what is here was dangerous and repulsive to us

it’s a terrible waste, really–a perfectly good island paradise just waiting across the horizon for me, what’s one teensy nuclear meltdown far before i was a twinkle in my mother’s eye?

sure, the swamp to the northwest glows purple as the giant catfish tear through its depths, and yes, perhaps it is a touch difficult to sleep at night with the glow of the radioactive mushrooms burning a searing toxic hole through my windows. but we love the miasma’s glint on a starry night, covering us like a noxious little blanket. we love the way the earth seems to pulse.
