My safety trainers have been through the ringer. Think most of the bigger rips happened during Edinburgh fringe a number of years ago. #work #steels #livesound

I wanna prove a point
How many of you have a successful career and don’t have a college degree? And among those who have a degree, how useful have you found it in directly affecting your career?
Did my degree, it was useful in so far as getting a basic grounding of the theory, making contacts in a new city and being able to go off and shadow other engineers to get work without having to worry too much financially.
My dissertation was all about whether higher education had any impact on the future success of a sound engineer. And the answer was basically "eh. Not so much." It's all about time spent working.
However. There was one time that as a result of having a degree a crewing company paid me the full rate rather than a probation rate.

Rolls. Eyes. Forever.
I want mobile phones being used to play show critical songs to die.
And I'm also the moron that let them.
Rolls. Eyes. Forever. I want mobile phones being used to play show critical songs to die.
I've not written much here for a while and most of the time I've just been plugging the podcast. Which you should all totally listen to btw. (Production Values Podcast on iTunes/soundcloud and acast) I was back home in Northampton for the first time in about a year and a half. It was Mother's Day in the U.K on Sunday and myself and my brother and sister wanted to surprise her. I stuck around for another day and had a good chat with her about how I feel at work and stuff and it was good. Useful. Now I just kinda wanna take the time to maybe note down the things I'm thinking about. Break it down into a nice list. Here goes. 1. I work 3 nights a week on average. 6pm-2am. Work isn't particularly difficult or challenging. I've plenty of time in theory that I don't seem to be using effectively. I earn enough to be comfortable. 2. Whilst I say work isn't difficult. The actual job isn't. I find trying to stay on top of admin or communication things as a day to day tricky. Might be laziness. Or maybe not really feeling part of the team or "family" spiel they talk about. 3. I over think about things, and then do nothing. Which looks like I don't care. I do care. Just feel restricted in what I'm supposed to say or do. Then i turn passive and hope things will work themselves out. Weirdly they have done so far. Maybe that comes from a colleague who seems to panic a lot so I don't want to trigger that. 4. I need to figure out how to give myself a structure. Maybe must doing more would force me to have to sort things out quicker. 5. I'm concerned that this imposter syndrome I have is starting to effect/affect (Can't remember which one.) my work. I need to be able to figure out how to tell myself that I am good enough. Not just wistfully hope for some form of validation that isn't going to come. Let's break that down a bit more. 1. I'm not using my time effectively. 2. Not identifying with the group caused the communication issues or the other way round? 3. Overwhelm myself with over thinking. Become passive. Stop caring whilst closing my eyes and hoping it'll all be ok. 4. Structure. See point 1. 5. I don't think I'm competent. Need to be conscious about the things I do well. Or a full tl;dr I have my biannual life crisis and listen to sad post rock and blog until I'm tired and fall asleep. I'm fine.
Tonight's lighting engineer is literally useless.
Want to do a sound podcast that isn’t really dry. I want to chat to people who are genuinely excited by their work, and can make it sound fun and humorous.
Might just record myself chatting and see how it sounds. I’ve got some ideas.
We need more live sound podcasts! I thought about it myself but I am in no shape for extra tasks these days
Man you guys couldn’t have pitched this during the slow season?
This is actually happening. Go to @provaluescast on twitter.

Don't understand drinking on the job. First beer during the encore in celebration I can maybe just about understand, but not the whole night. That's not safe. Sound desks are straight edge. Don't drink and op kids.
