I could hear the vampires moving through the trees. They would be here soon. We needed to go. Elliot was sat on the couch with his head in his hands. Adeline was rubbing circles on his back in a soothing manner. I canât believe sheâs comforting him right now. This is all his fault.
âBo, youâre going to create a hole in the floor. Can you stop pacing?â I glared at Amaya, but continued pacing. She scowled at me, âIs your pacing helping with a plan?â
âNo it isnât. I canât get passed how we got in this situation in the first place.â I turned my glare to Elliot. âHow on Earth did you make this situation worse than it already was?!â I knew how. He didnât have to tell me again. Some random guy - who low and behold turned out to work for the vampires hunting us down - had got him to talk about his girlfriend, and Elliot was more than happy to show him a picture of Adeline.The one person in this whole group they know to be connected with me, and he starts waving her picture around.
âItâs helping me,â Solstice interjected. She moved away from the back window, and came to stand by me. âThe vampires are about ten miles away from the back of the cabin. Isabeau and I will stand guard while the rest of you head to the cars. Amaya and Aspen I want you to drive. Stop when you get to the stop sign down the road and be ready to get into the passenger seat. Weâll have caught up by then, and will drive from there.â
âWhy do you two need to drive?â Iâve driven Amayaâs âbabyâ several times, yet sheâs still so protective over the metal box. At least Iâm possessive over actual people.
âVampires can run sixty miles per hour, and I donât trust you behind the wheel of a car going faster than that. Youâre reflexes are too sluggish. Thatâs the plan. Go now. We donât have much time.â  That kicked everyone into action. Adeline pulled Elliotâs worthless form from the couch while Nanami grabbed their bags. Aspen and Amaya grabbed the keys and their bags, and started out the front door.
âNanami,â I called before she made it out. She whirled around. She was expecting me to ask her to stay. âDo not come back for me. If weâre not there five minutes after you stop, tell the girls to leave. Do not come back here. Promise me you wonât.â
âI⌠I canât just leave you.â
âYou have to. Promise me you wonât risk coming back.â We were running out of time. I could hear them getting closer.
Nanami nodded, letting a few tears escape. âI promise.â Then she was gone. I heard the girls peel out of the drive way, just as our company arrived. Two juggernaut-esque vampires busted through the back door, already growling at us. How rude.
