Although it was higher pitched than any thunder heâs ever heard. Then everything shook and, given how slippery the footholds were, he fell back to the ground.
âCrickets.â Benjamin whispered as he stood back up. He once again tried to climb the wall. He was more successful this time. He made it to the top of the wall and saw two pathways. One leading to further darkness, and one that seemed to be a tunnel that leads to an exit. The light that had been peeking over the wall was now clearly visible. The tunnel seemed to be at a slant. After weighing his options, Benjamin decided to try to make the jump to the path that leads out of the cave heâs in.
Just as he made the jump, there was another large gust of wind. The gust practically threw him off course and he began to fall down the tunnel that seemed to lead to pure darkness. He managed to catch himself on a giant stalactite. It was like no stalactite heâd ever seen, but it saved him from plummeting to who knows where.
He did his best to hoist himself up, only to experience something that he can only describe as an earthquake. The tremors were violent and also loud. Very much more akin to thunder than the previous sounds. The early sounds were higher pitched. When the thunderous earthquake ended, Benjamin had managed to climb back to where he had been before. Although, he had easier access to the tunnel he had been trying to get to in the first place.
This new tunnel of the cave had a clear line of sight to the outside. He got to his feet after climbing and once again winced when he put weight on his twisted ankle.
âCrickets.â He muttered as he began to hobble through the tunnel.
The entrance tunnel was weird. The area he had been in, while covered in the slimy viscous substance, was relatively smooth. The entrance to the cave not only had the same viscous substance, but was also covered by coarse grass.
Benjamin brushed a hand over the coarse grass, only to immediately be knocked over by another gust wind. As soon as the wind abated, he tried to stand back up, only to be knocked over again by another burst of wind. He stood up again, and again, got knocked over by a gust of wind.
The cave opening was suddenly covered, causing the cave to be bathed in darkness. Before Benjamin could even begin to think about his next moves, Some type of invisible force pushed him towards the cave opening, along with a river of the viscous substance. An even louder thundering sound occurred while the force pushed him toward the cave entrance.
He landed on whatever had blocked the tunnel entrance. Which, upon further examination, seemed to be some type of fabric. He tried to move, but the amount of the viscous substance was too great and weighed him down.
He felt himself drop as whatever had been blocking the cave a moment ago got moved. He briefly got enveloped in the item and felt quick and jerky movements before suddenly getting bathed in light. He squinted his eyes and brought a hand up as his vision became clearer. Only for his expression to become gobsmacked when he saw before him a giant face. The eyes were watery and the nose was tinged pink.
âCrickets.â He muttered once again as the giantâs breath began to hitch and they brought the fabric he was trapped in back to their face.
âSTIESHHHâ âHEH-HUH-STIESHHHIEWWâ
The fabric he was stuck in was lowered and the giant looked down into the mess of what Benjamin now knew was snot.
âWell thatâs not normal.â
The giant said before laying the fabric down on the table and lifting Benjamin off, freeing him from the majority of the viscous snot.
âWho are you? And h-how did you get heh into my n-ose?â
The giant rubbed their nose, clearly trying to quell the still present itch. Benjamin didnât know how to respond, so he just sat there silently as the giant once again lifted the fabric to their face.
Thinking of writing a fic where a young mage learning teleportation magic accidentally transports themselves into the nose of a giant
I am still working on part two of the story I started, but I'm stuck on the interaction between the characters, which is why I haven't posted shit
