HOW TO NAME A ROLEPLAY CHARACTER:
tldr; do your research when naming your characters. It’s not hard to be respectful. It’s actually really fucking easy.
Look at the faceclaim. What’s their ethnicity? If they’re white, there last name could be German, Italian, Irish, Spanish, Polish, Russian, English, French, etc. Basically their last name can be from any European country. White people are white.
Dylan O’Brien’s ethnicity is Irish, English, Italian and Spanish. Basically, he’s a white man. His last name can be any white surname. His surname is very unlikely to be from any other ethnicity, unless he changed his name through marriage.
If they’re not white, you have to dig a little deeper. If someone is Chinese, they can’t just have any last name, unless they changed their name for personal reasons, such as marriage. They also can’t have a Japanese last name, or any other Asian ethnic last name. It should be Chinese.
Arden Cho is Korean. Her surname can only be Korean unless she changed her name through marriage or another personal reason. She cannot have a Chinese surname or Japanese surname or any other surname other than Korean.
It gets a bit more tricky if people aren’t just one ethnicity. If people are biracial or multiracial, their surname could be from anyone of those ethnicities.
Emeraude Toubia is Lebanese and Mexican. Her surname could be either Lebanese (often Arabic surnames) or Spanish.
First names are easy. They can be literally anything you want. It shows more about who the parents are than the character themselves. If they’re more traditional, they may keep their ancestry in mind when naming their children, but they don’t necessarily have to.
